McCain Reaches Out to Black Voters in Pitch for America’s “Forgotten”

Some creative campaigning going on in the McCain camp. Doing something unanticipated for a Republican, asking for votes in areas that would be considered Democratic strong holds. I like the assertiveness of it. You might say the audacity of audacity.

Talking about his presidency bringing back the economic good times. Does that remind anyone of Gov. Romney’s speech to the autoworkers in Michigan during their primary and how well he did in the voting there?

In stark contrast to his Democrat rivals, John McCain spent yesterday far from Pennsylvania, where, unopposed, he will pick up all 74 delegates. He was in a depressed steel town in Ohio, telling voters that under his leadership, the economic good times would return.

“You’ve been written off a few times yourselves, in the competition of the market,” Mr McCain said in Youngstown. “You know how it feels to hear that good things are happening in the American economy – they’re just not happening to you.”

Wonderful campaign strategy, to draw a contrast between the old Republican stereotype of the “Robber Baron” who oppressed anyone not born with a silver spoon in their mouths and who partied with his rich buddies at exclusive country clubs while the poor tried to get the money together for a few lumps of coal. This is significant that the McCain campaign has the instinctive feel for the need to get out to areas not previously thought to be winnable for a Republican candidate. I would like to see more of this. We need to enlarge the Party and this is a great start. Can you picture the ads that can be produced from this footage?

But the trip has provided Mr McCain with useful video material that will doubtless be turned to good effect in the general election. At one stage he was serenaded with old spirituals by quilters from Gee’s Bend, Alabama.

One quilter, Mary Lee Bendolph, said that she was supporting Barack Obama but she lavished praise on Mr McCain for visiting.

I think it’s wonderful that Mccain is reaching out, we need all the friends we can muster
He will get what he wants, by helping others get what they want. So many ways to go now, green technology, cars with better gas mileage, less emmission, etc.
We just need to get busy!!!!!!!! This country is the best, we can come above all this with caring, responsible, knowledgeable leadership. Let’s hope Mccain chooses the
best folks for these jobs.I think he really wants to be a good President, did I say that????????

  2. KKSM Says:

Paulee!!!! You did say that!!!! I think you are right. I pray so. If you are, then he will do all he can to be that and that includes getting the best man for the VP slot and we know who that is. Prayers were never more needed!!!!

I hope you got all your leaves raked! I hired neighbor kids to come help, there is just too much to do and they need the money so we will share the wealth!!!!

,KKSM: I did get all my leaves done at home, but at our cottage I did what you did , I hired two neighbors . I just never have seen so many leaves.
Shucks, Crist was on tv tonight pandering about being on McCain’s short list. I will be livered if he gets vp. I sorry I won’t be able to vote. First time in my life. It’s not about
having my own way either. It’s about cheats winning. I just flat out can’t stand it!!!!
I’ll vote for Romney???? Oh, darn, I don’t know what I’ll do. Help!!!!!!!!!
Talk later, Paulee ps Laura and Jenna Bush are on Larry King tonight, she’s a lady, I really like her. Met her here and got her autograph. That was fun!!!!

Gosh Paulee, maybe we have one mind between us. When Mitt suspended his campaign, I nearly drove my husband crazy for days on end whining (yes, its true, I cried and whined!) that it is not fair that cheaters win. Cheaters should absolutely, positively NEVER be allowed to win…. NEVER and it drives me crazy. It happens and it is sickening. It happened to MItt and look at his graciousness! It is amazing what the man went through and still retained his dignity and humility. Crist does not deserve to be there and neither do many others. To be fair though, there are a few who would do well there, but you know the list as far as I am concerned is VERY short because, I just do not see the integrity out there that I think we should see in elected leaders…. don’t get me started on that!!!$%#%#$^%&^&&^%%^$#%#$@#$()(!

Had to go to a meeting so did not get to see Laura Bush. That too is sad. She is a good woman and I don’t care what anybody says, I LIKE GEORGE BUSH! So there! I actually am in a great minority now, but I still maintain that he is a good man… it is not a popular opinion and I don’t care if anyone disagrees with me or not… it is all good.

Sorry KKSM: I didn’t realize you had responded to me here. I’m all over the place. You have lots of places for us to go. I check out all your suggestions on your messages.
This is so funny, we went through the same feelings, I still have days that I flash back
and get really angry and disappointed all over again. KKSM, are you by any chance
a virgo?. I don’t follow sun signs, just date of birth thing, and read about habits, likes
etc. My husband said I’m too loyal, I think more folks should be. I can’t stand cheaters,
either! I also like Bush, he has had a very difficult time in office. It is a tremendous undertaking.
So the latest, Huck has a book coming., I wonder how he’ll bash Mitt in that, talk about whinning, I think that’s Huck’s the biggest cry baby, for a grownup I’ve ever seen. Enjoyed your message, thanks. Have a wonderful weekend.

    Dear Paulee,

I have been all over the place too and I have loved seeing the comments on the boards I have sent people too!!! It has been fun to read what you say. You are very convincing and I have also learned alot from you.

No, not virgo. I am a cancer. I do not live by my horoscope, but I do think some of the personality things that they say are dead on!!! It is certainly true that I make myself sick worrying about things I cannot change and people I cannot control… (which is everyone since none of us should ever try to control another so therefore I have to live with too much disappointment because people don’t do what I think they should…)

I am listening to Sean Hannity right now and he has spent so much time on how McCain is wrong in his treatment of the NC GOP add about Rev. Wright. I too do not understand why he seems to be defending Obama but treated a fellow Republican so horribly!!! I had just barely started making amends with McCain. It was taking so much effort, but I was succeeding. Now, I have kind of slipped back somewhat. Back sliding! I feel McCain is divisive right now in the GOP!!!! I am disappointed in him again and what is worse, I don’t know if I want to saddle poor Romney with him for 4 years or not. I am afraid he would be like a boil on Romneys backside and I would spend 4 years praying Romney through a difficult 4 years!!!! ARGH!!!!

I am glad I know there is a God and I am not it!!!!! My husband said it is good I am not God, my finger would be on the “smite button” way too often!

I am glad He is there, I can let Him be in charge. “Thy will be done” is the hardest prayer I ever prayed.
