Rally To Romney!!

February 2nd, 2008 Posted in John McCain

I’m getting a sense of way too much “resignation” among some online Mitt supporters. In the last few days Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, and Rick Santorum have all endorsed Romney and said that they would be voting for him. Although I wish these endorsements came earlier, it’s clear that Romney is the conservative alternative to McCain (despite McCain’s ads recently that call him “The True Conservative” . . . I spit out my milk when I heard that line).

I will also go on the record (again) that, should he become the nominee, I will not vote for McCain and will not encourage anyone else to vote for him either (probably not even if Romney is his VP). There are several reasons for this:

1) McCain lied about Romney’s record on Iraq saying that Romney favored a “timetable for withdrawl like the Democrats.” I’ve detailed the more-than-copious evidence that this is an outright and blatant lie here. I don’t want, and we don’t need, a liar as our nominee.

2) McCain has made quite a practice of “poking his finger in the eye” of conservatives. I’m guessing that he’s man enough to realize and understand that many/most of us feel like returning the favor.

3) If McCain is the nominee, it’s clear that, regardless which party wins, our country will have a President to the left of Bush. I don’t want the GOP (and, by extension, conservatism) blamed for the ensuing mess of taking our country more to the left. Let the Democrats take the full blame of getting what they’re asking for. That could be the best thing in the long run for the GOP and for conservatism.

Granted, I still am fighting and working to make sure that Romney is our nominee and not McCain. I would LOVE to be able to vote for the GOP nominee. We must all Rally to Romney!! He’ll be the best President of anyone still in the game. His competence and leadership are unrivaled. People just need to wake up and realize it.

    Jeff,

What you think if Romney make a deal with Huck right now to consolidate the conservative’s base? If Romney and Huck are united, we can win. As long as Romney win the nomination, who cares about the VP?

  2. Michael Says:

I’m still hoping we get a good chunk of delegates Tuesday, if we do, we still have hope going forward. I think you’ll see things start to turn in the polls by Tuesday as some are starting to get McCain fatigue and we get some Rudy & Huck supporters to swing our way. We have to get and keep the focus on McCain’s liberal legislation and ask is this the leadership you want?

I just e-mailed Bill O’Reilly @ fox news asking him to do a piece on the McCain-Lieberman Bill. We need to e-mail all the news and business channels asking them to analyze this bill and ask them to report ‘What effects would there be on our slowing economy if we add taxes and surcharges on gasoline and electricity”?

  3. Ron Says:

I do believe McCain has thumbed his nose at many conservative issues over the years, but, please review the changes to Mitt’s view on many issues. He has only recently espoused many of the values conservatives hold dear. Even if Mitt has truly come over from the other side on those issues, I am not ready to vote for him just yet. Let me see him follow those principles for more than a couple years so I know he hasn’t just changed to get ellected. I have a hard time believing people like Sean Hannity and Laura Ingram give Mitt such an easy pass when they never do that to other candidates.

  4. bigmo Says:

Is there enough time for Conservatives United to air more ads before super Tuesday? If anyone has maxed out to Romney, they might consider donating to them, they are airing Anti McCain ads. I don’t know much about the group but that much I like.

  5. sara Says:

I’m not giving up!! I felt disheartened after Florida but once I saw the Simi Valley debate I knew there was hope! Romney is close in MANY of the Super Tuesday states and I think it will be very close…

  6. Steven Says:

Huckabee is a populist ad wouldn’t align with Romney. In any case Romney is clearly surging and it will be interesting to see who else comes out and endorses him. Newt Gingrich could help alot in GA , for that matter nationally and state Senator Tom McClintock of CA who earlier endorsed Thompson, would help a great deal in CA. In any case the states to watch are Missouri, California, Georgia, Minnesota, West Virginia, and Colorado. An analysis of the dynamics of the race in those states would be welcomed. In any case, the goal for Romney is to win as many delegates as he can (obviously), win CA, and of paramount, give Huckabee no reason to continue on so Romney can fully consolidate the conservative vote. All these aims are achievable given the push back against a McCain candidacy from the grassroots. Grassroot movement to Romney is palpable, the only question is whether it has come too late as you asked about the endorsements.

