Huckabee Writing Book On His Failed Presidential Bid

I can’t wait to run out and buy Pastor Mike’s new book. Here’s a title suggestion: “How I Managed to Manipulate Evangelicals into Wasting Their Votes on Me” Subtitle: “And in the Process Set Myself Up With A Really Cool Hollywood Agent and Book Deal.”

~~John Cronin~~

By ANDREW DeMILLO, Associated Press Writer Thu Apr 24, 12:10 PM ET

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Two weeks after the next president is elected, Mike Huckabee will publish a book sharing details on his failed bid for the White House and offering his vision for remodeling the conservative movement.

Sentinel, a conservative imprint of Penguin Group (USA), said Wednesday it will publish the former Arkansas governor and one-time Republican presidential hopeful’s next book, to be released Nov. 18.

The book, not yet titled, will offer an insider’s view of Huckabee’s campaign and also offer his vision for the future, publishers said Wednesday.

Same old thing. Mike Huckabee is all about Mike Huckabee. He never passes up any opportunity to make a buck. And really, who is going to rush out and get this book except for his few die hard supporters who are still expecting him to win the general election in 2008. I don’t think they received the memo that Huckabee’s campaign is over. Huckabee thinks he is all that and a bag of chips too. I am an evangelical christian and wish the minor few evangelicals who worship this man would stop stoking his fires and feeding into his ego. I know a slick talking tele-evangelist when I see one. And he is one. He thinks people are stupid and can’t see through his holier than though attitude while he bashes Mitt Romney. He never passes up a chance to put him down. Only his chosen few don’t pick up on it and if they do they ignore it because he is the “chosen one” in their eyes. Blah!!!!!

    Huckabee’s pep rally
We told you earlier that some of John McCain’s troops weren’t happy to learn that Mike Huckabee had a Promote Mike Huckabee rally at the Capital Hotel less than a week in advance of McCain’s visit to Arkansas tomorrow. This is the meeting first reported by columnist David Sanders.

Why unhappy? Because many of the remarks at the meeting were built on a generally held assumption among many present that McCain would be beaten this fall (or at best, be only a one-term president), leaving the way open for a Huckabee run for president in 2012. Huckabee himself did not speak these precise words at the session, I’m told, though supporters did.

Nobody’s surprised that The Huckster would put his own interests first. But the timing and appearances were terrible. There was a big crowd. Word was sure to get out. And Huckabee is co-host of the McCain fund-raiser tomorrow, not to mention that Huckabee’s main money man, Little Rock banker French Hill, is co-chair of Arkansas financial efforts for McCain. Whose side is he on?

Who was there? I’ve been told that the crowd included French Hill, Arkansas County farmer and Huckabee Game and Fish commissioner George Dunklin, former U.S. Sen. Tim Hutchinson, Huckabee campaign manager Chip Saltsman, Huckabee kids (Sarah, David, John Mark and daughter-in-law Lauren all were on the campaign payroll, remember, as well as bro-in-law Jim Harris), former Huckabee aide Chad Gallagher, Texas poultry magnate Bo Pilgrim and someone described as a wealthy businessman from Indiana. A good guess for the last might be Procter and Gamble exec Nathan Estruth, a Hucakbee supporter who put together a 527 that savaged McCain and other Huckabee opponents in Iowa with robo-calling emphasizing negatives of Huckabee opponents. He’s a pal of Saltsman, my source says.

You can understand why this might have caused heartburn with McCain people.

The program at the rally, in addition to a thank-you speech and talk of the future by Huckabee: Testimonials to Huckabee and the campaign’s brilliance. What a stroke it was, for example, to play a negative ad against Romney in Iowa while announcing Bro. Huck was too high-minded to run such dirty pool.

News: In addition to his new PAC, Huckabee plans to create a 501-c4 nonprofit organization, something of a think tank that, in addition to giving him access to more cash, might be used to burnish his foreign policy credentials.

Future Huckabee pep rallies around the country are scheduled. You can’t get moving too early when the presidency will be open in 2012, right Sen. McCain?

ANOTHER LOCAL ANGLE: The meeting illustrates a rift in the Hutchinson clan between and Tim and his brother Asa, who came out tepidly early for Huckabee and then switched to McCain in the final days. Tim Hutchinson has become very close to Huckabee. Tensions linger on future influence over the Arkansas Republican Party — will Hutchinson or Huckabee be on top. Asa won’t be coming to tea at the Huckabode any time soon, it’s safe to say. (But, oh yes, Asa and Mike are co-hosts of the McCain event in LR. Going to be fun at the head table.)

