McCain and Huckabee: Together Again
http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2008/04/25/
mccain-and-huckabee-together-again/?mod=WSJBlog
Slouched in one of the two captain’s chairs, Huckabee used his time with the press to take a thinly veiled jab at another former opponent, Mitt Romney. “You know for me, the fortunate thing is I don’t have to go around and unsay anything I said during the campaign,” he said, earning another chuckle from McCain.
So, Pastor Huckabee didn’t have to “unsay” any thing he said during the campaign. Could that be because he didn’t have anything to say worth saying in the first place?
As for McCain, Huckabee added: “We had a very civil relationship. I thought it was significant that I felt like the two of us who ran, frankly the two most civil campaigns in the entire Republican primary ended up the last two on our feet.”
Pastor Huckabee, by the end of the primary campaign, you weren’t on your feet, you were on another area of your anatomy, the part we use when we are seated. I honestly don’t think a very distant second, when all the viable candidates except McCain had withdrawn from the race, qualifies as being “on your feet.”
Romney dropped out of the race on Feb. 7. Despite his slim chances, Huckabee held on until March 5, when McCain secured the nomination.
Huckabee “held on” until he got his Hollywood agent and was offered a book deal.

What professional attitudes. I’m not surprised at Huck’s comment, he is so hung up
about Mitt Romney, it is disgusting. However, Mitt’s out there doing a first rate job, stumpimg for Mccain, only for those two to make Mitt laughing stock. That’s totally insulting and ignorant. I’m telling you, they have no class!!!!!!!!!!! Crap, my blood is boiling again. Huck is so full of himself it’s sickening. If this is how Mccain shows his appreciation, I guess I’d beware. Mitt is doing the right thing, and I hope his rewards
will come.Jealousy is such a sin!!!!! He calls himself a preacher. Sorry, I still have no use for Huck!!!!!! Mccain, well my verdict is still out, but I’m watching. My Dad always
told me, you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.
April 27th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
I’m sorry, but I can’t really support McCain after this. Even if Romney did endorse him, I’m not going to support him. Nothing short of putting Romney on the ticket will convince me otherwise at this point.
April 27th, 2008 at 6:43 pm
McCain is a very jealous man. It was reported that he hates Romney. McCain has always spoken so fondly of Huckabee. The reason McCain likes Huckabee is Huckabee makes McCain look competent. They deserve each other.
I guess I some what believe McCain would be a better choice than Obama but I think Romney would get the nomination in 2012 if Obama is elected in 08. Of course, I still don’t know if Romney will ever overcome the bigotry that he faced in 08 but it has been very comforting to see the GOP rally around Romney for VP.
McCain is unpredictable. He could still put Romney on the ticket but if he does not I do not feel inclined to support the republican ticket. I believe the republicans need to loose this year to win in 2012.
April 27th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
Well, well, isn’t this disgusting???
The reason he doesn’t have to “unsay” anything is that he lacks the necessary humility to recognize his own wrong doing!!! And for that matter, it is possible that McCain is in the same boat! What a blasted mess!
I’m just going to pray for Mitt and America and let the chips fall where they may…. What a foolish bunch of people. Why is it that all the wrong people get to be in charge??? None of these people should be in charge of toilet cleaning let alone things that affect a whole nation!
nauseating…
April 27th, 2008 at 7:02 pm
Me again, what are we going to do? Do you realize that there is no one out there to vote for???? What is going to happen to America? No scenaraio is very pretty… none.
You don’t need me to out line the probabilities for you. the dems are disastrous. McCain is marginally dem and liberal. If he picks Huck, I won’t be able to watch the news for 4 years unless it is implision time. The only chance I see is if by some chance (and goading and pushing by GOP, Rove etc), McCain picks Romney, but as I have said before does that put Romney in the middle of 4 years with one foot in hell trying to support a goof ball and the other foot on the banana peel trying to undo everything… none of it is a pretty picture….
Massive write in anyone???
April 27th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
Sigh,
Just when I was almost brainwashed into supporting McCain, he reminds me what a jerk he can be.
I hope this is just a quick courtesy call, and he moves on and distances himself quickly.
April 27th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
It’s hard to do what you should do for the good of the country when the choices are so disgusting. We had a chance to nominate an ethical politician and blew it. Now look where we have put ourselves.
Actually I don’t blame any of the people here. This is a cooling off place for those of us who are angry with the masses who voted without considering the consequences. Perhaps they will in the near future. Hope the lesson is learned for the next time around.
