Romney a Confirmed Speaker at Maine Convention

Attention Maine Mittheads: If you are anywhere near Augusta, make sure your video camera’s batteries are charged and head on over to the Maine Republican Convention to see the Republican Party’s new rock star, Mitt Romney.

~~John Cronin~~

Mitt Romney – who took 52% of the vote at Maine’s Republican primary in February – will speak at the banquet the first night of the convention, said Maine Republican Committee Administrative Assistant Michelle Dale. She said Romney is a confirmed speaker, but said that could change. She also said she does not know the topic of his address. Cal Thomas will also be speaking at the state convention on Saturday.

If you go …

The Maine state convention will take place Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3. It will be held at the Augusta Civic Center (100 Civic Center Drive, Augusta, ME 04330). Friday’s events will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will end with the presidential banquet featuring Mitt Romney by 9:30 p.m. Saturday’s events will begin 8:30 a.m. and will end by 5:30 p.m.

A state committee meeting and dinner to kick off the Republican state convention will be held Thursday, May 1, from 6 to 9 p.m., also in the Augusta Civic Center.

  9. Paulee&Mike Says:

Woweeeeeeee! Oh my, what a wonderful experience! Mitt came into the room and everyone stood up and cheered, whistled, you name it!! So much excitement!!!!!
We all just kept shouting and standing, then one of ths delegates at our table said,
Paulee he is greeting people, go!!!! And away I went. Right to the front of everyone.
Governor Romney, I said, I have well wishes from all over the country, and I promised
I’d deliver these to you. Read them when you can, we all love and respect you and all that you are doing. His reply, as he held my hand and said, Thank you all very much.
His hands were as warm as toast, he wasn’t even nervous. There were at least 2,400
people there. He’s so together, this is is calling, I just know it!!!!! He was funny, sincere, informative, great advacate for Mccain, he was great. He told several jokes.
He’s so relaxed, and very entertaining. Ladies, he is even nicer looking in person.
He is truly blessed. I don’t think this country has ever had a role model for President
so well rounded. The comments throughout the evening were what a shame!!!!!
How did this happen???? Mitt said, humbly I lost as you all know, lots of sighs. We must now rally behind Mccain. He did an excellant job for Mccain. Lots of other comments and questions all evening, do you think he’ll be vp kept being discussed
mostly. I’m trying to make sense, it has been a long day. WE have some good pictures.
    I’ll get those out tomorrow.
John Cronin, Please send me your e-mail address tomorrow, I have a professional
photo relative that was taking pictures. I’ll speak with him tomorrow, he assures me
he will forward pictures as well.
The delegates said when I came back to my seat after presenting Mitt with our notes. Paulee. I got to hand it to you, you have a set of kahunnas!!!! Took me by surprise,
my reply was, I was on a Mission! Everything happened so fast, I did grab my husbands hand and brought him to meet Mitt, he shook Mike’s hand very warmly and in his charming voice said, so happy to meet you Mike, I mentioned how delighted we were to meet Tag and Little Joe, he smiled and said I think you all voted for me because you all liked them so much!!!! It was obvious we Mainer’s love him more now
than we did during the caucus. He is special. Everyone absolutely were awestruck!!
Oylmpia Snow was even impressed. She got her eyes full. He was statesman-like
to a T!!!!!!!! Animated, expressive, dynamic and folks so very Presidential.
Sorry for any errors, I just couldn’t go to bed without sharing. I will write more tomorrow. It’s late. Sleep well. My only regret was we didn’t get a picture of Mike Mitt
and I . It’s okay, we have that one in our memory forever. It was a short, full packed,
and I’ll cherish this event always.God Bless and goodnight. The news is playing Mitt
up as Mainer’s favorite during caucus and even more respected after this evening’s
    speech!!!!!!Tomorrow

  10. KKSM Says:

Paulee! Woo Hoo!!!! Reading your post was just like being there! I am so happy for you to get to have the experience that you had tonight!!!!!!!!! It sounds so wonderful and so much fun! I cannot wait to see your pictures. I just cannot wait. He sounded in great form and you made ME say, “what happened? what did America do and why are they so foolish????” I get upset all over again, but you made me so happy to read your great experience. And, THANKS FOR YOUR COURAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That’s how I will say it. You are courageous! thank you, thank you Paulee and MIke! What kind friends you are. Thanks for taking our “love notes” with you!