My suggestions for Huck’s new book:

How I Solved the Prison Overcrowding Problem

How to Lose the Republican Nomination without Really Trying

How I Alienated the Entire Mountain West and Still Lost

Divide and Conquer: My Life as a Christian Leader

  4. Peter Combes Says:

Let’s see ….. The Huckaholics will buy it. A few of the really angry people will buy it so they can direct their anger accurately. And some of the liberal opposition will buy it so they can have someone from the other side to agree with them (even if it is made up for political gain).

Such a shame that a good idea like the Fair Tax is tainted by a charlatan. - P

  5. Ron Says:

Inside the back cover will be a tear out “Get out of Jail Free” card for playing Huckopoly.

  6. frofreak Says:

    Lori,

My favorite is the last one “Divide and Conquer: My Life as a Christian Leader”. Absolutely brilliant!

  7. MarK Says:

Well, I wish him well. There are worse things he could be doing.

  8. Mit 10 Says:

Huckabee is an opportunist with a big ego. His race for the White House was driven by greed and power. I will never understand how so many Huckabee supporters bought into his act. He was so transparent and he did not come across as a very educated man.

Romney was not driven by greed. I believe his desire for power came out of his deep love of this country and he was more than qualified to sit in the oval office.

America lost because they hate! I hope they enjoy his book but Huckabee will never be President or VP. His party thinks he is a JOKE!

  9. Leslie Says:

Huck proved one thing: There is no such thing as playing fair in politics

  10. RC Says:

I wonder how much the royalties will be from Huck’s book? Maybe 20 pieces of silver!

  11. Paulee&Mike Says:

I just saw him on with Mccain stumping in ARk. He had his wife with him, it seems he doesn’t go any place without her??? Traveling with Cindy and the Huckabee’s.
Mccain said there is definatley a place for Huck. Last time he was with Mitt, he said
the same thing. I not going to make it!!!!!! I don’t know what we’ll do if he becomes vp. Huck that is.
Then, I caught Chris Matthews stating the problem that happened in Texas would
effect Mitt. They made it clear LDS church has nothing to do with that situation, what is the matter with people?????????
I’m bumming!!!!!! This is such a cruel world lately. I hope God’s plans will turn out okay. We have to Trust and be prayerful . God Bless and goodnight. Tomorrow will be a new day!!!!!!

  12. Doria/Texas Says:

Paulee&Mike, I will email Chris Matthews. The media needs to make it clear that it’s the FLDS!!!!, not the LDS. The FLDS emerged in 1930 due to the renunciation of plural marriages by LDS and its decision to excommunicate those who practice plural marriages. Whenever possible I will post positive/truthful comments about LDS. Gov Mitt Romney will not and should not affected by the FLDS in Texas. You would think that the media(journalists)would do their job. Take care everyone. By the way, I am not interested in Mike Huckabee’s book.
    Yes Mitt VP 2008

  13. Mit 10 Says:

If McCain puts Huck in his cabinet I will die. I really do not think this guy is very well educated. His solution to Americas problems is to build roads. He seems to lack a full understanding of economics, foreign policy etc. I fail to see how he could be a benefit and I do not believe that he is a moral person. He is a very cunning man and I believe that is why he has been able to fool so many and become Governor of Arkansas. His son seems to have some real issues and I think that says a lot about the kind of man Huckabee is.

  14. amanda Says:

Wow. Every time Huck does or says anything, he proves further that he really was in this for the money and power. He wants name recognition; he wants his “fee” for speaking at churches to skyrocket. And now a book? Again, for the Huckster, it’s all about the cash. It is so sad that so many were fooled by this man. We lost our chance at having a great leader in the oval office because of his selfishness and pride. At least the wide majority of the GOP knows this guy’s a joke, and he’ll never make it to the VP spot. Oh my, that would really be the day. I am still pulling for and M&M ticket–GO MITT!!!

  15. John Cronin Says:

Everybody: Great comments! It’s good to see the names of some of you who haven’t posted comments for awhile. The title suggestions for Pastor Huck’s new book were hilarious. If you think of some more please add to the list on this post.

  16. 2thepoint Says:

Lori, here’s another suggestion for Huck’s new book:
Why You Never Saw or Heard From My Kids on the Campaign Trail

The Huckabees and McCains double-dating in Arkansas - now that’s a visual!

Chris Matthews KNOWS that LDS and Flds are entirely different entities. Liberal Matthews fears the power and clout of a McCain Romney ticket, so he’s sowing the seeds of religous tainting on Mitt through insinuation. Oldest trick in the book - say something long enough and people will believe it. Hopefully, the electorate is smarter than Chris Matthews - which isn’t a stretch. We should all email Matthews with our disgust.