Mitt still controls my vote for this one. Best of luck to us all. - P

Everyone:
Most of you probably know a lot about President Reagan, so this comment is not directed at you. I am writing this more for our new readers and also those who are too young to have experienced it first hand.
Reagan campaigned hard for the Republican nomination in 1976. He was not a favorite of the Republican establishment and so the nod went to the feckless Gerald Ford. Very decent man, but clueless about how to function successfully in the Presidency. Ford served out Nixon’s term after he resigned the office in the wake of the Watergate scandal. In 1976 Ford ran against a man who turned out to be one of the worst Presidents this country has ever endured, the equally feckless Jimmy Carter.
Carter won in 1976 and Gerald Ford retired from politics and began a second career in business, serving on the Boards of several Fortune 500 companies.
Carter began his term with high expectations from the MSM, but by the time the country has suffered through 20% interest rates and 12% inflation, 7 different economic policies and a hostage crisis that lasted well over a year, voters were in a mood to shop around for a new President.
Ronald Reagan spent the years between 1976 and 1980 “working in the Republican vineyard” making speeches, helping elect Republicans to statewide and national offices, raising money and collecting political IOU’s from politicians across the country.
EXACTLY WHAT GOV. ROMNEY IS DOING RIGHT NOW!! Many people had their doubts whether the country would make it through Carter’s bumbling administration, but we did.
I hope McCain wins the election. He has some good points and the two alternatives are so wrong in their ideas about the role of government, the military and tax policy that to vote for one of them or to “sit out the election” would endanger the country.
I used the example of the Carter administration to illustrate that, even if Obama (shudder) or Hillary (shudder) should win, I believe we have the Reagan precedent to help keep our eyes on the prize, a Romney presidency in 2012.
If McCain wins and then takes a hard left turn once he is safely ensconced in office, it is up to us and Congress to do our best to limit the damage and then hopefully pick up conservative Republican seats in 2008 and extend the gains in 2012 so that a newly elected President Romney has the votes to pass his agenda.
Although it may look pretty grim at the moment, keep the faith. We”ll get our turn in 2012. Gov. Romney will have name recognition that will be off the charts in 2012, obviously a huge difference from what he had to overcome in the early months of 2007 and he will have had time to build up his “street creds” with pro lifers and hard right wing conservatives who thought his positions on a couple of hot button issues had been too recently acquired.
Hopefully those Evangelicals who voted for Huckabee will realize the extent of the damage they caused by their support of the shallow and profoundly unqualified Pastor Mike and will rally to MR, the man who best represents their core values.
Between now and then, let’s stay involved in the process, learn all we can about the art and science of politics and be ready to help elect Romney after this current cast of characters have left the stage.
April 27th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
John Cronin- History has been that dems take the White House every 2-3 years so if McCain wins in 08 and our countries economy etc tends downward it would be that much harder for Romney to take the White House in 2012. I agree that it would be bad for America but it may be what we need to wake voters up. Then maybe they would welcome a man like Romney, religion and all to set America on track and get Washington working. FEEDBACK! I’m sure that my thoughts are not going to be popular but it might be the only way. PAIN BEFORE GAIN!
April 27th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
After thought- We should be anxiously engaged doing all that we can to get public officials elected that will fight for the values we hold dear. So, even if I do not like JM politics I may need to swallow that bitter pill and pull the lever for McCain. Yes KKSM it is nauseating.
April 27th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
I’ll echo John and Mit10’s comments. As a duly elected precinct delegate in a state that overwhelmingly chose Governor Romney, we stacked the slate of delegates and I’ve moved my way up to the state convention. Having seen this process all the way through this year, I and those like me will be properly “schooled” for the next time around. I encourage you all to continue to participate in the electoral process so you can learn the “insider tricks” for 2012.
Also, as Governor Romney is doing, keep working hard to elect local, state and national representatives that will work for our agenda and stem the mayhem that the dems would unleash if unchecked. We’ve lost the battle for the presidency, but there are other candidates worthy of our support.
April 27th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
I am inclined to sit back and wait for Mitt to run again. McCain is a big loser and I will enjoy watching him go down — especially after witnessing this little exchange between him and Huckabee. McCain is trying to have it both ways and he mocks Romney as Romney campaigns for him. Disgusting!
