My husband and I are evangelical Christian conservatives who are in favor of Mitt Romney and were very disappointed when he suspended his campaign. We intensely dislike John McCain and are now in a quandary as to which way to turn. We absolutely refuse to vote for "Hildebeast" or Obama. Just what does "suspending" a campaign mean and what possible strategy is this? Also, what is wrong with Mike Huckabee? (I don't want to appear stupid, but...) What are the issue differences between Huckabee and Mitt? They seem to be very much alike... We need someone now, not just in 2012, that will stop this downward spiral America seems to be in, don't you think? If Mitt is dropping out, and we hope he is not, where are the conservatives to turn?

Ron Paul is reachig out to all Mormons. All of you that supported Romney, please read this. Mr. Paul understands how much the constitution means to the church. Prophets have often forseen the constitution hanging from a thread.

I am now inclined to support John McCain after all, after reading this post:

www.redstate.com/stories/elections/2008/texas_communists_for_obama

I guess Mr Obama seems to be far more radical than we thought.

It seems like the democratic party just gets worse and worse each election cycle. After Clinton we had Gore who took a drastic left turn from his mentor. Then Kerry who was to the far left of Gore. Now we Have Obama who could not be more of a left wing radical than he is.

Hillary is not much better of course but for other reasons. With ehr husband they are the most corrupt political couple in American History.

Neither of these 2 candidates has any business anywhere near the White House.

It seems that now McCain is the only one that can stop them. I am still not happy that we are in this situation of having to support a candidate who has looked down on us so often and who I have very little confidence that he can pull out a win. However, the alternative is many, many times worse.
Therefore I now do intend to support John McCain this november.
This support is not unconditional. He must still show seriousness that he wants to unite the party by picking either Romney or another strong conservative as his VP.
If he does not, or if he continues to betray conservative principles in the White House as he has done in the Senate then conservatives will have an obligation to challenge him in 2012.

To KV:

I am in Texas, too, and doing exactly what you're doing...looking for places where I can contribute to the elections to get conservatives in Congress. I'd love to trade notes with you, etc. but don't know how to share our information. If you'd like to talk, I'm going to take a chance because I trust the people here and give you one of my safe emails - then if you write to me, I'll give you my private email. I just don't want the Huckabubbas that frequent this site to have my real email address. You can write to me at grapeviners@airmail.net. I'm in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. Thanks! Jan

Hello everyone,

I believe that Governor Romney had a post on this board and is under the title of "CNN, MCCAIN, ROMNEY, CONSERVATISM", with post # 11. Please go there and read it. He seemed very optimistic about the future.

Miguel, don't worry, I am voting in November for my local representatives, just not for POTUS. I'm spending the next few weeks trying to find out who is running here in TX and if they're conservatives or just RINOs. I am ashamed to say that I have voted for RINOs before including Perry as my governor, but the problem was we didn't have much of a choice. He also made some promises that turned out to be just LIES like building the wall for border security. He's nothing more than a RINO and I'm so disgusted with the GOP right now. Unfortunately, this year will be the same in the POTUS category where there really is no conservative choice at all.

Jan,
I guess I am extrapolating from what Mitt said about making sure that we have someone in the white house that won't declare defeat in Iraq and bring the troops home. He specifically referred to the positions of both Clinton and Obama. I just assumed that he was suggesting that we need to elect a Republican and that will have to be John McCain. Believe me, I keep fantasizing that something might happen before the convention that would knock John McCain out and allow Mitt Romney to step back in--but those are rather uncharitable fantasies--still I am allowed.

Kathleen, where did you ever hear that Mitt has asked us to support McCain?

All I've heard Mitt say (at CPAC) is that he agrees with McCain on the war on terror (while disagreeing with him on many other things) and in order to unite the party Mitt is stepping aside. He never endorsed McCain, but rather he endorsed Conservatism. If Mitt has ever asked us to vote for McCain, will someone please correct me?

I will vote for Mitt in the upcoming Texas primary and again in the general. Not one other candidate - from either party - deserves my vote.