Two days ago it was Crist all over the TV for McCain; today it was Huckabee with McCain. Mitt, if you’re reading this, get your face back in the news cycle! Don’t let these yokels dominate the air waves.

  17. Paulee&Mike Says:

Thanks, Made me feel alittle better. I am going to write Chris Mattews, that was another slap in the face. He and Howard Dean know Mitt is just so capable, he brings
    dignity as well.

LOCALLY AS WELL. IT’S SLATED 1ST WEEK IN MAY, I THINK.

Now I know why my latest comment on the “McCain REaches out….” is still “awaiting moderation”! It is because everyone is over here, this is where the action has been!

Book lines from my own book about the last several months:

    If You schmooze,
    and do it Well,
    You Will lose, but
    Your Head will Swell

    If you cheat
    and do it well,
    Like a rose
    You will not smell

    But rather like
    a stinky thing
    You bounce and make all
    all dolts to sing

    They cheer!
    They laugh!
    but lacking humility
    they can’t see their gaff!

    Then its too late
    and they feel bad
    because the lost
    what they should have had!

    Do you think that
    They will get smart?
    And have a truly
    change of heart???

    To be shamed
    would be too good
    But, because their hearts
    Are made of wood…

    They cannot feel
    They’ve gone to far
    What to do? Where’s
    the feathers and the tar???

Oh, we already did that once
Silly us we’re such a dunce
Where can we go from hear
We live in such incredible fear!

    To feel sorry
    might be good,
    but we cannot
    because our hearts are wood….

Don’t worry ffriends, I will not be giving up my day job!

  20. Jenny Says:

Excellent commentary from the National Review online about real hope–not of the Obama “hope and change” variety. Here’s an excerpt:

You can’t give a candidate talking points on this, he’s got to feel that exceptionalism in his bones. When Mitt Romney spoke in College Station, he said:

The consequence of our common humanity is our responsibility to one another, to our fellow Americans foremost, but also to every child of God. It is an obligation which is fulfilled by Americans every day, here and across the globe, without regard to creed or race or nationality.

Americans acknowledge that liberty is a gift of God, not an indulgence of government. No people in the history of the world have sacrificed as much for liberty. The lives of hundreds of thousands of America’s sons and daughters were laid down during the last century to preserve freedom, for us and for freedom loving people throughout the world. America took nothing from that Century’s terrible wars — no land from Germany or Japan or Korea; no treasure; no oath of fealty. America’s resolve in the defense of liberty has been tested time and again. It has not been found wanting, nor must it ever be. America must never falter in holding high the banner of freedom.

There’s something different about that. If you believe it, you can’t have just been proud of America for the first time in your life in the last year. If you believe that, you simply cannot expose your children to “God damn America.” If you believe that, you can inspire people because you have a source of inspiration much more compelling than a poll or approval (or disapproval!) rating. It’s the kind of inspiration that inspires a man who’s still wealthy enough to be doing anything he wants, to put his plans on hold and pick up and campaign for you, the presumptive Republican nominee, even if you lied about him along the primary way.

That made me really miss Mitt. Here’s a link to the full article. http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=ZjViMGQ0MThkOTM4YWRhMTZhYjVkY2RhYzg4ZDdiMDA=&w=MQ==
I suggest you read it–it’s excellent. It’s mostly about Bush and the visit from Pope Benedict. The part about Mitt is on the second page.

Another place to let Chris Mathews know how you feel is his new MySpace page. This link will take you to MSNBC - it’s a fast way to connect to Mathews’ MySpace. At the TOP of the third column from right, you’ll see a quick link to Mathews’ page. From there you can leave a comment. (If you don’t have a MySpace account, it’s quick and easy to create one.)

KKSM, thanks for sharing your poetry. Paulee, if you do get to hear Mitt speak, TAKE PICTURES. I’m sure Anne Marie Curling would add them to the slide show on this site.

Been seeing a lot of Kevin Madden on the news circuit (Romney’s former National Press Secretary). Being associated with Romney’s campaign has led to greener pastures for him. He’s bright, articulate, and unflappable. IF McCain chooses Mitt for VP, I hope Kevin will jump on the bandwagon, again, to help M & M elected.

    Have a refreshing weekend, everyone!

  22. 2thepoint Says:

Jenny, thanks for the “heads up” on the National Review Online article. Kathryn Jean Lopez authored a wonderful piece. Limbaugh is absolutely right about the caliber of Romney and reading this made me hungry to be inspired by Romney again.

Mitt, hope to see you on TV, soon! Sean Hannity, are you listening?!

  23. Tami Says:

Jenny, thank you so much for the link to the national review article and what a fantastic article it was too!!
Thanks 2thepoint for the link to contact Chris Matthews. Off to do that now!