April 27th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
Huckabee is not only a bigot, he is a fool - he criticizes Gov. Romney and he has flip flopped all over the place - so arrogant and self centered - his faith must not be a strong as he pretends it to be - doesn’t he know GOD is watching his every word and move? He surely canoot be proud of the “pastor” in these moments
April 27th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
Leslie MJ and the Huck claim Romney ran a negative campaign but every chance the Huck gets he is attacking Romney. These two are fueled by hate. Romney is trying to do the right thing for the party and a for our American service men and women. So, he is working hard to get MJ elected. If McCain puts Huck as his VP I could not vote for McCain. Huck and McCain are disgusting. I have heard evangelicals say that Huck was a poor representation of their faith.
April 27th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
I have noticed a lot of old posters returning to vent their feelings about the Huckster. Yes he has rocked our world and turned it upside down and boy do I feel bitter. I hope he will disappear by 2012. I can only hope that his supporters will begin to see how they have been deceived.
April 27th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
Mit 10: nothing can turn us old posters out like the sight of McCain and Huckabee together! Certainly nothing more infuriating. McCain is not going to woo Romney supporters cavorting around with Huckabee. Too bad he’s not smart enough to realize that.
April 27th, 2008 at 10:54 pm
I’m amazed…not at how much of an idiot Huckabee is, because I’ve known that for months now, but at how obsessed he is with Romney. He simply cannot let it go. His obsession must include a deep seated jealousy for what Romney has materially and also in talent and ability. There is no way Huck would make it in business because you have to back up what you say if you want to exist long in the business world. That’s why he’s done well as a preacher and a politician–if you can say things well enough to fool the masses (Obama included here), that’s all you need to make a name for yourself. Ironically, Huckabee didn’t even fool the masses, just a majority of the suckers (evangelicals) in Iowa. Come to think of it, Iowa also put Obama firmly on his feet in this election. Thanks for helping to royally screw up this election Iowa!
April 27th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
Oh yeah, and I will still be writing in Mitt Romney on election day. McCain won’t be getting any cash or votes from me.
Sorry John Cronin, I don’t think many of the evangelicals who voted for Huckabee will ever realize their mistake because they remain blinded by the craftiness of men like slick Mike.
April 27th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
Great comments, all.
What a cozy little photo op; the tag-team duo of McCain/ Huckabee on McCain’s bus last Friday. Too immature and back-stabbling for words… After John Cronin’s well-written coments, here’s all I can add for now:
The photo of THOSE TWO brings to mind:
Moe and Curly!!!
the TWO nasty crows on Disney’s “Dumbo”
Dr. Doom and The Chameleon (”Spiderman”)
Hanibal Lecter and Ernest T. Bass (”The Andy Griffith Show”)
Draco Malfoy and Dudley Dursley (”Harry Potter”)
Freddy Kruger and Clem Cadiddlehopper (long ago “Red Skelton Show”)
Iago (Shakespeare’s “Othello”) and Gaston (Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast”)
Simon Cowell (”Ameroican Idol”) and Newman (”Seinfeld”)
Mr. Spacely (”The Jetsons”) and Boris Badenov (Rocky and Bullwinkle’s “Fractured Fairytales”)
Darth Vader and Jabba the Hutt
If others come to mind, please share - it’s therapy for the politically frustrated.
Mitt Romney, just keep on keepin’ on. Thousands and thousands of Americans stand with you and believe in your political future! Your rising star continues to illuminate brighter and brighter with each passing moment…
April 27th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
Your judged by the company you keep. If I were Mitt (and I’m not as good a person as he is) I would call JM and ask “What was THAT about? Do you see huck out doing your bidding? And THIS is how you reward loyality? Campaign back in action, and I’ll see you at convention! Enjoy your fried squirrel.”
April 27th, 2008 at 11:53 pm
OK, I have a question! First, let me apologize in advance if I offend anyone with my question, I am truly sorry, but I really need an answer to this as it has bothered me for months.
We all know here in the Salt Lake Valley that Huckabee came here as the keynote speaker with the Southern Baptist Convention. I guess in his remarks (from what I heard) he blasted a bunch of reasons why members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are not Christians and why we are all going to go to hell. At the same time, the Latter-day Saints received (courtesy of this convention) fliers and CDs on our doors telling us that we are a cult and we will go to hell etc.
Now for my question: I have been told that Huckabee was responsible for the pamphlet and all the misinformation in it, that he actually penned it.
Does anyone know if that is true? That is my question. I have no documentation for this, but those that say it are very convincing. Does anyone know the truth of this matter?
