  1. Lori Says:

In the interest of be-careful-what-you-wish-for, I hesitate to sign the petition until I knew whether Romney really wanted this. He seems willing to accept a call to the Vice Presidency by evidence of his public statements saying he would be honored. I am an ardent supporter of Romney for President. As an executive, a VP slot would be a waste of Mitt’s skills and talents. He wants to make America strong, use his unique skills set to better this country. Its not the job that he wants, its the opportunity he wants to turn things around. I respect him for devoting his time, talents, and treasure to that effort when he did not have to.

He is a patriot and would accept the VP assignment if asked. Nevertheless, he is supporting McCain and now wants him to win the election. If Romney is the VP nominee, he can bring the needed support to McCain and win. There are many like me who are less inclined to support McCain without Mitt on the ticket. If McCain is smart he will choose Mitt. I think Mitt is his only hope for gaining conservative support. McCain needs Mitt more than Mitt needs McCain.

  2. Doria/Texas Says:

I just read the article which will be in the New York Times tomorrow. I have already sent Senator McCain a sample letter which I got from “unitethegop”. The letter states that I am favor of a McCain-Romney ticket and it clearly gives four reasons. I also mailed and faxed a copy of the letter to my two Texas US senators. Thanks for the work your are doing on committed to Romney…I really do appreciate it.
Go Mitt Vp in 2008! YesMittVP!!

  3. Johnny K Says:

It very unfortunate that many people don’t know the real “Mitt Romney” This is the very man who used and lied to people (including many of his ex-supporters) in order to get ahead.

  4. Frozone Says:

Sorry, Johnny K. Unlike you, I do personally know Governor Romney. Your characterization misses the mark.

  5. amanda Says:

great idea, rusty! thanks for setting this up! i have already signed it and i am forwarding the link to everyone i know! go m&m!!!

  7. MARYANN HILL Says:

Wanted to sign your petition for Romney for Vice President, but have not decided if I will or will not vote for McCain if Romney is not on the ticket, and you wouldn’t allow me to submit my name without my decision.

    Sorry.

  8. KKSM Says:

Johnny K, you keep trying and trying. I cannot however quite understand what it is that you are trying to do. From the looks of it, you are just trying to get us to hate like you do. I will not fall into the hate trap and I doubt many on here will. Perhaps you would be happier on a board where people will appreciate you. No one here is going to jump to your hate hype….

By the way, Mitt is a good man. So sad you cannot see the good there….

  9. Matt Prihoda Says:

I’m not going to do what you guys did. I don’t want Romney anywhere near the presidency, but I’m not going to falsely sign your petition. As a Huckabee supporter, I’m not going to play like you guys. I’m going to keep my debate where it belongs - on a blog. Not a petition.

    Matt

  10. Lynne Tucker Says:

Mitt Romney is intelligent, articulate, inspiring (able to talk about what’s GOOD about America quite well), and has excellent economic/managerial skills–whether it’s running a company, a state, or a large organization (Olympics) he’s a proven leader.

Romney possesses remarkable debating skills and is capable of maintaining his cool while others are attacking him (see GOP 2007 debates for proof).

Romney is a man of character and has a lovely and close-knit family.

Romney realizes that America needs protection from the deterioration illegal immigration and porous borders cause our great nation, daily.

I wish John McCain would put aside his ego/jealously toward Romney and pick him as VP.

If you think spilling out facts that you dont want to hear is hate, well in your world, I guess it’s hate but that is not what I’m doing.
Over the years many voted/supported and financially gave to the Romney campaign based on many issues they felt strongly about. These supporters/volunteers where burnt when little by little he changed his stand on the issues that elected him into political office. Speak too many of his ex supporters up here in New England; they will tell you they feel used. Did you know that a recent poll showed he would not be reelected in Massachusetts if he ran again and he would also not win his state in a presidential election? Again, it shows that the people who lived in the state that he was elected in where sold a bill of goods that he didn’t deliver. Now they know why he kept changing his position, to become electable on a national stage. These are just examples of how he burnt many that once supported him.

  12. Johnny K Says:

    Frozone
I too know Mitt “personally” my family, friends and I worked very hard on his campaign when he ran for Senate and for Governor of Massachusetts So I think I know him quite well thank you.

  13. Rusty Says:

Matt, I appreciate your integrity; however, the anti-Mitt petition asks people if they would vote for him. Anyone has the oppertunity to speak their mind.

  14. KKSM Says:

    Rusty,
That is exactly what I thought. It clearly asks:

Would you vote for a McCain / Romney ticket?
    Absolutely not
    I would consider it
    I would vote for McCain/Romney

To me, this leaves it wide open to tell why you would or would not vote for Mitt. I don’t know who penned it, but if they did not want it to be about Mitt, they should have perhaps worded it differently… KKSM

  15. Rusty Says:

Matt, The Judas reference was applied to Paul Weyrich, who endorsed Mitt Romney, until just a few days ago. It is not that he does not support our candidate–It’s that he did support him until people convinced him that supporting a Mormon was not in his best interests.

