Everyone is reporting that Romney is quiting today. I can’t get C-Span’s live feed to run. Now Time is reporting that three sources say it’s true. Does anyone know if Romney’s speech has started? Is it true?
Its just been announced Mitt is dropping out according to the A.P and will run again in 2012!
I am sure he will give a great optimistic speech for the future.
Mitt want the GOP to unite and save his stature for 2012. Will be interesting to see what McCain does on VP….cause that will be the only thing that saves him from conservative boycott since McCain would only be good for a 4 year tenure.
This is truly a sad day.
We have handed the White House to the democrats.
Let’s start getting used to saying President Obama.
The good news is that no matter how badly Obama does as president, in 2012 we will have the greatest turnaround artist of our generation ready to save the nation.
We now must go into political exile for the next 4 years but determined to return stronger than ever in 2012.
We will be back.
I’m wondering if he made a deal, too, Linda, ASLguy. The McCain campaign was apparently expecting this announcement.
I just don’t know if he’s hurting his chances for 2012 by not doing as he said and “taking this to the convention.” He seemed prepared to do just that Tuesday night, and I’m quite certain he was sincere then. One has to wonder what would have convinced him to change quite suddenly. Unless there was some quite favorable bargain made with McCain, he’s hurting his ability to get to the White House, the “Reagan way,” by fighting the good fight now and being victorious in 4 years.
Paulie, his promise to stay in was before the CA returns were in. In my lifetime, every candidate stays TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY positive all the way to the end. That is all this was. It has nothing to do with his integrity or striking a deal or any of that. He is a positive person and never had any intention of deceiving any person or of pulling out.
He saw the reality and is doing what he believes is the best for America.
Vic, I don’t believe that he was intending to deceive or that he is or ever was deceiving anybody. Remember, I said that I believe he was sincere that he was intending to stay in as of Tuesday night. Maybe California is all that did change things until then, I don’t think it was just that though. A turnaround genius like Romney had to have a plan for a California loss at the time he made that speech. I think he spoke with McCain and found agreement on how to work together in some capacity. One’s first thought is VP talk, though it could just be as simple as agreeing to unite for now in order to provide a stronger front against the split Democrat field.
I firmly believe that what he decided with McCain is truly what he believes to be the best for America. I don’t trust McCain, but I do trust Romney, and if Romney is VP or a central part of the McCain campaign and/or administration, it will receive support from me that I will otherwise not give.
If McCain were to actually become POTUS, somebody will need to be around to check his horrible temper and arrogance. Frankly, it is my hope that Governor Romney will not associate himself with John McCain.
DEAR GOVERNOR ROMNEY,
I AM WRITING TO EXPRESS MY SADNESS WHEN MY HUSBAND CALLED ME FROM SAN FRANCISCO ABOUT YOUR DECISION, AND I WANT TO USE THIS BOARD TO SPEAK TO OUR FELLOW REPUBLICANS THE FOLLOWING:
1) I WISH GOVERNOR ROMNEY TO KEEP THE “ROMNEY FOR PRESIDENT DONATION FUNDS” OPEN, SO THAT WE CAN CONTINUE TO DONATE OUR MONEY WITHIN THE LIMITATION OF CAMPAIGN LAW REQUIRED (WAS $1,000/PERSON/YEAR?) FOR 2012 ELECTION.
2) I WILL NOT VOTE FOR MCCAIN AND WHOEVER WOULD BE HIS VP, BUT WILL VOTE FOR OBAMA, TO CHALLENGE THE REPUBLICAN PARTY ON THESE REASONS:
A) THE REPUBLICAN PARTY IS GETTING SMALLER AND SMALLER, BECAUSE THEY CAN’T STAND ON IT’S PRINCIPLES ON SMALL GOVERNMENT, LOWER TAX, AND ZERO TOLERANCE OF CORRUPTION. AMONG THESE 2008 REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES, HALF OF THEM ARE EITHER HAVE A CONNECTIONS WITH THE CORRUPTIONS SUCH AS GIULIANI AND HUCHABEE, OR DIRECT INVOLVED IN THE CORRUPTION IN PAST. I FEEL THAT THE REPUBLICAN PARTY IS GOING TO A WRONG DIRECTION, AND DON’T WANT TO BE A PART OF IT.
B). THE REPUBLICAN PARTY HAS VERY LOW TOLERANCE TO RACE, GENDER AND RELIGION, AND IS EXTREMELY EXCLUSIVE, WHICH HAS BEEN AND WILL BE THE MAJOR FACTOR THAT WOULD HURT THE PARTY BADLY. I RECALL THAT AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS ELECTION, MCCAIN AND HUCHABEE SPENT A GOOD CHUCK OF TIME, RESOURCES AND THEIR ENERGY TO ATTACK GOVERNOR ROMNEY’S RELIGION, AND TRIED TO DISQUALIFY HIS ELECABILITY ONLY BASE ON HIS PERSONAL FAITH. THE REPUBLICAN PARTY DOESN’T HAVE THEIR CORE VALUE ANY MORE, BUT FILL UP WITH THOSE RACISTS LIKE NEWT GINGRICH, RELIGION BIGOT LIKE HUCHABEE, AND CORRUPTIONS LIKE MCCAIN AND HIS BUDDIES.
3) JOHN MCCAIN WILL CHANGE HIS POSITION ON THE IRAQ WAR IN THE GENERAL ELECTION AND BECOME A FLIP-FLOP AGAIN. THERE ARE MORE THAN 70% OF THE GENERAL POPULATIONS IN THIS COUNTRY WHO WANT THE WAR IN IRAQ TO BE ENDED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. IN ORDER TO BE APPEALING TO THOSE PEOPLE IN GENERAL ELECTION, JOHN MCCAIN HAS TO CHANGE HIS POSITION AND MAKE PROMISE THAT HE WILL END THE WAR IN IRAQ, OTHERWISE, HE WOULD BE ABLE TO DEFEAT THE DEMOCRATS IN GENERAL ELECTION, AND GOVERNOR ROMNEY WILL NOT HAVE TO PLACE HIMSELF IN SUCH POSITION AS HE WILL NOT CONTINUE HIS CAMPAIGN.
4) I WILL NEVER MAKE ANY DONATION TO THE REPUBLICAN PARTY UNTIL 2012 IF ROMNEY COMES OUT FOR PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, BECAUSE THE REPUBLICAN PARTY HAS BEEN CORRUPTED, EXCLUSIVE AND FILL UP WITH POLITICAL JUNKERS, CORRUPTIONS AND RELIGION BIGOTS.
5) I WILL ELIMINATE ALL THE CABLE NEWS CHANNELS FROM MY TV CHANNEL PACKAGE JUST FOR SAVING AN EXTRA $20.00 TO PAY FOR MY GAS AND OR UTILITY BILLS
6) I WILL FOLLOW ALL MY DEMOCRAT FRIENDS TO VOTE FOR OBAMA, AND MAKE THE REPUBLICAN PARTY FEEL ASHAMED FOR THEIR RELIGION BIGOT AND CORRUPTIONS. I WANT TO SEND A CLEAR MESSAGE TO THE REPUBLICAN PARTY IN WASHINGTON BY VOTING FOR OBAMA AS THE PRESIDENT OF UNITED STATES, AND TO MAKE MY POINT: DEMOCRAT PARTY CAN TOLERANT A BLACK MAN TO BE THE PRESIDENT OF UNITED STATES, BUT REPUBLICAN PARTY CAN’T TOLERANT A GREAT MAN LIKE ROMNEY TO HAVE A DIFFERENT FAITH OR RELIGION. IT HAS BEEN ASHAMED FOR THE REPUBLICAN PARTY, AND IT IS ASHAMED FOR FOX NEWS AS WELL.
VOTE FOR OBAMA, AND TEACH THE REPUBLICAN PARTY THE LESSON ON WHY THEY WILL LOSS FOR THE 2008 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.

I think he made a deal with McCain. This is very suspicious indeed.

Yeah, look like McCain do anything to win the nominee. Maybe the deal he offered to Mitt is favorable.

The speech sounds like anything but giving in so far.