As for a pairing, the Hunchback and Esmerelda come to mind for some reason…
Al and Peg Bundy from that old show Married with Children… I never really watched that show, but I saw it once and all they did was belittle and hate some nice neighbors…
Fred and Ethel Mertz
Eddie Haskell and Lumpy
Lavern and Shirley (you decide which is which)
Archie and Jughead
Archie Bunker and Edith
Mighty Mouse and Underdog
Tom T. Terrific and Crabby Appleton
Billy Goat Gruff and the Troll under the Bridge~
That was fun and quite cathartic!
I hate it when people are prejudice and unkind…. I hate it when people belittle others…. I am going to write a letter to McCain and tell him he may have lost my vote and A LOT of people I know are pretty disgusted at his behaviour…. might.. we’ll see…
April 28th, 2008 at 12:05 am
Huckabee just can’t seem to overcome the temptation to cut Mitt down every chance he gets. The contrast between them is striking and it’s so obvious which is the better man. One working hard to try & unify the party and the other acting like we’re still back in Iowa, sucking up to McCain and talking out of both sides of his mouth! I think Mitt should say thanks, but no thanks to VP and spend the next 4 years working hard for the Rep party. Romney 2012!!!
April 28th, 2008 at 12:16 am
Oh how disappointing it was to pop in here and see that post about Mccain/Huck. ICK!! John McCain says what the person he is currently campaigning with wants to hear. He’s too-faced and a user.
I’m not surprised at all that Huckabee had to throw that jab in about Romney but it’s lower than low that McCain giggled about it. What a disrespectful person… doing this after Romney has vowed to try and earn $15 million for McCain’s campaign.
I just don’t know who to vote for this year. It’s very sad and frustrating to me. I am still hoping for a M&M ticket and will surely vote for that but if McCain chooses the Huck as his VP, then I don’t think I will be able to vote for McCain. *SIGH* Who then? I will either not vote at all or just write in Mitt Romney’s name, I guess.
I must say I do not want Obama or Clinton either. Ugh…
April 28th, 2008 at 1:00 am
KKSM- Thanks for sharing your idea to write to McCain. Loved it. So I just did. I am tired of venting my frustrations about Huckabee to the virtual choir. I just sent this email to the McCain campaign.
“Please tell Senator McCain how unhelpful to his campaign it is to stand by the former candidate Huckabee while he spouts sanctimonius insults about his former rival, Mitt Romney. Romney’s support means a great deal to Mr. McCain and if he wants to keep it, he must ask Huckabee to desist from the insults of a great American, Gov. Mitt Romney. I am frankly sick of Huckabee’s sanctimony and the further McCain distances himself from him, the closer he gets to my vote. Romney has done more to support McCain, fund raise for him, even requesting his delegates move to the McCain column than what Huckabee has done. Palling around with Huckabee while the Arkansan continues to insult Romney, and while his supporters continue to campaign against the Massachusetts governor may result in the loss of Romney’s support. Frankly, Romney is a better man than I to have ignored Huckabee’s snide comments. I have had about enough of it. Its time for them to stop. They must stop if McCain wants party unity.”
April 28th, 2008 at 1:28 am
Here is my version of the letter:
Dear Senator McCain,
I am so looking forward to a McCain/Huckabee ticket for November 2008. It will make my decision to not vote for you soooo much easier. You see, if you had put Mitt Romney on the ticket, I would have felt obligated to vote for you. But now I am free to cast my vote elsewhere.
Thank you again for making my decision so easy. And hopefully we will never have to hear from you or that horrible preacher after November 2008 ever again.
Adios!
April 28th, 2008 at 9:42 am
Mr. McCain,
I was willing to vote for you. But your recent chuckling with Huckabee at the expense of a great American, who has been very loyal to you since suspending his campaign, is two faced and wrong. You’ve lost my vote. The ONLY way to retreive it is to
1. Publicly apologize to Mitt AND to his supporters who were coming on board for you.
2. Hold Huckabee to the same standards you are holding the NC GOP. It does not matter what party the candidate is from. You should not allow this man to define who Mitt is. It is obvious that Mitt is the better man than Huckabee could EVER be in 3 lifetimes.
I hope you enjoy retirement. As that’s exactly where you’ll be after this election is over. With the court jester at your side, you lose.
Romney 2012.
April 28th, 2008 at 10:47 am
This is interesting: McCain is realizing that McCain-Finegold was not all that great, and has found a way to get around the maximum limit of donations made durring a primary.
http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2008/04/19/new-mccain-fund-gets-around-donation-limits/ Do as I say, not as I do ??