I am so happy for you! KKSM

  11. John Cronin Says:

    Paulee and Mike,

What a great event you were privileged to witness. Everyone is thrilled for you. It sounds like Mitt was greeted like the rock star he is becoming in the Party.

Man, this is the kind of buzz this party needs. Congratulations to all who attended. Nothing catches the party brass’ attention like a politician who can fill up a big room.

Can’t wait to hear the rest of the story.

  12. Crystal F Says:

There is a short video of tonight:

  13. Crystal F Says:

Please, also everyone, please don’t forget to vote for Romney on the VPStakes on GOPNation:
    http://gopnation.com/wordpress/?page_id=357
Huckabee is running away with it because we haven’t gotten over there to vote yet.

  14. Paulee&Mike Says:

Left a response at Well wishes for Ann & Mitt. You are so very welcomed, I was like a school girl, full of overwelmning excitment. My husband said, You did it Paulee, I’m so proud of you. I said, I could not let my new found friends down. We are working on our pictures, my grandson has SAT’s today. He’ll be by later, stay with me.
    Coming soon.

  15. Paulee&Mike Says:

Chystal F. Well, kudos to you. That’s what I watched last pm as i typed my notes.
Everyone be sure to go down below and click on more video under Romney’s picture, there you have it!!!!!!!Enjoy!!!!!!!!
Friends, that poll is totally loaded with Huck people. I have to say, he’s not being mentioned in any areas. Last I saw 40 to 1. I’ll take Mitt’s odds, or we’ll wait til 2012!
Trust me, he is worth waiting for. Mitt’s our man!!!! Let’s try to see the rapport
between the three of them when they get together. How big of a man is Huck????
    We’ll See.
KKSM: I’m not going to the gopnation poll site to talk about Mitt last evening, they
are hateful, they will just rain on our parade. We don’t need that!!!!!!!!!!!
Agree??????? Have a wonderful day, all

  16. KKSM Says:

    Crystal,

I think pretty much all of us HAVE gone over there. I think they have the Huckabee people just so well organized or THEY ARE ALL CLEANING THEIR COOKIES AND GOING BACK! Is that a possibility? I don’t understand what is happening with that poll… is is disconcerting though!!! I am not however daunted! Do you think JM even looks at that stuff? Do they (MR included) have the time??? Mitt handily won the first 2, so I don’t think this is a fair representation of what is going on…

Paulee, we are ALL proud of you! I for one am very happy for you as well! And we realize you have a life… I feel for your grandson though. Let him know I prayed for him, it is a grueling few hours….

    KKSM

  17. KKSM Says:

    Paulee,

I think we were typing at about the same time before. Yes, as you can see from my comment to Crysta, I totally agree with your assessment. I too haven’t been for days… a bit like casting a pearl before swine if you ask me….

I am slow I guess Paulee. Are you talking about going down below the video that Crystal recommended at this site http://www.wmtw.com/news/16129888/detail.html, or something on this site and page????

Crystal F., were you there too last night???

Will, we are anxious to hear from you regarding last night as well… KKSM

  18. Paulee&Mike Says:

KKSM: That’s the site, I thought where it said most popular video, under Mitt’s picture,
more video there may be more to see. Maybe it’s duplication, I haven’t looked at it.
I don’t know if Will got in, I hope so. They oversold, if you were not a delegate and
didn’t have a ticket, you could not eat. It was tight because of Ron Paul people. They did not want another episode like Nevada.. Your not slow.

  19. Paulee&Mike Says:

Shoot! My head’s not connected this morning, I couldn’t get to sleep last night. Just too wound up. I put our notes in a nice folder. Titled ComMITTed to Romney. I had some red, white, and blue ribbon, tied bows, attached to make it look all American!
Seemed to fit occasion!!!! Got me to him!!!! Looked important. Small stategy to get to him!!!!!
They said nice things about Mitt on the news, I’m glad!!!!!

  20. KKSM Says:

I am so happy to read all of the detail you put into these posts! I love knowing how you dressed up the folder! This surely was one of the best times of your life…. life is good! I hope Will got in as he was so excited at the prospect. I have had times like that myself, I guess we all have.

