ARIZONANS — WHY?

February 3rd, 2008 Posted in 2008, Arizona, John McCain, Mitt Romney

Those from Arizona, why is John McCain ahead in the polls in AZ?   Your state, above all other states except California, is over run with illegal aliens and McCain’s reputation as McAmnesty is now well known.    What are we missing?   Please light a fire in the grassroots levels to change that tide.

  1. Jason Says:

I think a lot of people will be in full force for Mitt on Tuesday down here in Arizona. I am hoping that we have a Nevada like voting force here. I have been out campaigning for weeks and get pretty good results.

  2. Jake Says:

New Rasmussen poll puts Mitt only 9 points down. Couple weeks ago polls were showing McCain ahead by 20+. So there’s movement. Enough to take it? We’ll see.

  3. Ken Says:

It is possible that the average hispanic voter (a large group in Arizona) is siding with McAmnesty. If you look at Florida this also happened (esp. in Miami). I would hope that our fellow hispanic conservatives would rally around Mitt as illegal immigration is bad for them as much as anyone else in our great nation.

I would suggest more effort reaching out to the hispanic community. They (like many others) need to be educated that Mitt is the right choice for all conservatives.

  4. Linda Says:

The only way Mitt can win this thing is to take it to the convention. Then let republicans decide who the winner should be, not Time, not Newsweek, not NBC, CBS, FOX, or CNN. If republicans are dumb enough to just follow the herd, then they get what they deserve: lose in November.

  5. Michael Says:

The average voter knows nothing of his record. They go with the pundits and talking heads. I’m getting so frustrated that there is no analysis of his record and the impact it would have on our economy and country. The McCain-Lieberman bill is just one example and is a pivot-point with most I speak to. Very few know the details and the 50 cents per gallon tax on gas and a significant increase in their electric bill to boot. Many don’t understand why this hasn’t been covered by the media and it pushes them towards Mitt.

The John “tax on gas” McCain moniker is working–we just need more enlightened souls to help spread the word.

  6. S Clark Says:

We are working hard, getting out in our communities, posting up signs, college students are going to support Mitt at the Superbowl in Glendale. Rallying in Mesa- it’s a real grassroots push. People are putting their own time and money into making Romney signs around the valley, printing up our own flyers. Sherrif joe Arpaio continues to whole heartedly support Mitt, giving great speeches at rallies and block parties.

I don’t know about the big polls, but one informal poll of AZRepublican Women had Mitt Romney overwhelmingly in the lead, McCain had only a tiny fraction of the vote(especially now that much support has come from former Fred supporters). That said, McCain has a tight hold on all our local media. We do have a large hispanic presence, but how many of them will be able to vote without a valid drivers license or identification? Do the polls take that into account?

Please, call your friends and family in Arizona and get them to the polls 2/5!!

  7. Brian Says:

Just remember the Keating 5 and the failed Lincoln Savings and Loan.

  8. Mit 10 Says:

Thank you S CLARK- I just get chills when I feel the urgency coming from Mitt Romney supporters and I am so grateful for all that is being done.

I would love to see Mitt Romney win ARIZONA. The media would have to talk about that one. I was so surprised to hear that Arizona was supporting McCain because I know illegal immigration hurts hispanics also. I hope illegals can’t cheat and vote. Maybe with all the hard work Romney can close the gap. Thank you!!!!!!!!!

  9. Neal Jones Says:

My sister in Sierra Vista (south of Tucson–10 miles from the border) said they and others spent part of Saturday knocking doors in support of Mitt.

  10. Vic Lundquist Says:

For the life of me, I don’t understand how any Arizonan would be willing to vote for this guy.

  11. Frozone Says:

Why do they vote for him? One word: autopilot.

Many others are buying the line that only he can beat Hillary/Obama. The real story is only he makes that matchup competitive, as many will be conflicted over which liberal to choose (like so many flavors of vanilla ice cream).

Only Romney, the only non-washington-senator-insider offers a real choice. And when you compare resumes with the other three, will blow them all away.

Go Team Mitt!! Keep up the great work in AZ!!

  12. Ken Says:

I called some relatives in Mesa. They have voted for Mitt (early voting). They are also working hard to get others out to vote for Mitt. They said from their perspective it looks great (meaning everyone they talked to is voting for Romney).

Ohhhh lets hope through our efforts we can pull this off!

  13. John Says:

Vic, the following is from today in Illinois. What are they talking about and do we need to spread this story around before Tuesday?
But Romney did take one pass on attacking McCain - when asked if he had any comments about charges reported by the New York Times of an improper relationship between the senator and lobbyist, Romney said only: “I have no information about that whatsoever and so don’t have any comment on it. Not familiar with the circumstances at all.”

  14. Jim Says:

Pipe down Vic. Lots of people are at work here in AZ. I was out with a large group on Saturday putting up signs and holding them at intersections. We have also been making phone calls relentlessly. We’re on fire out here. Are you?