From VA Romney Supporter I am voting for Mitt on Tuesday Feb 12

Comments from a man that I respect:
" . . . Now, Mitt is still on the ballot in VA (for which a lot of your time and effort was spent). I have wondered and felt that perhaps now we should vote for McCain in the Primary, but upon deeper thought and consultation with some senior figures in the Romney Campaign, I feel that we should vote our feelings in this Primary, (i.e., for Mitt), but then be willing to support McCain as the Standard Bearer for the party after the primaries.

In this way, I think we support Mitt's position of consolidating strength around a single candidacy, but we also send a message to all parties, especially McCain, that we sustain the conservative principles that Mitt espouses and exemplifies. With you, I will be eager to see what role Mitt will play in the McCain candidacy. Mitt has explained that he disagrees with McCain on multiple issues, but that they are in full agreement on the need to defeat Radical Jihadism. THIS IS THE ABSOLUTELY TRANSCENDENT ISSUE that makes all of the other issues pale in comparison. If Iraq is given away, even a President Romney in 2012 could not get that back without enormous blood and treasure. Likewise, if socialized medicine is brought in, as has been promised by both Democrat candidates, you can't "undo" it for a very long time.

Thus , to repeat, it is of OVERRIDING importance for the Republican candidate to get elected, even if there are so many points of disagreement (and disgust!) we may feel about McCain. All those other points CAN be fixed later on, by Mitt, come 2012.

Your support has been critical, and is still needed. I invite you to join with me in VOTING FOR MITT in the Tuesday Presidential Primary in VA!" . . .

KV, you do have a reason to vote this November. you ahve to vote for your representative and your senator. Do not let a President Obama have a large majority in Congress. If we remain a strong minority in Congress we can block a lot of the domestic damage he might otherwise be able to do. I for one I'm not concerned about the Presidential race. I am convinced that even if we all decide to vote for McCain several times that he is still going to loose and loose badly.
And do not leave the republican party. If we all take that attitude then we will be handing the party over to the moderates/liberals. Let's stand firm through these dark times and remind everyone in 2012 that the republican party is a conservative party.

Denny, I'm a conservative first, not a Repulican. I would rather vote for a Democrat if that person was a conservative as some are. I'm not going to just vote for someone just because of the R behind their name because I've done that too many times before and it has done nothing more than getting a liberal or moderate deciding what is good for me. I don't plan on going down that route ever again. And I don't want to vote against someone, I'd rather vote FOR someone. Unless there is a conservative on the ballot, I have no reason to vote this November do I?

Kathleen. go ahead pull lever for Mitt... it would not hurt... but it will send a message to America and especially the GOP that we still believe in Mitt. Tell all of your Wisconsin friends to do the same... I plan to do the same in my state when it comes up!

A VOTE FOR MITT IS A VOTE FOR MITT!

I'm not really very sophisticated politically. I often debate with myself about the so-called conservative issues. I guess my ire isn't raised so much by McCain's positions and past stands (I find it easy to objectively see how people can differ on issues), but rather by the character of the man. I am put off by his bad language and temperament and his blatant dishonesty in the campaign. This is why I have a hard time voting for him. I find myself drawn to Obama because he seems to be a decent man. I would like to believe that any honest man would react to threats to our security in the same way as any other honest man. I know that judges are at stake, etc., but every time I think of pulling the lever for McCain, I see his smug face and condescending attitude as he repeated blatantly lies about Mitt Romney's positions. It is hard for me. I would love someone to talk me out of Obama, but I'm not sure they cold talk me out of writing in Mitt Romney even though I can see that Mitt asked us to support McCain. I look forward to more posts to help me make my decision. I live in Wisconsin and am hoping to pull the lever for Mitt here in the primaries.