Thanks again for all you share. As you get new details that you remember, don’t fret one bit about sharing; no matter how small it may seem to you…. KKSM

  21. 2thepoint Says:

    Paulee! Paulee! Paulee!

    You rock!

Many thanks for “mission accomplished” and your creative flair (red, white, blue ribbons) which aided in getting our “missives for Mitt” in his hands! Looking forward to your photos and any additional thoughts you post regarding the convention.

Will, hope you got in - let us know…

  22. 2thepoint Says:

    Crystal F,

Thanks for the short video link of Mitt’s speech. I posted a note on McCain’s website and included this link. Just to let John know the magnificent job Romney is doing on his (McCain’s) behalf…

For anyone who would like to do the same, here’s McCain’s contact link:

  23. Paulee&Mike Says:

These are the pictures from the Augusta, Maine Republican convention.

  24. Paulee&Mike Says:

Whoops! sorry, I forgot the link.

  25. 2thepoint Says:

    Great photos!

We know how foolish it is to elect a president on looks alone - Mitt possesses all the inner qualities of a great president - but, if ever a man looked like a president - he’s the guy!

I’m so glad you and Mike were there to absorb the thrilling “Mittmosphere!” By the way, did they serve dinner and could you see who sat at Romney’s table? You said that a lot of comments were concerning Mitt’s possibility at VP. Could you elaborate?

  26. Paulee&Mike Says:

So that I can explain. As I said it was very fast paced. People were blocking my husbands view so he didn’t capture the picture until after the folder went from Mitt to secret service person. The picture here is after making eye contact and telling him It was a pleasure to meet him and I guess as we shook hands, the exchange was so
pleasant, I guess I shook his hand and as he said Thanks so very much to everyone
I placed my other hand on top and patted as a gesture of respect I may be bold, but I was humbled, and honored at the same time.
Now, I will e-mail my relative and see if he can put his pictures on as well. My grandson did this for us, he’s 17. When he saw Mitt debate, he said, I’ll vote for him Nana. He instantly liked him. Okay, thanks KKSM for your prayers. Chad said, Ohhhhhh!
How nice of her. The lights in there were horrible for pictures , Enjoy

  27. KKSM Says:

Paulee, your pix are just lovely and so are you! Now, I know who I am talking to!!! Now I know who got to see Mitt and Ann!!!

What a treat for you! You must still be on cloud nine.

  28. Paulee&Mike Says:

.2thepoint Mitt came in, exchanged pleasantries, mingled with Senator Snowe and her husband, Jock Mcernan, and others, the chairman of the rep. comm. etc.he sat at their table briefly, then was up to speak. H e did his excellant speech, was given a LL BEAN
bag with lots of Maine goodies. He didn’t stay for the evening, he left right after his speech. This surprised us. We were hopeful we could talk with him alittle more. While
he was there it was very exciting, he has such a good mind, no stalling, or lapses
of memory. He was right on point. I also wrote Mccain, thanks for the e-mail address
Now, from what I’ve read in the newspaper articles he is denying any such vp interest,
on Mccains part. The talk came on the floor during cocktails and mingling, in the buffet
line, and general conversation. People still feel he would be better candidate, but could
settle for him as vp was much of the publics feeling.Of course at this point, we are all honoring Mitt’s lead and backing Mccain. We still have a long way to go, so much can happen. If he had stayed and eaten , I think we could have gotten more pictures, more conversation. He may have had another engagement, I’m not sure. He has been pretty busy. All and all it was a very successful evening. I’ll always remember.
Did you go over to the post messages for Ann and Mitt, I left a message there as well.
Also, Ann did not attend with him. That would have been so nice. Hey, this is a grind!
I understand, but hopefully she will read our messages. I hope this helps.

  29. 2thepoint Says:

Appreciate the additional details, Paulee. Thank you! Yes, I posted a note for Mitt and Ann - really enjoyed all the good comments everyone left for the Romneys.

After Utah, I wonder where Mitt will turn up next? It’s fast becoming “Where in the country is… Mitt Romney?!”

  30. Crystal F Says:

2thepoint: Great Idea about posting a comment to McCain!! I just did the same.
KKSM: No, I regret that I was not there the other night; I’m in CA, but I stayed up late watching the local websites hoping to find a write-up / video — I was very anxious to see how “our guy” did (not that I had any question that he would be GREAT!) :)

Sorry about bringing up the gopnation deal — you are all correct — it’s not like anyone who matters is really going to use that to make a decision, but I guess it is irritating to see some of those numbers (leads me to believe, like some of you, that something underhanded is going on - wouldn’t surprise me)

More important, though; THANKS PAULEE for your details - photos, work that went into making the notes special for Mitt - I’m sure he and Ann appreciated that!