  24. Jenny Says:

    You’re welcome! :)
2thepoint, I felt the same way.

  25. Paulee&Mike Says:

KKSM: now I have your problem, I have to get to that dinner and take pictures. I’ll
contact my state rep. tomorrow. I was all set, then Romney suspended.
Have you seen the body language report that Mccain is comfortable with Huckabee.?
I don’t know if I’ll make it, that really makes me sick!!!!!!I liked your your book lines,
very inciteful. Let’s all go to the abc poll and vote!!!!!!! Mitt is 3rd!!!!!!!!
Thanks for Chris Matthew’s link and national review article. I have to go calm down
    now.

  26. John Cronin Says:

    Paulee & Mike,

That’s the spirit! Take pictures and let me know when you are back. Post something on a comment and I will write a post so that you can tell us about your experiences.

  27. Paulee&Mike Says:

I CALLED MY STATE REP, WAITING FOR A CALL BACK. I SO WANT TO GO TO THE CONVENTION, I WILL LOAD MY CAMERA WITH PICTURES FOR YOU ALL. I WILL REPORT TO YOU AS SOON AS I GET HOME. I WILL CONFIRM GOING AS SOON AS I HEAR BACK.
    KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED!!!!!!!!!
    MAINELY YOURS, PAULEE

  28. Chris Says:

    Paulee&Mike
Tell Mitt, if you see him, that WE WANT HIM, and to not give up because WE WONT. But we cannot and will not support a Mccain huckabee ticket.

And I’ve see McCain in the same ‘pose’ with Romney as well. So, it’s not body language, it’s politics. How much did huck raise for him again? As much as Mitt? Thought so.

  29. Paulee&Mike Says:

Oh My!!!!! I’m in, got my brown envelope, sending out my checks by golly!!!! This is exciting, I don’t think I’ll make it. Just spoke to our code enforcement officer , very political person and very involved . He shared with me that Mccain and Romney cut a deal at the time of his suspention. He talks to the powers that be, and is quite informed. He stated he thinks Romney’s VP. I hope and you all do as well that it’s
Mitt. Oh well, I certainly don’t want to give us false hopes, but we can be happy
for alittle while. Maybe the Lord is listening, I sure hope so, for our countries sake.
God Bless America LOL, Paulee I KNOW LOTS OF PICTURES . YIPPEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!

  30. 2thepoint Says:

    Way to go, Paulee!!!

The info your code enforcement officer passed about McCain and Romney cutting a deal has me doing somersaults and tap dancing! Shuffle, ball, step… shuffle, ball, step… (dance moves). If only it proves to be true… Woo hoo!

I know lots of us posted messages for Mitt when he dropped out of the race. Maybe we could all post a note or two specifically for Mitt and Ann at this point in the election and you could print them out and present them to Romney? I don’t think he has more loyal supporters than the good folks on this website!

Along with plenty of photos, hope you get his autograph, too. It will be worth lots of money some day!

  31. KKSM Says:

Oh Paulee, I can only hope that that is true and not just another rumor! I would certainly love nothing more….

I am so excited for you I could just burst! This is going to be a great night for the two of you. KKSM

  32. Paulee&Mike Says:

Hey everyone, I sure hope it isnt just a rumor as well. I will talk to lots of people that evening. I’ll get all that I can pictures, I called the GOP headquarters in Augusta, Maine
asking about video that could be entered on our site, if they’ll be doing one etc. I’m waiting on a call back. Person was not sure, but most helpful.
I wish I could tuck you all in my pockets, or wave a magic wond and we could all celebrate this occasion together.
Autograph???? you know, I did get Laura Bush’s autograph when she came, I’ll try!!!!
I have really enjoyed the bond here, what a nice group of people. Onward with
our cause, cause we are coMITTed to Romney!!!!!!!!!

  33. Paulee&Mike Says:

2thepoint: If you wish, send me a note, everyone, maybe that’s how I can get close to him for info, pictures, etc. I’ll have this stack of notes, can you picture it now: Oh, Gov. Romney I have lots of note for you!!!!!!!!!That should get a laugh!!!!!! Don’t think I won’t do it, my husband will probably faint.
Chris: I will certainly let him know your thoughts.
    KKSM: Your the best!!!!!!
Gosh, I haven’t been this excited since before Mitt suspended!!!!!!

  34. Paulee&Mike Says:

Hey, you want to see Romney leave HUCK IN THE DUST??? I’ll tell everyone to pass on the GOP site and vote, there will be 2,400 people there! Pass it on!!! Word of mouth, best advertising!!!!!
