Hit after hit, they’re going out of the park
February 7th, 2008 Posted in Mitt Romney
If the rumors are true, and all my efforts add up to giving Mitt the stage to make this speech, it was worth it. He’s setting the stage for conservatism for years to come, and taking up the mantle left by Reagan.
If you can, tune in now. It’s on the CNN website.

Very, very disappointing. I have tears in my eyes.
And to think that Schmukaby is still in it. What a shame.

Booing McCain’s name at CPAC ha ha
February 7th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Mitt has bowed out. Let’s all get back to the fight! We have to beat the Democrat nominee AND……. AND……. AND save 40+ seats in the Senate.
Two tasks. Two very difficult tasks. But DOABLE

So even though 7/10 Americans oppose amnesty their isn’t one person in the race who opposes it?
So republicans are now going to nominate whoever gets endorsed by the new york times and la times?
We can still hope Mitt gets VP and maybe like Roosevelt died right into his term and his vp who he despised harry truman suddenly became president during a war.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
The leaders of the GOP must have gotten to Romney and told him to stop.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
I think Ann told him to stop.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
Mitt won’t get VP. Let’s fight to get a conservative congress, that’s our best hope. McCain doesn’t have a prayer of beating Clinton or Obama. This is a sad day for conservatism and for America. However, I appreciate all of governor Romney’s efforts. Looks like its going to be a long tough slog till 2012. Time to change the blog title…
February 7th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
BTW arab invasion and al qaeda are primarily European and Israeli problems. They hate us but just want us out of they since we are standing between them and their impotent prey.
Southern invasion is our problem. Reagan gave amnesty to 3 million we now have 12 mill. In a country of 51% elections once McCain gives amnesty (right to vote and collect unemployment and social security) A republican can not get elected again to the white house.
Also unemployment and social security will bankrupt many years earlier then otherwise.
1980 3 mill
2008 12 mil
2012 20 mil
2020 50mil
Trading oil in non-us dollars and US credit rating gets downgraded (this year) We are going to financially collapse.
Then those of you who never thought you personally would compete with illegals for a job will get a taste of my medicine.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
Romney and McCain spoke together and agreed that it is best to stop. Its as simple as that. Clinton vs. Obama could go to the convention. We have an opportunity to unite now and gain an early advantage on them.
I still don’t know if I’ll vote McCain. Romney would have to be in a more pivotal role than just making a few nice campaign speeches for him.
I don’t know if this will or should become Elect Romney in 2012 blog now, either. It may need to become Elect Romney in 2010. Michigan very much needs Romney as their Governor after the damage done by Granholm.

Was that a glimpse of what a Future Mitt Romney State of the Union would be? I really hope he runs next time. What a classy guy!!!!
February 7th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
I think he should run for the “president of utah” we can secede from the union, control the borders and start selling from the worlds largest coal deposit! (that clinton blocked)
BTW wouldnt have BUSH lost both times without Utah????
February 7th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
We now have a responsibility to endure the next 4 years, but keep up the fight to prepare the nation for Mitt in 2012. We need to help our churches and communities move away from bigotry. Unchristian-like preaching against other religions is counterproductive to keeping conservative principles strong in our country. If we allow or encourage our pastors and ministers to talk badly of other religions, we prevent a future canidate like Mitt from being able to win an election. I think religious bigotry was a major factor, especially early on, in Mitt’s inability to sweep this election even though he is the BEST candidate. Let’s start working in our communities to establish multi-faith efforts to build up trust among conservative religions so this doesn’t happen again!! Let’s elect truly conservative candidates in our communities and states and for Congress. Keep up the conservative enthusiam for the next 4 years! Don’t let it die because of our disappointment today. We must keep it alive and well! MITT for 2012!!
February 7th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
This is NOT the end! End of round 1! Remember Reagan in ‘76. Mitt will be back in 2012! Better and smarter than ever.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Let the healing begin. Don’t be surprised at all that if McCain miraculously pulls off the election, that Mitt ends up Sec of Treasury, Sec of State, or some huge post. Maybe not VP, because of the South, but definitely something big. Mitt did the right thing; He is working within the party to make things better. He can’t afford to make enemies.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
I’m not sure what “suspend” means in terms of keeping or giving up delegates, anybody? I haven’t seen his speech yet, so am very handicapped.
Can people still vote for Romney in the upcoming primaries?
If not, like when Fred dropped out, then this would be very good news for Ron Paul, as I believe he is the true conservative and defender of the Constitution and advocate for liberty, and that many Mitt votes will now go to Paul.
But the controlled media will not give any recognition or time to Paul. Freedom of the press is long gone.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Did anyone else notice the life being sucked out of everyone in the room after Mitt left? The speaker kept trying to get everyone to sit down. Many looked to be walking away.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Amen to D. Stone and Wolfagain. Mitt in 2012 is the way to go!
February 7th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
Linda, Mitt has as much chance as a snowball in you know where of getting any important post in a McCain admin. McCain is an INSIDER. Romney is not. Therefore, McCain not only despises Romney, but cannot, due to his agenda, appoint a threat to the agenda.
Besides, the appointed next “king” or I should say “queen” of American is to be Hillary. This was determined 4 years ago. It was to be her or Rudy, and since Rudy didn’t work out, they got an unelectable Republican to run, only to lose to Hillary.
No way Obama gets the nod.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
By the way, here’s a great and short article about how Lincoln the Underdog Won the Brokered Convention of 1860:

February 7th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
The Huckabee campaign said the former Arkansas governor would push on.
“We’re still in the race and we’re still competing for delegates, and today demonstrates how long and windy to the White House this is,” said Chip Saltsman, Huckabee’s campaign manager.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
As far as VP, I don’t know about Crist or Giuliani. McCain needs to mend the Republican coalition with his choice of VP, and that really only leaves two options: Huckabee, to strengthen the southern evangelicals, or Romney, in the hope of gaining the support of the talk radio crowd, and economic conservatives. Crist only really delivers one state. Giuliani only enhances McCain’s problem of looking too moderate.
I don’t know if I want to see Romney as VP, or if he can position himself for 2012 without it. That may depend on what Huckabee does between now and the convention, or if McCain or Obama is the next President. Maybe, like I mentioned before, he’ll just head to the Governor’s mansion or the Senate out of Michigan.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
Huckabee will look more and more ridiculous the longer he stays in. He only appeals to evangelicals, so it’s over for him too. He would be very wise to get out now!
I still think that McCain respects Romney’s fundraising ability. The guy knows how to lay his hands on money. McCain needs that to win. I believe we will see a McCain/Romney ticket.
I believe that a lot of that animosity between Romney and McCain was posturing. Romney was McCain’s biggest foe, so he was harshest on him in debates, and vice versa. McCain needs Romney’s supporters right now. Most Huck supporters have McCain as their other choice anyway. Expect a big pay-off for Mitt in the end if McCain gets elected, if Mitt helps with the campaign and fundraises. If Mitt doesn’t play along, he will be ostracized by the McCain administration, and that’s not Mitt’s style.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
Does anyone think McCain really cares about the Republican party? Actions speak louder than words and McCain has done little or nothing in the last 8 years to show that it matters to him in the least. McCain will pick one of his buddies, they will get slaughtered in the general, we will get 4-8 years of Hillary, and hopefully Romney will come back to save us at the end. Hopefully we can take back the House and Senate but it will be an uphill battle. I’m still writing in Mitt.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Oh and you can interchange Hillary with Obama, I wasn’t making any predictions for that side of the election.
February 7th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
bigmo - I believe Obama would have a better chance of beating McCain because McCain is all about the past and Obama is all about the future. Also - a lot of skeletons in Clinton’s closet - not really any serious ones in Obama’s. As I said before, I will NEVER vote for McCain. I will write in Mitt unless it is a close race - then I am voting the dem…

Hi folks,
I’m a conservative Republican and a McCain supporter and hope to see him in the White House. I disagree with Romney on a couple of issues. But, I just want to say what admiration and respect I have for Mitt Romney. I think what Romney did was truly classy and admirable. He still a strong base of wonderful supporters (who I also have a great deal of admiration and respect for), and I think he could have continued to fight for a time. But, he put his country above his own political ambitions, and I find that truly admirable. If he runs again for a Republican nomination, I’ll give him serious consideration, if and when that time should come.
I know that there has been a battle between McCain and Romney for this spot, but if Romney would have come out as the nominee, I would have gladly thrown my support to him (Huckabee is a great speaker, but never really had a shot; this has been a two man race for a few weeks now).
I would really love to see Romney be actively involved in McCains campaign and administration. I would love to see Romney as a VP candidate or in McCain’s future cabinet down the line. I’m a Catholic and certainly have important theological differences with Romney and other Mormons. But, he is a wonderful family man, and a man of faith, and I couldn’t care less about his specific theological differences. I just want to thank all the Romney supporters for their enthusiastic support. I truly hope Romney’s ideas and the ideas of all you supporters truly take hold and make a positive change in Washington.
Sincerely,
A McCain supporter with great respect for Romney
February 7th, 2008 at 3:42 pm
Thanks, Mark. You’re a class act yourself. We differ on many things, but we all want what’s best for this country.
February 7th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Dear Governor Romney,
I am writing to express my sadness when my husband called me from San Francisco about your decision, and I want to use this board to speak to our fellow Republicans the following:
1) I wish Governor Romney to keep the “Romney for President Donation funds” open, so that we can continue to donate our money within the limitation of campaign law required (was $1,000/person/year?) for 2012 election.
2) I will not vote for McCain and whoever would be his VP, but will vote for Obama, to challenge the Republican Party on these reasons:
a) The Republican Party is getting smaller and smaller, because they can’t stand on it’s principles on small government, lower tax, and zero tolerance of corruption. Among these 2008 Republican Presidential Candidates, half of them are either have a connections with the corruptions such as Giuliani and Huchabee, or direct involved in the corruption in past. I feel that the Republican Party is going to a wrong direction, and don’t want to be a part of it.
b). The Republican Party has very low tolerance to race, gender and religion, and is extremely exclusive, which has been and will be the major factor that would hurt the party badly. I recall that at the beginning of this election, McCain and Huchabee spent a good chuck of time, resources and their energy to attack Governor Romney’s religion, and tried to disqualify his elecability only base on his personal faith. The Republican Party doesn’t have their core value any more, but fill up with those racists like Newt Gingrich, religion bigot like Huchabee, and corruptions like McCain and his buddies.
3) John McCain will change his position on the Iraq War in the General Election and become a FLIP-FLOP again. There are more than 70% of the general populations in this country who want the war in Iraq to be ended as soon as possible. In order to be appealing to those people in general election, John McCain has to change his position and make promise that he will end the war in Iraq, otherwise, he would be able to defeat the Democrats in general election, and Governor Romney will not have to place himself in such position as he will not continue his compaign.
4) I will follow all my Democrat friends to vote for Obama, and make the Republican Party feel ashamed for their religion bigot and corruptions. I want to send a clear message to the Republican Party in Washington by voting for Obama as the President of United States, and to make my point: Democrat Party can tolerant a BLACK man to be the President of United States, but Republican Party can’t tolerant a great man like Romney to have a different faith or religion. It has been ashamed for the Republican Party, and it is ashamed for Fox news as well.
VOTE FOR OBAMA, AND TEACH THE REPUBLICAN PARTY THE LESSON ON WHY THEY WILL LOSS FOR THE 2008 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.

