Paul Weyrich Disavows Anti-Romney Ad

April 8th, 2008 Posted in 2008 Election, Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, Paul Weyrich

Well, this looks like a case of “I was against it, before I was for it, before I was against it”.  Rergarding his name being included on the the anti-Romney ad, Werich says:

Recently I received a phone call from someone asking if former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney should be Arizona Senator John McCain’s selection for Vice President of the United States. I said, “No” because I did not think this was the best path for Romney right now; nor was it, in my view, the right fit for McCain. My understanding was that this was to be a personal letter to the Senator; it was not clear to me that this was to be an advertisement. Thus, I now request that my involvement in this effort be disregarded as this effort to influence the Senator moves on.

Obviously this guy is not scoring any points for judgement or consistency. At least he has recognized that he made a mistake. He endorsed Mike Huckabee after Mitt dropped out; and he obviously regrets supporting Mitt to begin with, as last month he uttered the following to several dozen “Christian Leaders”:

Friends, before all of you and before almighty God, I want to say I was wrong.

Weyrich is free to make his own decisions; I feel that cutting him some slack is in order, as he had both of his legs amputated from complications which followed a serious spinal injury. If these Social Conservatives  Huckabee supporters feel that they should have backed their candidate sooner, that is fine; however their choice to attack Mitt Romney as a result of their own ineptitude is ridiculous at best.

All he said is he doesn’t want his name attached to the letter’s sentiments in public. He was (and presumably is) fine with them - just let’s keep it private. This guy is over.

This man follows through with actions as much as Barack associates with people who are proud of America. Awesome follow up Rusty, but this guy probably got what he wanted. Paul wanted some attention for Huckabee and I wouldn’t be surprised that Mike has to send out a press release and then go back and forth so he can get his other 15 minutes of fame.

Generally when I put my name on a document, I know what it says and I know the parties involved. Lending your name to people like Newman and the rest is a huge mistake.

This operation rescue is one of the most extreme groups, as close to domestic terrorism as you can get. It is one thing to recognize and participate in conversations and it is quite another to participate in stalking, fear, intimidation, all under the pretense of tax-exemption, to the point where you have that status revoked. That is Newman, ironically, who is on the record stating his group is neither conservative nor Republican.

I also think that Weyrich was unaware of the push to transform our system of laws with a biblical orientation—whatever that means.

Paul Weyrich speaks to millions and asks for their trust in him - that is no longer something he can ask. His actions speaks louder than any words or advice he could ever give. We have withdrawn our membership in Heritage Foundation and told them why.

    Rusty,

What is your source for Weyrich’s request that his involvement be disregarded? The fact that he’s on the petition is all over the web, but the echo chamber apparently hasn’t picked this one up.

I have read this somewhere else also but I can’t remember where. How do we get the word out because most articles are still using Weyrich’s name as the clout for this petition.