I’m not really very sophisticated politically. I often debate with myself about the so-called conservative issues. I guess my ire isn’t raised so much by McCain’s positions and past stands (I find it easy to objectively see how people can differ on issues), but rather by the character of the man. I am put off by his bad language and temperament and his blatant dishonesty in the campaign. This is why I have a hard time voting for him. I find myself drawn to Obama because he seems to be a decent man. I would like to believe that any honest man would react to threats to our security in the same way as any other honest man. I know that judges are at stake, etc., but every time I think of pulling the lever for McCain, I see his smug face and condescending attitude as he repeated blatantly lies about Mitt Romney’s positions. It is hard for me. I would love someone to talk me out of Obama, but I’m not sure they cold talk me out of writing in Mitt Romney even though I can see that Mitt asked us to support McCain.
What's a Romney supporter to do?

Go out and help other conservatives to get elected - that's what.

Most likely (and I agree with those who think that Romney should not accept a VP spot if offered), we won't have a true conservative at the top of the ticket this year.

However, if we can help Conservatives get elected to Congress - especially to the Senate - we can help mitigate the damage that a liberal president (Hillary or Obama), or even a moderate Republican (McCain) could do.

I realize it's probably a bit of a stretch - but at this point - that's pretty much all we got.

Check out www.clubforgrowth.org - they support fiscally conservative candidates. You can also check out www.gopac.com - which is now headed by Micheal Steele - and is working to grow a new conservative leadership.

Personally, I am TIRED of the liberal media choosig our candidates. Romney was pushed under the rug so many times. That was very obvious. Now we are stuck with 3 liberals and one ignorant, biased candidate that quotes from the bible, while he was dissing Romney for his religion. Just makes me mad......

Denny, the problem is not that we conservatives wont support McCain in the general, at the end we will. The problem remains that McCain has no chance of winning. The idea that he is the most electable is laughble. A candidate that wins the nomination and is disliked by his base like this is in serious trouble. Specially when he will be facing a candidate that excites the opposition like no other candidate in recent years. The independants who love McCain love him because he speaks so much against republicans, when they see him out there trying to keep republicans in power that love affair will be over.
McCain's eligibility is a media invention. We conservatives realize that and we are upset because McCain is not one of us, but also because he is leading us to a likely electoral disaster come Novemeber.
McCain's candidacy is a dsperate act by a desperate party.

I just was writing another post before this one and towards the end of it, I was cut off. So I may be rewriting. You might want to see if others have had this problem. I put NOTHING past the liberals. I cannot vote for McCain. Huckabee may be better at preaching, and the Democrats/liberals I shudder to think what will happen with them in the White House. I am Mormon, and was actually shocked at the votes Huckabee got. Being a member of the> Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints/Mormons we do get a lot of criticism. But I try and take it in stride. Here is a link to how the world responded to the recent passing of our church leader. God bless, and remember good always prevails. We love you Mitt!

I thought Carl's coverage of Mitt was kind of biased, but he sure has some nice things to say about him below. That part about Mitt's staff being in high demand in the General is fascinating and makes one speculate as to what Mitt's own role will be in the coming months/years.

by Carl Cameron
Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney’s departure from the race leaves conservative voters to Mike Huckabee- who reaped the benefits in Ks and La. John McCain will increasingly win over conservatives as the party unifies, but Huckabee has several more surprises up his sleeve. Do not underestimate the HUCK!

Romney ran a text book campaign. Yes, there were plenty of mistakes and errors but they were largely minor. For the most part they did it right.

He got out to Ia and NH early and often. He staked out conservative positions and his discipline in retail politicking was unrivaled on the trail - even by the 101 town hall mtgs held by McCain. Romney could not however get over several humps. He was socially moderate only three years ago and could not shed the flipflopper image. His wealth was never a liability, it was always an asset. But his rivals were occasionally able to use it to cast him as a spoiled rich guy. More than anything voters were suspicious of Romney, too often they would actually bemoan how perfect Romney can seem.

Voters would look at Romney’s rhetoric, his record, his resume and his family and see so much success, prosperity and optimism..they would find it difficult to relate and become suspicious.

Romney’s was one of the most professional campaigns I have ever covered. His staff was excellent and will be in high demand for the general. The governor and his family are all terrific. The Romney’s are a wonderful bunch. I will miss chasing them around ….