April 28th, 2008 at 11:50 am
Hey, how about that Nevada GOP convention hijacked by the Ron Paulites? There are probably a lot more people around this country dissatisfied with McCain than we suspect.
http://www.lvrj.com/news/18312799.html
Wouldn’t it be something if this kind of thing gained momentum around the nation up to a convention where Romney steps in help clear things up and secures the nomination? I guess it would help if McCain’s well disguised (for some) dementia to become public knowledge to complete the deal.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
I am enjoying all the comments and I will contact McCain. Thanks!
April 28th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Mit 10, “We should be anxiously engaged doing all that we can to get public officials elected that will fight for the values we hold dear. So, even if I do not like JM politics I may need to swallow that bitter pill and pull the lever for McCain.”
I see some wisdom here… I think I grasped the big picture just now… We may still want McCain to be the president even if we don’t like him, label him a liberal, but what Romney said he is doing and what we should be doing is focusing on “getting REPUBLICANS elected”, not just McCain, but also McCain, we not only can support Romney to VP, the Republicans need to take back congress. Even if McCain is liberal, he needs to be pressured by Concervative-Republicans to make sure McCain does his job.
April 28th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
Dear Mr. McCain.
I was getting pretty close to liking you and being able to vote for you, but after seeing you with Mike Huckabee and watching you chuckle at his (possibly) veiled jab at Mitt Romney, I am not so sure. You too are the talk of the town right now and I am afraid you may have lost some support with many true conservatives in this instance. Many people are not happy that you seemed to perhaps be enjoying a good laugh at a great American’s expense. I do not care for the smarminess of Mr. Huckabee. The fact the he thinks he has nothing to “unsay” says volumes about him.
1. He did’t say much… where does he stand on anything? or 2. He lacks the necessary humility to recognize the negativity that he did indulge in. I think it is some of both.
You need to realize that Mitt Romney is quite capable of accepting his negatives and being responsible for them. He is also capable of repenting for them and changing what needs to be changed. He is humble and good. Huckabee was wrong or lying when he said that the two of you ran the least negative campaign. That is just not true and millions of Americans know it. I think if you are smart, you will make a public statement saying you are sorry for any negativity you indulged in, that you are regretful for any “dirty tricks” you may have been a part of. Millions would see that as a strength and would respect you for it. Me personally? I would love to see you apologize to Mitt Romney for Virginia and Florida..
Be aware too that many many people on the net comment boards and blogs disrespect the tricks played there. Don’t burn your base. I would like to see the WH stay in republican hands, but I want us to earn it. It seems that is up to you now. Please be cautious. I want to like you, I want to contribute to you and help you win. I am not able to do that with just any running mate. Please be selective. Personally, I would love to see you teamed up with Mitt Romney, he is conservative and good and he has been a true friend to you. He has fund raised for you, stumped for you and done exactly what he said he would do. I do not believe him to be a hypocrit. Please be selective and prayerful in this huge matter! Millions are counting on you to make a good decision… Thank You!
April 28th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
KKSM: Well, congrats, very well said. Maybe this is how we go, everyone writting as you did, with cc to the RNC. Mccain can just blow us off, but copies to the RNC will
perhaps make an impact, you think????? I bet you feel better. Again, nice job way to go!!!!!!!!!
Talk later, Paulee
April 28th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
Hi again Paulee
I din’t think of that, but I will forward a copy to the rnc and cpac. I figure at this point, what have we to lose and I like being honest. I know by your reactions that you feel pretty much the same way. I have to leave right now to buy my son a birthday pie at Marie Callenders. Later, though, I will do that, thanx for the heads up!!!!
KKSM
April 28th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Jon- Yes it is Iowa’s fault we are in this mess.
This is what I sent to John McCain. Any other ideas on where we could complain about their juvenile behavior. I really have to wonder if McCain is “OLD” enough for this job.
“Your little chuckle at Hucks jab at Mitt Romney this week has reminded me how immature and unprofessional you and the Huckster are. You and Huck played dirty tricks in Florida so stop trying to act like you only travel on the HIGH ROAD. We all know about the back allies you two are willing to travel down if it will get you the power you so crave. YOU LIED AND MISREPRESENTED ROMNEY’S POSITION ON WAR TIMETABLES. And after all the dirty tricks in Florida Romney has taken the HIGH ROAD and is working to get you in the White House. And you still want to hate him. Shame on you.”
