Mitt forming a PAC to help elect Republicans

The next incarnation of Mitt Romney’s political career is taking shape.

According to two Republicans with knowledge of his plans, Romney, at some point during the next few weeks, intends to establish a new political action committee to help elect Republican candidates.

“We’re thinking about what new entity can be created to allow Governor Romney to remain politically active so he can raise money and campaign for Republicans, and advocate for the issues he cares about,” Eric Fehnrstrom, Romney’s long-time aide, said in an e-mail message.

You can also expect Governor Romney to be very busy in the remainder of this year campaigning for Republican candidates up and down the ticket, starting at the top with Senator McCain.”

Fehrnstom would not elaborate.

Other Republicans close to Romney said that Romney was looking for ways to position himself as the ideas factory for the Republican party over the next four years, contributing policy to John McCain, if he’s in the White House, or to Republicans in Congress, if McCain is not.

I don’t think it’s set up yet, but if anybody finds out to the contrary, please leave a comment. Mitt can count on me for a donation.

“Ideas factory”…I love it.

Mitt might want to hang on - McCain seems awfully open to him as VP, and he seemed pretty clear that he doesn’t already have any kind of shortlist or favorite in his head.

Romney’s getting the VP spot may be a lot more likely than many people think.

  2. Phil Says:

Any PAC Mitt Romney sets up to help conservatives in the future he can certainly count on my money going to help him there! If that is not a great example of a man wanting to fight for our cause then what is??

  3. Steve Andrew Says:

I agree with you Matt. But, if McCain does not choose Mitt, it might be better to campaign with other conservatives to further improve his relation with conservatives. My guess would be that Mitt’s trying to wrangle all of the right and then on election year, try to get the independents and democrats.

  4. Doria Says:

Mitt Romney will be successful in forming the PAC. He is so gifted.
Tonight on H&C, McCain wasn’t ready to name a VP. Matt, I do hope you are right about Romney.

What a great concept and what a great way to continue to influence the party toward the values that true conservatives hold. This has fantastic written all over it.

I must have missed this post. Just read it today and I Love it!!! The idea that Romney really is here to stay is exciting (Though I always knew our man would find some way to stay in the public eye :) because he does care about our country). Oh yes, “Ideas factory” is brilliant . Knight_reign, you said it in the best way possible. I agree it does
have fantastic written all over it.