  7. sam211 Says:

I was just telling my wife this morning that I may well sit this one out if McCain gets the nod. But, that would be very hard to do if Hillary is the Dem candidate. Romney is the real standard bearer for Conservatism at this point.

  8. Michael Says:

McCain fatigue will set in!–he’s not a likeable person as many saw in the debate, he came across as pompous and arrogant. People like this always fade–McCain has peaked in the polls—there’s still hope!

  9. John S. Maine Says:

I just left my Caucus in Phippsburg held at the County Level in West Bath, ME. Romney won my town by 70% to McCain 10% Paul % and undecided 10%. Romney won every town in my county except one

Romney + 9 Towns of Sagadahoc County
McCain = 1 Town in Sagadahoc County

I also met and spoke with Tag Romney. He spoke at the Caucus and was great! Rino Susan Collins spoke and didnt dare utter one word about John McCain as the school gym was filled with 90% Romney Supporters including myself, wife and oldest daughter. There was no representation from the John McCain camp, no speakers for him at all. There was one fellow who spoke for Ron Paul he was “different”. Great overall expeience and Mitt won hands down.

  10. John S. Maine Says:

Can you do a new post with an update on Maine going Romney!

  11. Ferreira Says:

Romney is not flagging! I’ve been pleasantly reassured when talking to many friends this week that Romney is hands down their choice. I’m talking with all my friends here in CA to make the case for Mitt.

  12. SED Says:

If Romney can get 300 - 350 delagates on Tuesday, we’ve got a good shot to win this delagate race.

  13. Miguel Says:

We should not be discouraged, no need. Romney is going to get enough delegates this tuesday to keep going. McCain will likely remain in the lead with delegates, but not out of reach. Next saturday comes Kansas and I think Romney has a shot there to win with the conservative support he is getting. So a week from today after he wins Kansas will be talking about a Romney comeback. And if McCain has enough cash to keep going.
The Fox news poll yestarday was discouraging. But it was a poll of registered voters rather than likely voters, which makes it a bad poll. Ramsunssen has Romney and McCain tied nationally. If you remembber before FL Romney was up by 2. since then McCain has picked up some momentum and some of Rudy’s followers and the best he has done is tie with Romney. I think that is because conservatives now are moving to Romney. We will see.
Finally I also agree that if McCain is the nominee I can not vote for him. The democrats will win, he is a bad candidate and the Republican party will have noone to blame but itself. They will be putting us in the situation that the only way to defeat the politician I dislike the most (Clinton) I have to vote for the one I dislike the second most (McCain). I can not do that, because to do it I will be saying that winning at any cost is more important to me that my conservative principles. That will mean to me that I am no better than the Clintons.

  14. CT Says:

Fox News is reporting Maine caucuas early counts Romeny 59% McCain 18% Huck 2% the interesting point is most counties are reporting they have not had this kind of turn out since 1980 when Ronald Reagan won the GOP. Have faith guys ..some people will not vote for a LIAR anytime. Hope this motivates people to get out and vote on Tuesday.

  15. Linda Says:

    Helen,
Huck has already made it clear he is in this thing for McCain, not Romney. There is no way he would be involved with Romney for VP. I’m almost 100% sure.

  16. Simon Feuz Says:

As I commented before if McCain pulls it out, I will not vote for him or any Democrat… There is always the write in option (For Mitt of course). At worst case, I would leave the President blank.

  17. Miguel Says:

The is a great post in NRO from Mark Levin. Everyone that dares call McCain a Reagan conservative should have to read it.

Reagan Challenged His Party from the Right. McCain Challenges His Party from the Left. [Mark R. Levin]

  18. Alyssa Says:

I’m not giving up hope on Mitt! Though it seems so much is stacked against him at this point, we must believe that good will overcome!