Thanks Governor, see you at the Convention and in Iowa and New Hampshire in 4 years……;)

Yes!! of course he is thinking about it..it is not appropriate for him to discuss publicly but, he is a do-er and any smart bet is on him doing it again.

The second try seems to be working pretty well for McCain afterall….

I was thinking this morning, we should all vote for the Green Party in the general. If the party gets 5% of the vote, they are then eligible for federal matching fund and can participate in the presidential debates. The net result of this is that an upstart and funded Green Party will siphon votes away far left votes from the Democrats in 2012 when Mitt should be running again.

Denny, point well taken. My comment is primarily about the primaries. I see no reason for Mitt supporters to help either McCain or Huck in the primaries. If Huck wants to divide the party despite the war, it will represent poetic justice for McCain (per Leslie's comment).

With respect to the general election, I think that's a more complicated matter. Your commenter is probably right, but it will take some time for me to come around.

Romney's going to have some of the same problems getting elected in 2012 that he does now, due to his Mormonism. He can assume that he will lose the south in the primaries, and probably Iowa again, but there is hope elsewhere. He will have established himself by 2012 and won't be considered an upstart. McCain has a big problem on his hands with Huck right now. It seems like a done deal that Huck will be on the ticket, maybe even as the presidential nominee, but Romney will fare well in 2012 because he's showing that he can play by the rules, and that is rewarded. It's funny how McCain used Huck to leverage himself, and now Huck has become a threat. What goes around comes around! Earlier today, I thought it would be advised if Huck bowed out, but now I'm thinking he should stay in and see what happens. Mitt just may be the Kingmaker in this election, with all of those delegates he has.

Frankly, why don't all the Mitt Romney supporters FOLLOW the example of the gratious and honorable Mr. Romney himself showed us all at the CPAC meeting a few days ago? He told us that he loved his country too much to let the Democrats win in this time of war. He told us that he wanted the REPUBLICANS to win - not the Democrats like some want.

Does anybody really think that Mr. Romney did NOT mean what he said at CPAC when he suspended his bid? If he didn't, then I guess we all followed a fraud and a fake. But, if he really did mean what he said, then why are his supporters not following this brilliant man's advice now?

This is advice is from Danny Vice, who left this exquisite comment at my blog:

"Conservatives are beginning to amaze me in their inability to see what’s really at stake here. This election is about more than McCain and his inability to follow conservative principals.

"How is handing the whole country over to far left liberals a suitable alternative to McCain?

"There is a serious difference between McCain and a purebread liberal who is bent on destroying ALL conservative values permanantly.

"Today’s liberal is not like the Bill Clinton’s Presidency. It’s moved radically left… Clinton is now considered a moderated, and loosing it’s power because it’s not radically liberal enough.

"The Democratic candidate that is surging now, Obama, is bottom of the barrel liberal. He is about to take power, unless conservatives stop fighting and get serious.

"This would give liberals what they will treat as a clear sign from America that is it ready to move sharply to the left. Not slightly to the left.

"Cherry picking our candidate is exactly what got us INTO this mess, and if conservatives aren’t careful, they will allow our country spiral out of control.

"There is no such thing as a quick recovery from 4 years of radical liberalism unchecked. We may be facing what will take years and years of damage to undo. What’s more, there’s no guarantee that it WILL be undone. Have conservatives completely forgotten Roe v. Wade and other extremely important issues?

"Questioning McCain was right and highly useful for a time and a season. Many of us wish we had acted sooner to support Romney or Huck…. But staying home on election day allows liberals a pass to capture all THREE branches of Government. Our kids deserve better out of us.

"I’m not asking anyone to sacrifice their own belief or convictions, but we have a serious problem here that requires that we do everything we can to minimize the damage this election can cause to our society.

"I’d rather have 50% of McCains ear, than 0% of a liberals ear.

Give it some thought, friends."

Danny Vice

It seems to me that an important thing that all Mitt supporters need to do is to form some kind of long-lasting relationship so that we can maintain contact and be ready for 2012. Let 2008 take care of itself. change the name of this site to Elect Romney in 2012.