  15. Jim Says:

I mean ‘pipe down’ in a nice way :) Look, we’re doing a lot down here and I think we could pull this one out. Mitt is going to need a lot of nice surprises on Super Tuesday to pull even with McCain and I think that AZ is a good candidate.

  16. John Says:

Jim, Vic is just trying to get everyone fired up. How great would it be to have Mitt beat McCain in his home state? It sounds like it is getting tight out there. Thank you for all you are doing! Don’t give up, you will have plenty of time to rest after Tuesday. Then it is back to work for Romney to win in November. THANK YOU ARIZONA!

  17. John Says:

Is Romney going to make a stop in Zona?

  18. Mit 10 Says:

Hey Jim Thank you! I would love to see Mitt will Arizona. That would be priceless!

  19. Paulie Says:

I don’t think the question should be “Why is McCain leading in Arizona?” It should be “Why is he only leading by 9 in Arizona?” A candidate’s home state should not be even remotely competitive in a primary. The fact that Romney is even this close indicates that McCain hasn’t exactly done right by the people of his home state, particularly regarding the issue of immigration. Compare to Massachusetts, where Romney leads by more than 20.

  20. Vic Lundquist Says:

Jim, no worries. I did not at all mean to diminish your efforts or those of any worker. I apologize if you inferred something from my note.

I add my gratitude to that of others that have left comments along with many readers who have not. You guys in AZ are awesome! The news that would hit the MSM if GMR beat McCain in his own turf would be huge.

Everybody is working very hard right now. I literally was working all night last night until 4:30am then was back at it at 10:30 this morning.

Thanks to all in AZ who see this. Please tell the others who don’t visit the site there in AZ THANK YOU.

Big rally Tuesday night at GMR HQ in San Diego. Lots of work before that.

  21. Dan Says:

Here’s the ugly truth about McCain’s record:

-IMMIGRATION: he wrote the bill granting amnesty to illegal immigrants (co-sponsored by Ted Kennedy)
-SOCIAL SECURITY: he voted to give your social security money to illegal immigrants
-TAXES: he voted against the Bush tax cuts multiple times (he has since flip-flopped and has campaigned as a lifelong tax-cutter)
-RHETORIC: he routinely engages in Democratic class warfare against big companies in America, particularly the “evil” drug companies who research cures to debilitating diseases for a profit
-ECONOMY: as recently as December 2007 he admitted “he does not know the economy very well” and needed to get better at it
-1ST AMENDMENT: he wrote the McCain-Feingold campaign finance bill that was declared to be an unconstitutional infringement of the 1st Amendment (co-sponsored by ultra-liberal Democrat Russ Feingold)
-2ND AMENDMENT: he was called the “worst 2nd amendment candidate” by the president of the NRA
-EQUAL PROTECTION: lifelong supporter of affirmative action
-ENERGY TAX: wrote a bill (co-sponsored by his buddy Lieberman) imposing a massive tax on energy which, according to the Department of Energy, would drastically raise the price of gasoline and put 300,000 Americans out of work
-GLOBAL WARMING: supports radical global warming legislation which involved him voting with every Democrat; think only America is responsible to take action, not other superpowers
-JUDGES: he joined forces with Democrats (Gang of 14) to block the Senate Republican’s attempt to confirm conservative, strict constructionist judges; also said Alito was too conservative for his liking
-WAR ON TERROR: fought with Hillary Clinton to demand that terrorists be given a full American trial
-GAY MARRIAGE: he joined liberals to fight against a federal marriage amendment supporting the institution of traditional marriage
-CHRISTIANS: campaigning in 2000, he famously described Christian leaders as “agents of intolerance”
-PRO-LIFE: he filed an amicus brief against pro-life advocates in Wisconsin
-BI-PARTISANSHIP: he met with leading Democrats in 2004 to discuss the possibility of being John Kerry’s Vice-President; publicly considered leaving the Republican Party in 2001 after he lost the primary
-INTELLECT: finished 894 out of 899 in his class in the Naval Academy.
-PROFESSIONAL ETHICS: ringleader of the infamous Keating 5 ethical scandal which cost US tax payers $160 billion (Google it)
-PERSONAL ETHICS: McCain cheated on his first wife after she had a severe accident that left her partially disabled. He then divorced her and married his multi-millionaire mistress, whose daddy bought McCain a spot in the Congress

  22. Gail Evans Says:

I can’t tell you how hard so many people are working here. I’ve been going door-to-door and making phone calls and putting up signs. I’ve had good response and some that I’ve talked to have said they are changing from McCain and Paul to Romney. I wish we could have started earlier, but there hasn’t really been an organized campaign headquarters. The grassroots efforts have really taken off the last two to three weeks. One problem I’ve seen is that early ballots have been sent in and people voted without really taking too much time to get informed. Now that so much has come out about McCain, they’re regretting their vote. I’m still very hopeful though because a lot of people just plain don’t like McCain.

  23. Mit 10 Says:

Oh Gail I hope Arizona ‘flips’ for Romney. He needs a resounding win. I had some people in Florida who voted early for Rudy and wished they had voted for Romney.