Is there anyone here from NYC that is going to the Canterbury Medal Dinner to Honor Gov. Romney on Thursday??? I am anxiously awaiting video from that(!!)

  31. Crystal F Says:

2thepoint: Re: your question about the 2nd lapel pin that Mitt was wearing under his flag pin .. I wondered that too. Paulee, do you recall seeing it? I know, I’m sure that was not the focus of your meeting - just thought I’d ask. My feeling is that it is a McCain lapel pin - it looks an awful lot like one:
    http://store.johnmccain.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=LPR2357

  32. Paulee&Mike Says:

You know, I did see that pin and it did cross my mind. It was so hectic. Everyone just
flooded around him. I missed the boat on that one, again WE all thought he would
stay with us through dinner. That would have given us more opportunity to check
those lil details that we all want to know about, esp. me, I love knowing everything!!
I thought to myself, maybe that pin was to do with the Canterbury Dinner. NOT, as we
know that event is coming up, isn’t JOHN CRONIN doing a marvelous job on this site.
What would we do without this , Thanks again, John.
Crystal: Thanks so much all your efforts, appreciated.. Your probably right, Mccain pin!

  33. Paulee&Mike Says:

IF YOU ALL HAVEN’T RETURNED TO POST NOTES TO ANN AND MITT, I LEFT MORE
REPORTS FROM CONVENTION THERE. NOTE NO. 31

  34. Heather Says:

I went through crazy hoops to get into the reception before the speech. I am from NC and just happened to be in town on business. The reception was small and I am waiting for my pics of my conversation with the Governor. I was wearing my Mitt Romney pin on my lapel and he was thrilled about that. I let him know that we bloggers are still in action for him and in constant contact working for him. I let him know that we all had Birthday wishes for him on our blogs several weeks back. I told him all of our blogs are still going strong and that I received an interesting request of contact form a gal at Moms for McCain a couple of days ago. But I just got home and will contact her. The crowd was crazy for Mitt, but after spending a couple of minutes with him during the reception I was on on Mitt cloud nine and left right after his speech (which was so moving I cried). My friend at my table was interviewed (details on Moms4Mitt). One of the staffers also directed me to the press who caught me as I was leaving and she wanted to know if we are all still going and I gave and enthusiastic YES!! I will get the links out on the full story after I get the pics from Snowe’s Director of staff. He is loved in Maine and his speech was totally ProMcCain!!

  35. KKSM Says:

Good for you HEATHER!!! You are fantastic too, just like Paulee and Mike. Hooray for all of you. I really appreciated your comment. I am happy you got to go there. I am trying to track him and Bush here in Utah in a couple of weeks to see where I might be able to find them. I don’t know if I can or if I can afford it if I do. Life is just that way. I would love to at least find out some places they are going to be though… I am excited for that time to come so I can follow them (not literally, I am NOT a stalker!!!) and watch the media frenzy. He is pretty popular here in Utah as well. It will be fun…

  36. John Cronin Says:

Kudos to Heather for letting Gov. Romney know that the blogs are still active and that we are actively promoting MR for VP or for Prez in 2012.

This convention has generated more excitement on this blog that anything I have seen since Super Tuesday. Once again, congratulations to everyone who attended.

  37. donna cavender Says:

THE ROMNEYS ARE TOP CLASS. HE MUST BE THE VICE PRESIDENT NOMINEE. THERE IS NO OTHER THAT COMES CLOSE. FLORIDA WANTS ROMNEY.

  38. Paulee&Mike Says:

Heather I just found this message from you here. Great work, gotta do what you got to do. You got up there!!!!! That’s so great for you!!!!! Can’t wait to see your pictures.
I had to rush to get to him. We do love him in Maine. that was obvious , wasn’t it.?
just a great night, he left right after his speech. Emotions were running very high!
I think we just all feel we needed Mitt, right now! President 2008! It makes us see what we are going to miss for this country.Absolutely, no comparison to Mccain.
    Makes me sad, really sad!