Was at the Washington Caucus, suprisingly I found quite a few Mitt Romney supporters...he won 17% for someone who suspended his campain..McCain got 24%..if he hadnt suspended his candidacy he would have won in my opinion! I will be going to the county convention to express my support for Mitt a true conservative.

Personally, it is better to wait than go in flames as what Huckabee is doing. Romney is now the senior in the conservative area and will be the top boss in the up and coming years.

"Mormons learned a hard lesson from the presidential campaign of Mitt Romney. The message Southern Evangelicals made loud and clear was "you are not welcome." Despite sharing substantially similar values, Mormons and Evangelicals are deeply divided on the issue of theology. To Mormons, voting for Evangelical candidates is routine. For Evangelicals, voting for a Mormon candidate is now seen as nearly heresy -- hence the reason Mormons may abandon the Republican party nominee in the upcoming November Presidential Elections."

An Evangelical's Lament
http://www.evangelicalsformitt.org/front_page/an_evangelicals_lament.php

A lament means "a cry of sorrow and grief." I am mourning with deep sadness after witnessing the outright rejection of Mitt Romney's presidential candidacy due to his Mormon faith. If the Southern Evangelicals rejected Mitt Romney, they also rejected me. Therefore, as a Latter-day Saint, I am rejected by the social conservatives in the Republican Party.

Should I vote for Obama out of anger? Should I turn my cheek and vote for McCain? Or, do nothing?

I agree with you completely David. I'm not feeling good about this year's election at all and it wouldn't bother me one bit to see a McCain/Huckabee ticket go down in flames.
I intend on voting for Mitt here in TX on March 4 as well as for my local congressmen.
In November, I will be writing in Mitt's name. I'm tired of watching the GOP move to the left. I've been so disappointed with many of the Republicans I've voted for including Bush and Perry. This year, I will only be voting for Conservatives, no more straight ticket and no more RINOs for me.

I am still so saddened by Mitt's decision to suspend his bid for the republican nominee. I have supported him since the very beginning of his campaign. I am unemployed and had to donate $25.00 a month to his campaign via my credit card. I talked with everyone I know about supporting Mitt. The guy is just plain REAL. He understands the many conservatives in America. His leadership would have made this nation great again. I just can't for the life of me understand why the media and others (talk show host) didn't get behind him from the start. I know one thing for sure...without his leadership this country will get far worse before getting better. I admired everything about him...his beautiful and sweet wife ....his five wonderful sons and his honest character. The guy was just the complete package. What a terrible loss for the United States of America!!! I just pray that Mitt will be around to fix this broken Washington/country in four years.

I agree. I will be writing Mitt Romney on my ballot on election day. I cannot vote for McCain and will not vote for the other liberals just to spite him.

I highly doubt Huck would make the VP slot. And I sure hope Romney wouldn't take it if offered (unlikely I reckon). It won't help his cause to go down in flames with McCain against the charged up Dems.

David,
If McCain offers Huck a VP, and Huck accepts it before the primary is ended, could Mitt come out and resume the rest of primary as the only conservative? If Huck accepts the VP, I would think that he sold out the conservative, and all conservatives will be rally behind Mitt. I believe that Huck is fighting for a job, not for the conservative cause. The TX's Governor, Rick Perry came out yesterday and asked Huck to drop, and he is McCain's supporter. Perry is concerned that McCain may not get the 1,191 delegates need to secure the nomination if Huck stays in the race. McCain could make any deal with Huck before the convention to secure the number he needed and to avoid a brokered convention. We will see if Huck is a true conservative or not in next a couple of months or only in few weeks.

Hi,
I've created a website like yours to help Romney supporters realize that their votes for him still count.....hopes to get a McCain-Romney ticket. We have to send a message to the GOP and McCain that the conservatives still want Romney. I think McCain will do anything to win, including changing some stances on the issues to become more conservative. Check out the site! www.unitethegop.com
Spread the word!
Thanks