Look, this anti-Mitt campaign has been waged by anti-Mormon, Huckabee supporters. We are not here to have a debate with you. There is no debate, as Mitt received more votes, more delegates, and won more states than Huckabee. We don’t need to justify our support to you or anyone else. This is about a hate filled anti-Mitt campaign; we are simply responding to it. Fred Thompson, Rudy Guiliani, Tom Tancredo, and Sam Brownback, also finished behind Mitt; but you don’t see their former supporters launching petitions against Romney. You can say whatever you want, but the majority of the backlash stems from evangelicals who refuse to see a Mormon in power. Most of us are Republicans; we support the conservative agenda. We have better things to do than launch bigoted personal attacks.

  16. Sarah Says:

OK Johnny K. I understand you feel burnt, yet holding a grudge does nobody a great deal of good. Sorry you feel so hurt but get over it. You have a had a good year by now. And you know what else, just what did Mitt not delivere on. Was it that he didn’t deliver when he said No to gay marriage and found a 1813 law (think that was the year) and tried to stop the activists court over their in Massachusetts? Did you feel burnt that he didn’t take the endorsement of the pro-life group?

Was this or was this not the man who delivered health care in Massachusetts to every resident? He raised fees, not taxes. Are you concerned that because he only changed his abortion position three years ago that he can change it again? Maybe thats reasonable but how many times does a man have to say “I’ve had a change of heart” for the world to believe him? I am sorry but Mitt became more conservative on this position not more liberal (would you have liked it that way, if he had became more liberal?). What amazes me about people like you is that we put all the evidences of his change of heart right infront of your face and you say “flip flopper”. I swear here and now I will never call any one a flip flopper ever again.

The Principles behind his decisions remain the same. And that is why I will always support Mitt Romney.

  17. mark Says:

Have you ever thought why the most liberal state in the country would elect an ultra conservative as their Governor? The answer was quite clear back then; he feed the people what they wanted to hear on the issues, just like he did during his run for President. Do you think for a moment that if Romney ran for Governor now (knowing where he stands on key issues) he would get elected? NO WAY!
Romney was as smart as the people in Massachusetts were dumb, they got the hook, line and sinker. The people who support him now will get the same, hook, line and sinker.

  18. Renna Says:

    JohnnynK:
I have NEVER seen you express gratitude for the fact that Mitt Romney made the “tough” decisions in your state to get you out of a 3 billion dollar budget deficit, balance your budget every year that he was in office, initiate a health care plan that might not have been perfect but was a beginning to assure that all of Mass citizens had health care, stand in front of the legislature with the people to support marriage between a man and a woman and I am sure countless other positive things that are not made public by “fair weather supporters” like you. If you thought he would be able to go into the position in such a liberal state and not be presented with insurmountable obstacles, then you were a fool. He was the Governor for all of the people of Mass and not just you. In the face of that fact, you should be a front line supporter, forever. Try imagining what you would have done faced with the liberal obstacles - getting even one of your campaign promises accomplished would have been seen as victory. Don’t be so quick to criticize until you walk in a man’s shoes. His well know accomplishments and his successes personally and professionally speak for themselves. Don’t cut your nose off to spite your face.

Hey Matt - get a life. The one you are leading now is obviously going in the wrong direction.

Check out Matt A.’s comment on the Charlton Heston title…. KKSM

  20. Johnny K Says:

Renna, I left you a very detailed response but it’s not showing-up yet, I hope that you come back to read it once it gets through moderation - I left many facts with links for back-up.

  21. Nate Gunderson Says:

    Johnny -
I don’t know if your comment has been posted yet, but I currently don’t see anything held in moderation. If it not up and it should be, I have no clue why it’s not. Sorry.

  22. Johnny K Says:

Nate, I just tried reposting and this is the error message I recvd.

Duplicate comment detected; it looks as though you’ve already said that!

I’ll try chopping the message in two (it’s very long) maybe that’s it?

  23. Johnny K Says:

    Renna,
You wrote that I should express “gratitude” for the fact that Mitt stood in front of the legislature with the people to support marriage between a man and a woman?

Now Renna, I don’t believe you are an unloving person, but for saying I should be “grateful” that Romney tried to strip rights away from families is really down right incomprehensible.

First off, “the people” you refer to are the “over the top” religious kind, I was there, I saw them. We need to end the use of religion to justify bigotry and discrimination, not embrace it. The “majority” of Massachusetts citizens are fine with same-sex marriage The most recent Massachusetts poll, in April 2007; found that 56 percent of those surveyed would oppose the amendment. Romney wasn’t listening to “the people” he did this for higher political gain, that’s it (fact link #1 listed below)

I hope that if you had a son or daughter that was gay, in a long loving relationship with or without kids, that you Renna, would want them to have the same protections that you and your husband have/had. I would never want my child to have less rights then I…. I would die in order to protect them from the ones who got in the way, I hope you would too.

If you really feel strongly about marriage, you should look at doing something about the divorce rate, the US’s divorce rate is near 50%, while countries that allow same-sex couples to wed are considerably lower (I listed the facts below – link 2 & 3) – It’s also very ironic that the very state that allows same-sex marriage also is the one with the fewest divorces in the country (fact link #4)

One last thing, Divorce rates among conservative Christians were significantly higher than for other faith groups, and much higher than Atheists and Agnostics experience. (fact link #5)

So as I laid out so carefully, it has nothing to do with “protecting marriage” as it has to do with religious discrimination and outright bigotry.

I really hope that you try to look at this issue from outside your religion.

    Thank You,
    Johnny K