April 28th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
Mitt 10:
I like your letter. To the point and well said. Good for you! I don’t know what will happen here. Mitt is a really good man and I really pray for him to come out smelling like a rose and not the cess pool that could come because of association….
Snottiness aside, I know America needs Mitt and not Mr. Huckabee. Huck and Mc together will not win the election (number one) and would make a big mess of everything…. Hum, I thought I had put my snottiness aside, I guess I didn’t after all, because that was pretty snotty! KKSM
April 28th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
KKSM Thanks! This is a safe place to vent your frustration. I agree. I think Huckabee would be the worst choice possible. I think the GOP would not like that choice at all.
I feel happy that Rove, the Bushes and Andy Card have been pushing for Romney for VP. They recognize him as a party asset. Huckabee is not getting that support and I think that speaks volumes.
McCain seems to do the opposite of what the party wants so maybe he will pick Huckabee to spite them. Who knows? If that happens I do not plan on voting for JM and I believe Utah will turn blue for the first time.
Either way, Mitt Romney has impressed the GOP and many conservatives and that will help him in 2012.
It is so nice to have a place to share my frustration about this election and I am grateful to all of you for supporting Mitt Romney.
April 28th, 2008 at 11:35 pm
I predict that if Huck is picked, the ENTIRE west and North is lost - perhaps forever. Please go to GOP Nation and vote for Mitt. Tell all your friends to do it too. Huck has the chruches voting for him. Now we need to get REAL people, with REAL thoughts on to it.
April 29th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
Here’s a good read from the “Rocky Mountain Collegian” by Joseph Haynie 4/25/08 (Be sure to read the 2nd page and comments.):
“A recent Associated Press-Yahoo News poll indicated that it is in John McCain’s best interest to select Mitt Romney as his vice-president.
According to this poll, 67 percent of voters nation-wide say the ECONOMY is an extremely important issue. Following the economy in terms of importance are high gas prices, the crumbling housing market and, surprisingly, the Iraq war, which only 48 percent of voters deem as an extremely important issue.
For a man who has admitted that economics is not his strongest suit, it would be wise to get someone on board who is fluent in the subject and has ample private sector experience to bring to the table…”

Romney! Romney! Romney!
April 29th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Yes, but how will Huckabee UNDUE all of those unnecessary pardons for criminals?
Huckabee may be the most ridiculous politician this election cycle.
April 29th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
It is sad that I feel very much that McCain pick Huckabee as his VEEP only so I can absolutely be sure NOT to vote for him. I’m still strongly against McCain, and I have pledged not to vote for him. However, there still is this quiet voice, a very small still voice inside telling me, “what if….” I know we don’t want Obama nor Hillary in the White House, but I do not think McCain is any good for anything but Iraqi War. He is good for nothing else — period. Of course, I will vote for McCain only if he picks someone like Mitt, but not else. Anyway, to shut up this small feeling of wondering if I really do have the choice, he can do it by picking Huckabee!
April 30th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
SGS I feel the same way. Other conservatives are always saying that we should vote for McCain because he will give us conservative judges. That may be another reason to support him. BUT I COULD NEVER SUPPORT HUCK AS VP.
April 30th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
Mit10, unfortunately, I have been following this race closely for over a year, and I have not heard much from McCain on the judges he would appoint. He did say Roberts and such are good judges, but there is no clear indication that he will appoint judges like them. After finding nothing solid at McCain’s site, I have asked at a few political sites for McCain’s exact words, but no one was able to supply it. There are many, like you, who claims McCain will appoint conservative judges; everyone but McCain himself. To be frank, even Rudy have gone further than McCain on what kind of judges he would appoint. To make this even worse, I have seen some hints that McCain thinks our constitution is outdated! He thinks we need to update it. He does not openly declare like Obama and Hillary that it is a breathing document, but the hints are there. For example, he has remarked quite a few times how great Justice Ginsburg was. No, I am not convienced McCain will be good for our Supreme Court. And this is what I believe, until you could supply the exact quotation and source that McCain will appoint judges like Roberts and Alito.

I have no such information and I for one do not feel swayed by the argument that he will appoint conservatives to the bench but I have heard Sean Hannity make that point and so I assume that Sean Hannity has heard MJ promise to appoint conservatives.
I do not trust McCain but I fear Obama/Hillary. I go back and forth all the time. After reading your comment it makes me not want to support McCain but what other option do I have. Romney on the ticket would make the decision a lot easier.
