This cartoon by IBD’s Michael Ramirez won the top prize in the 2008 John Fischetti Editorial Cartoon Competition sponsored by the Columbia College Chicago Department of Journalism. Selected from 171 works by 56 editorial cartoonists, Ramirez’s winner ran in IBD on Jan. 18, 2007. “Whether you agree with it philosophically or not,” said Ramirez, also an IBD senior editor, “a good editorial cartoon engages the reader in debate.”

  9. waboomer Says:

I am really, really dense…but I don’t get the cartoon! Obama–a large stone head in the desert. Please humor me and explain…

  10. bethtopaz Says:

waboomer - what I got from it is that barack obama is somewhat of a phenomenon and an unknown and people are going barackobananas over him.

Frankly, I don’t see the attraction at all.

But then, I am a thinking conservative republican. I don’t get the liberal democrat environmental wacko thing at all.

  11. pcombes Says:

I suspect it is a parody on Easter Island where they found the stone heads and then tried to figure out why they were there. If BARAK was there, maybe there was no reason. - P

  12. Bruce Says:

Obama doesn’t have a clue. The media put him on a magic carpet for a few weeks, and he fell off. Hillary is brutalizing him now.

I don’t think Baraak can stand up to his Chicago scrutiny, he most likely will be sucked under from some of his crooked dealings. I hope he takes his wife with him.
