McCain’s ‘Liberal’ Misstep

At a town hall meeting in Richardson, Texas, Thursday afternoon, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., made a gaffe that will surely provide myriad conservative radio talk show hosts confirmation of their views, by accidentally calling himself a liberal.
“I will conduct a respectful debate,” McCain told the crowd at Texas Instruments, per ABC News’ Bret Hovell. “Now, it will be spirited because there are stark differences. I am a proud conservative, liberal Republica— conservative Republican,” he said, catching himself. “Hello?” he said as the crowd laughed. “Easy there.”
Take two: “Let me say this: I am a proud conservative Republican and both of my possible or likely opponents today are liberal Democrats!”
Cue Limbaugh, Hannity, Ingraham, et al.

Yes, McCain bombs!
February 29th, 2008 at 5:27 pm
Pretty disingenuous correcting himself there at the end, come on McCain, you’re liberal, you know it and we know it. Wave your freak flag high…

McCain is use to reading off a teleprompter. He is a terrible speaker, when he cant read his speech.

Mitt - please save us———–
February 29th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
I can’t believe that people voted for this guy
February 29th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Eric- I can’t either, but that people vote for Obama is even more incredible. Has something been put in the water??
February 29th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
What could happen:
McCain is found to be unable to pull out of the FEC thing, he drops out and Romney comes and McCain endorses him, gives him all his delegates. Then a Romney v. Obama in Nov!

Straight from the horses mouth…

Send a message to the RNC and to Mitt by voting for Mitt in your primaries and buying Mitt stuff from the official Romney shop (still online)–

We should expect many more of these “senior moments” in the future. Obama is already polling at 50% to his 42%. It’s over before it even began.

I’m proud to say that today I finally got the opportunity to vote for Mitt Romney!! (in the Texas primary)
Now I can wear my t-shirt that says “Don’t blame me…I voted for Romney!”

wow, McCain looks awful in that picture.

Congrats Jan!! It felt great didn’t it? Please let us know where we can get one of those shirts and maybe bumper stickers too. Thanks.

Way to go, Jan - that’s a great moment and you make us proud!
This primary has season has been too, too long…
And we still have months yet ahead of McCain’s “my friends” fol-de-rol - forced through his feeble “grin-grimace” - coupled with Obama’s don’t-stop-me-I’m-on-a-rolll “preacher vernacular” where he ends the last word in each sentence with the “uh” sound… We’ve got to work togethu… We need to come togethu and get alongu… Change is comin’ to this nationu…
About mid-summer I’ll be thinkin’ it a real treat if I could just hear Romney read an encyclopedia.

Well, friends, I’m sorry to report that I made the t-shirt myself with the printable, iron-on sheets. Also put small letters around the hem of each sleeve that says “conservatism”. People ask about that if they don’t know about McCain’s reference to Judge Alido “wearing his conservatism on his sleeve”. It’s just my slightly visual rebuff to McCain. So I have to t-shirts or bumper stickers to offer, and really don’t want to go into another business right now.
What I do want to do, though, is to find out how everyday people can do something to save our country. We’re getting slammed with Obama stuff here in Texas right now and I wonder how is it that we got to the point that so many Americans are willing to “drink the kool-aid”. On the news one woman said, “I relate better to Obama” while another said, “I just feel so good listening to him.” Is that what we want in a president…someone who makes us feel good but tells us nothing and if we bothered to look at his background and read the few speeches of consequence he has given we’d know he’s going to ruin the country?
This country has been taken over by elites and political machines. It was that political machine that won for McCain in Florida and turned this race the wrong way. Now Pelosi (who got a $25 million pork barrel for her husband’s company in San Francisco) and spent millions to redecorate her office and redo the House cafeteria, won’t allow a vote on terrorist wiretapping that she knows will pass. How have we let this happen? What can we do about it?
I’m sorry to droan on, but I’m so frustrated not knowing what we regular Americans can do to rise up and stop this nonsense. Can anyone help me out here?

Jan, your t-shirt sounds great … you should send Ann Marie a picture so she can add it to the banner up top. We’d love to see it! I love the ” wearing conservatism on your sleeves” touch!

I believe within my heart, that the Republican Party has already lost 1/3 of its conservative members - permanently. They have denounced their party affiliation, either verbally, emotionally or by vote. AND WHY IS THAT?
Because the Party is the entity that has moved, not the conservatives. It’s the Party that has moved from right to left. It’s the Party that has moved from conservatism to liberalism. It’s the Party that has shifted its values from moral to immoral. It’s the Party that has left the conservatives high and dry - without a candidate to hold up the “Conservative” (not the Republican) banner.
For me, it is time to let go of the Party, before they drag me down into a liberal state! You do not go into the mire with the pigs or you will get real dirty……………
There is no way that I am going to follow this Party down this liberal road. The Party is a run-away train. I am getting off before it crashes.
I am so SICK AND TIRED of people telling me that it is imperative that I vote for McCain. McCain scares the hell out of me. More than Hillary ever did. I totally see the writing on the wall.
If I baked a pan of delicious brownies and offered you a piece, but I threw in some dog poop, would you eat it? NO. Exactly my point.

Does anyone remember when Reagan had the lousy debate against Mondale, when people were questioning if he was too old to be re-elected to the presidency in 1984. Reagan could not seem to put his thoughts into words. The next debate, Reagan came out with the line “I will not hold my opponent’s youth and inexperience against him”.
Every time I hear McCain speak, he sounds like he looks, like a crotchety old man.

RC…I agree in some respects. I just can never ever bring myself to vote for a democrat…You might say McCain is a democrat but I am starting to feel that I rather have liberal republican then Liberl Democrat Obama, Heck I might even go the Ann Coulter rout *shudders at the thought*. I don’t know though…we will have to see. Still waiting for a divine intervention with Romney coming back and McCain endorsing him and giving him all his delegates, with Huckabee dropping out and fast.
March 3rd, 2008 at 8:41 am
Sarah: Thanks, but I never said that I would vote for a Democrat. Its just that McCain scares me more than Hillary does! Who would scare you more? The wolf or the wolf in sheeps clothing?
You can actually see the wolf and know what is happening. But the wolf in sheeps clothing, you have no idea what is going to happen. It is easier to combat what you can see than what you can’t see.
My decision to whom I am going to vote for will probably come in late October. But this much I can tell you, it will NOT BE McCain. No way, no how………………..