D. Stone makes a great point,
More than anything, this serves as wake up call to tell our pastors to stop preaching hate and intolerance over the pulpit. Let’s reach out, and connect with our friends and neighbors. We all have the same values. I want my kids to be happy and safe, assured of a brighter tomorrow free from the empty promise and moral blight that spews forth from Hollywood and the media. We need to band TOGETHER next time, not pull against each other. UNITED we stand, and unfortunately this time, divided we fell.
So, that’s the real message. A little less bigotry and intolerance, a little more brotherly love. To those that will gloat on this day, the rest of us say shame on you. We will not stand for this again, so please mend your ways. We will be vocal, but kind. We will be resolute, but charitable. But we will resist religious intolerance and finally make our founding fathers proud.
To Joe,
You know, I listened to an impassioned speech by a Ron Paul supporter the other night, and he had me up till the end. He’s just a little too isolationist for my taste, and that bespeaks his naivete on international matters. So this is one Romney supporter that will not break that way, and I posit most others won’t either.

IN ORDER TO BE APPEALING TO THOSE PEOPLE IN GENERAL ELECTION, JOHN MCCAIN HAS TO CHANGE HIS POSITION AND MAKE PROMISE THAT HE WILL END THE WAR IN IRAQ, OTHERWISE, HE WOULD BE ABLE TO DEFEAT THE DEMOCRATS IN GENERAL ELECTION, AND GOVERNOR ROMNEY WILL NOT HAVE TO PLACE HIMSELF IN SUCH POSITION AS HE WILL NOT CONTINUE HIS CAMPAIGN.
4) I WILL NEVER MAKE ANY DONATION TO THE REPUBLICAN PARTY UNTIL 2012 IF ROMNEY COMES OUT FOR PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, BECAUSE THE REPUBLICAN PARTY HAS BEEN CORRUPTED, EXCLUSIVE AND FILL UP WITH POLITICAL JUNKERS, CORRUPTIONS AND RELIGION BIGOTS.
5) I WILL ELIMINATE ALL THE CABLE NEWS CHANNELS FROM MY TV CHANNEL PACKAGE JUST FOR SAVING AN EXTRA $20.00 TO PAY FOR MY GAS AND OR UTILITY BILLS
6) I WILL FOLLOW ALL MY DEMOCRAT FRIENDS TO VOTE FOR OBAMA, AND MAKE THE REPUBLICAN PARTY FEEL ASHAMED FOR THEIR RELIGION BIGOT AND CORRUPTIONS.

As a Romney supporter since 2006, I am very disappointed that he has decided to end his campaign. But I am so proud to have supported the best man in this race. Not only is he a very smart accomplished person, but more importantly he is a good, decent, and admirable man. There were times when I wished he would be more “hard fighting” during this election, but I can see how his values and principles were more important to him than politics. This just proves that he is truly a very honorable person indeed. What a great example he is to us all. I will be here if he decides to make another run in 2012 and will enthusiastically support him whole heartedly. However, I too have strong values and conservative principles that I hold dearly and I don’t think John McCain shares those same beliefs. That is why I can not and will not support him no matter who endorses him. He has not proven to me that he deserves my vote and I will for the first time since I earned my right to vote, will not vote this November.
We love you and your family Mr. Romney. God bless.
