If you’ve been paying attention to Novak at all in the primaries, you’d know he was doing everything he could to discount Romney as a legitimate candidate from the beginning, using the Mormon excuse and accusing conservatives of being bigots, while pumping Huckabee. He made a total fool of himself.

But don’t make the mistake of thinking that if McCain picks someone else, that catering to bigotry is the reason, like Novak claims. McCain said clearly he wants someone who agrees with him on all the issues, repeatedly. Romney does on the main ones, but they have their differences… and we all know Romney is a team player, you can’t be a great executive without those skills. Let’s not fall for the way others will try to diminish him, if he’s not the one.

Ignore Novak, he’s been living in a bubble for so long, all he can see is his naval, and he has to come up with something to say to earn a paycheck and save face. He’s looking worse and worse, frankly, I think it’s time for him to retire.

I’m willing to say let the best man win!!!! No one is perfect, but both Huck and Romney in the race at the same time and Mitt won more delegates, 11 states to
Mccain’s 13 and the last two debates over Huck. The people spoke all knowing
fair well all of what you might call Romney’s short comings. At age 61 , if you haven’t
learned how to asess and soul search and stand for values that you with research
realize you change your stand and admit, your a fool!!!!! That Romney is not!!!!!
I have difficulty with a preacher that harbors so much jealousy. Jealousy has been know to cause wars!!!!!! Karl Rove’s stated Mitt is a mathmatical genious. Mitt’s
energy, business turn around private sector knowledge is invaluable to this failing
economy. If Crist, Lieberman, and Martinez hadn’t pulled the dirty politic lies, I think
Mitt would have won!!!!!!!! Now, as for all this Mormon ta lk and again Huck making
such mean evaluations,Mitt beat Huck’s numbers there as well. As Joe Scarborough
said, Romney got the most conservatives to vote for him. This is a critical time, and
we are all worried. This is about our countries future, our children and grandkids future. Iv’e been really listening and trying to be most fair, and the only man in this

I come on this board to debate. I’ve had a lot of interesting debates. I’m sorry if you think I’m rude. I just like to use sarcasm. I know good, wise and moral people can change their mind. I just don’t see good, wise and moral people changing from pro-life to pro-choice to pro-life. It seems politically calculating to me. I’m being intellectually honest here.
Mitt didn’t just mature. He held liberal positions to win a liberal state. Now he’s trying to hold conservative ones to win a national office. Mitt never convinced me that he was a genuine conservative. He simply never proved he wasn’t just trying to package a conservative viewpoint together to win an election. I wanted someone who really believed conservatism, who didn’t just adopt it for an election cycle.

And Mit 10…you’re correct, McCain does need us coservative right people. So he needs a conservative candidate, not a wishy-washy like Romney. He needs a brilliant choice to win. Everyone who knows me knows I’m a Huckabee supporter. But, I’m not sure even he’s the best choice. I’m willing to say it. Are you Romney-ites willing to say that about your man ?

Of course Romney said he wasn’t expecting a call - Huckabee said the same thing, its what everyone says. If you asked Crist, Pawlenty, Sanford, I’m sure all would say the exact same.

As for Novak - I don’t know. I think its hard to see how a list of 20 potential VPs doesn’t include Romney, and the argument that Romney would cause a religion issue with that nut of a preacher of Obama’s floating around.

And, McCain’s staffers may not be the biggest fans of Romney, but McCain has a tend to buck his staffers. FOX reported that many of McCain’s staffers said that he didn’t need to win over the Conservative right, and that he should instead focus on moderates. Obviously, he didn’t listen to them.

Fox was also reporting that, despite what Romney said, he’s a fool if he doesn’t think he is being considered.

I actually think religion issues would fade in the background with Romney on the ticket. I think Mr Obama will own any “religion baggage” from here on given his associations with the Rev Wright and his particular espoused theology. In fact, if Obama IS on the other ticket, I think it would guarantee the Dems won’t use religion as a tactic.

Christal - I think Romney’s appeal to his supporters to support McCain has not yielded the kind of support the McCain camp would like. Perhaps in Nov. many of those conservatives will come around and support McCain but for now I believe many agree with your comment that McCain is selfish and lacks character and thus they do not want to support at this time or would be more inclined to support if McCain selected him as his VP.

