Former Massachusetts governor and 2008 Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is set to guest host the morning and afternoon editions of Paul Harvey News & Comment on Thursday.

Ron Chapman and occasional guests hosts have been filling in for Harvey since the end of February as the legendary host has been recovering from pneumonia. Now scheduled for cataract surgery, the 89-year-old Harvey is expected to be back on the air on April 25.

  2. Kent Says:

    go to http://www.paulharvey.com/
It looks like you will be able to download and listen to any show there.

  3. KKSM Says:

Thank you Kent! I appreciate that very much… KKSM

  4. copp Says:

This is what I find so comforting about Romney. Once the guy sets a goal for himself….HE”S RELENTLESS. …He never lets you down. Go Man Go!…Oh well, let’s coin a new variation….GO MITT GO!!!

  5. A Fan Says:

HELLO AMERICANS, STAND BY FOR MMMIIITTTTTTT!

  6. John Cronin Says:

I want Mitt to have his own political commentary radio show, even if its only a five minute filler. He needs to stay in the public arena.

  7. Phil Says:

When Fred was subbing for Paul Harvey last year he had “The Fred Thompson Report” I think you can still get them on iTunes but they were Fred’s take on specific current events and policy issues of the day, with the conservative angle. It was usually 5 or so minutes long too.

I agree though Gov. Romney should have his own political commentary show, maybe one day he could be given the Enormous task of subbing for El Rushbo, unless he’s busy running for Vice President then you know, duty calls.

  8. Steve Andrew Says:

    John & Phil:

I don’t like the idea of a political commentary, but I like ya thinking. Governor Romney should stay in the public arena.

I feel ever more confident that the Romney McCain relationship is growing, and for the better actually! We’ll see what Mitt has to say tomorrow.

    Good Night,

    Steve O

Here is a link to a Dallas, Tx radio station to listen live on your computor. The morning guy, Mark Davis, filled in for Rush last week.

I just heard him on the morning half and thought he did awesome!

  11. Lee Ann Says:

Is there somewhere I can go to listen to the broadcast? I missed it.

  12. Lee Ann Says:

You can go to PaulHarvey.com to listen to the broadcast. I should have checked before I asked.

Shades of Reagan in the 1970s!

  14. KKSM Says:

It was great and I cannot wait until I hear the afternoon one! What an ability…. America sure did miss the boat the first time around I’d say! May be we can be smart this time….. Mitt for VP to prepare for 2012! KKSM

  15. MarK Says:

    Dear Governor Romney,

I have been a fan of yours for years. I just listened to you on Paul Harvey. All I can say is, “Don’t quit your day-job.”

    Sincerely,

    Mark

  16. frofreak Says:

    Mark,

lol, yeah, he does better on the stump than on the radio (his voice cracking was never more apparent)…still, Paul Harvey is no spring chicken, and his show comes off as too scripted as well. I think it would be interesting to see how well Romney would do on a interview/take calls type of show, I predict better. Not that I want to see him go into talk radio… ;)

  17. KKSM Says:

well, he sounded great to me!!!!

  18. Steve Andrew Says:

    MarK & frofreak:

Actually, I know Governor Romney sounds odd, but that’s just how he sounds. Some people don’t like the intellectual and eloquent way Romney speaks.

I really liked both segments and am ready to see his speech today.

  19. StevenInBrooklyn Says:

I’m sure some EQ adjustment could help, but…whatever….nice to hear him again.

  20. Phil Says:

I didn’t really notice a change in his voice when listening. To me he sounded like he has when being on tv during speeches or debates, but then again my hearing isn’t as good as others so maybe I’m wrong.

  21. Steve Andrew Says:

Nah Phil, you’re hearing is okay!- Romney just has a distinct voice.

  22. KKSM Says:

And a great voice if you ask me! I have always thought he sounded good, but perhaps that is because as you say it is just so distinctive. I have never really tried to analyze it before, I just knew he said the right things in (what was/is to me) a pleasing way! KKSM

  23. frofreak Says:

lol, OK guys, I didn’t mean to blast him, I also thought he did good. I just think the format didn’t allow him to play to his strengths. Hope I see him doing more of anything, it’s nice to see him being involved in different things.

  24. copp Says:

well, having just listened to them, I’d say Mitt might play well in cornball land if that’s where this show is enjoyed (tho I think Harvey’s appeal is much broader). Mitt’s corny enough without this kind of canned corniness. And some people think he was canned enough to begin with. So this is a double edged can of corn. Proceed at your own risk Mitt! It’d be better if Mitt talked about stuff he actually found interesting and used his own sophisticated sense of humor….rather than this too obviously dumbed down stuff. He can be endearingly corny and very funny when he’s talking about stuff that he’s really interested in. A show with that kind of thing - even in this format - would be much better.

  25. 2thepoint Says:

I don’t think Romney is going around the country beating on the doors of radio stations begging to be allowed to slap a set of headphones on his ears.

Harvey’s people probably contacted HIM and asked him to “sub” for Paul for a day. Being the good sport he is, obviously Romney agreed. It shows that Romney is willing to help out, game to try something new, and have a little fun while doing it. And, he has a fine voice.

It was a far better effort than Obama’s foray onto a bowling lane…

  26. Steve Andrew Says:

Haha 2thepoint - I empathize with Romney. I feel the same way. I want to say something but I don’t know if people are going to get it. And if they don’t get it they will think I’m a stuck up intellectual. sigh.

  27. Hava Says:

Oh, that was so nice to hear. I listened through both episodes. I know it’s weird, but I’ve MISSED hearing Mitt’s voice. I have listened to so many speeches by him, I would recognize his voice even if it wasn’t identified as being him. It is very distinctive.

I agree - this isn’t his strong suit, and I certainly hope he doesn’t take over for Paul Harvey, but I still think it was a good move by him.

I Miss Mitt. I see a bumper sticker in the making here…

In April, 2007 I flew into Seattle for a birthday party being held on the other side of the Cascades the following day. My cousin was a firm Giuliani supporter and as we drove over the mountains we had an in-depth political conversation. We were agreed that we liked both Giuliani and Romney; and I ventured the opinion that Romney would be superior in dealing with ideological dynamics. I was reminded of this when I listened to him on Paul Harvey News & Comment and he spoke about China, the Olympics, and ideology. If we were to need to wage a hot war I think Mitt would be an excellent Commander in Chief, but I think he would be superior in the “continuation of policy by other means.”

  29. Steve Andrew Says:

I’m afraid Giuliani has the same problem Dan Qayle had - everybody thought he was a moron and everybody really prayed that Bush 41 wouldn’t die.