McCain used Romney to appeal to those of us who still feel strongly about the qualifications and character of Romney. McCain is like a military man who goes out on a date (one nite stand) merely for using someone for his own selfish benefit. McCain used Romney who cooperated for the benefit of the party. McCain - selfish; Romney - selfless. I believe the religious issue has been raised and the only person of character who can handle it without looking like a bigot is Romney. Anybody want a one nite stand with McCain without committment.

I am always getting donation requests from the RNC. With each request, I tell them the same thing. I am withholding ANY donations until Romney is named Veep. If not, I’ll have to consider on a case by case bases. If Huck is on the ticket, all bets are off, and I’m working for Obama. I would rather have a very liberal person, than a bigot, any day.
I head the Novak stuff about religion. I have send him a e-mail telling him to get over it. It is not a crime to be LDS, in fact, it should be a asset. Real america will vote for a mormon. Only a handfull will not. You can find those few standing outside the conference center this weekend holding up their hate filled signs as the members attend conference.

Novak is a pretty reliable source and according to him McCain campers think Romney will bring the negative anti religion issue to the ticket. This was reported on the Sean Hannity radio show. However, I think the who’s who in the republican party feel that McCain does not stand a chance against Obama without Romney on the ticket. But even if McCain decides to support his fellow republicans (this has not been his strength) and put Romney on the ticket, the support for Obama is still very strong and McCain / Romney could loose and that could look bad for Romney in 2012. It sounds like McCain is being lazy in the way he is conducting his run for the White House. He would make a lazy President. I think the republicans deserve what they get if they loose the White House in 2008. They held back there support for Romney and helped McCain win the delegates because it was McCain’s turn. Also, Fox News supported McCain. But the real irony behind all of this is America is racing to prove she is not racist and proud to support a well-spoken black man. The question is will America ever feel the same drive to prove she is not bigoted and be willing to support a well spoken, well qualified, morally driven WHITE man in his bid for the White House.

I was disappointed to hear Mitt say that he’s not expecting a call. That said, I don’t think it actually means anything with respect to Mitt’s chances to get the VP nod. There is absolutely no upside to Mitt saying anything other than that he’s going to be a good foot soldier and support McCain, no strings attached.

I don’t think McCain will get the nomination without Romney. Heck, he may not even get it with Romney. But, without Romney, he’s toast. Everybody knows he can’t even raise enough money to pay for his private jet. The only way money will start flowing is if Mitt is put on the ticket. Everybody seems to know that but McCain. My guess is that if that McCain continues to be this stupid, we will definately see a President Obama. What is so funny about this McCain/Huckabee ticket that people are talking about is that Huckabee can’t raise any money at all for Mac.

Mitt was on Kudlow and Co tonight (CNBC.) He looked and sounded *fantastic* and said he’s not holding his breath for a VP call, the list is long, but any Republican should be honored to be chosen. He has such c-l-a-s-s!!! It was good to see him, he is missed. I would never vote for a ticket that had Huckabee or Crist on it, cased closed.

I saw this morning’s interview with Morning Joe. Mitt looked so relaxed - not as pressured as his previous interviews were while he was on the campaign trail. He looked well-rested, smiled more and was more spontaneous. As always, it was good to see him.

KKSM, I agree w/you on the LA Times poll. I don’t think it was a valid poll. Oh well. MiTT is ahead in other VP polls.
I just wanted to add that Sen. McCain mentioned today that he has 20 possible VP candidates in mind. I’m still waiting for McCain to offer Gov Mitt Romney the VP position. I’m ‘holding’ 2 requests from the RNC asking for contributions. It will have to be Mitt as the VP before I’ll contribute…

Thanks for posting that Simon. My sister had just sent that to me and I went and voted then came on here. It seems to me that on webites that are monitored and controlled, where people can only vote once that Mitt alway walks away with it. I think the LA times poll was heavily skewed by the Huckabee crowd. Every controlled on has Mitt ahead. Well, I just watched him on Fox & Friends and he said pretty much the same thing only laughing about it. I think he is trying to say he would accept, but in his humility realizes there are others out there that could do just as good a job…. I DISAGREE!!!!

Not appearing over anxious, that’s for sure…

Overall, it too was a good interview. I have not seen all of the Morning Joe one yet but did see that part where he said he is not expecting….. Go Mitt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I watched and of course, I had hoped for something different, but then I thought about it and I thought, “what do you expect him to say on a morning show that thousands of people are tuned into???” He would have looked prety silly sitting there saying. “Oh please, please, I hope it’s me, I hope it’s me”!