I was thinking about the media’s disgusting role in all of this today, listening to the broadcasts go on and on about the latest “polls” (of course, they show the ones that give McCain the largest lead), and always focusing on Romney’s $. IF McCain gets the nomination, the biggest flip flop ever will be in the media. They will turn on McCain in a second! They fail to cover the problems with McCain now, but once their work is done fooling the ignorant Repub voters, they’ll move into major anti-McCain mode. It’s all a part of their master plan to get Obama elected, but they’ll settle for Hillary. They have so much to use against McCain, I wouldn’t even know where to begin. They are saving up the worst…esp. his recent quotes on many more wars. Those liberals will freak out when they hear that. McCain will be stomped in the election.

However, that being said, I’m still hoping and praying for Romney, everyone else in my family is doing the same! Mitt is GOOD, and Mitt will overcome!

  19. Linda Says:

Alyssa, I agree with you. The media will turn on McCain the day he secures the nomination. There is sooooooo much dirt on this guy that they haven’t touched. An Obama/McCain race will be highly advantageous for the democrats. It will be such a joy to watch McCain slink away, and all the republicans who gave him the nomination should feel ashamed of themselves.

  20. Deborah Stapley Says:

And, to the points of so many. . . I hope that if McCain does win the nomination, that the Liberal media DOES turn on him. I would much rather that a self-proclaimed liberal mess up the country than a liberal in republican sheep’s clothing. But, I must say, that I do not think all is lost — not by a long stretch! We have been making calls for Mitt at our house all day today, and we have found SO MUCH ENTHUSIASM AND SUPPORT FOR MITT! I am encouraged.

My feeling is that America is waking up — and just in the nick of time! I just hope that the polite, silent majority will not only wake up in time, but speak up in time. I was at a jog-a-thon at my son’s elementary school yesterday. I proudly drove in, with my car slathered in bumper stickers, wearing my Mitt t-shirt. I jogged around the track a couple of times for advertising purposes and wondered if I would get any kind of response. I was encouraged that so many people expressed their support of Mitt to me. But, I was somewhat discouraged with the manner in which they offered their support. It was very quiet — even hushed, as if they were afraid of what others might think of them.

LISTEN, AMERICA! NOW IS THE TIME TO STAND FOR SOMETHING. NOT QUIETLY, BUT LOUD AND CLEAR. NOT RUDELY, BUT WITH CONVICTION. We can’t let the louder liberal-minded people of our party and the even louder liberals in the democrat party hi-jack the republican name and redefine who we are and what we stand for.

We can do it. We must do it. And, we must do it NOW.

  21. Boats Says:

It will not happen overnight, however the MSM will turn on McCain. They simply don’t want to make it to obvious, don’t think for a second they haven’t thought this thing through. Secondly however, I do believe they will definitely IMMEDIATELY begin a subtle campaign against the republican conservative and the conservative point of view in general. Asking the question is “conservatism” dead in America? All this while touting McCain as a “reagan conservative”. If the Romney campaign should end just following super tuesday, there will be a call to “coronate” the “new” american conservative. The question is, what will the true conservatives now do? Vote their integrity and write in Romney, knuckle to the pressure and throw in with McCain, or stay home? Fact of the matter is, the GOP/RNC has pretty much alienated conservatives, for whatever reason. On a side note, anyone heard ANYTHING at all wrt the shenanigans down and florida? With the illegal immigrants favorite governor in florida “overseeing” this problem, I’m betting even if the independents were allowed to register as repub’s in the primary, it will never hit the airways or be dismissed.

  22. Helen Says:

    Linda,
I realized this. Newt Gingrich made his analysis on Hannity & Colmes couple of days ago, and he said that Huck will stay in the race to the end; because there are some needs of balancing the power… I figured that Newt might be behind Huck as a religion right and wanted to share power because Romney’s religion? I have never felt that Huck has any qualification or whatsoever to be a VP, but is a similar guy like Clinton with a different party label. I only wish Romney to win if any compromise is needed within the Republican Party.

  23. braddahmike Says:

I just got back after making calls for Mitt for over 3 hours here in Temecula, CA. There were a few volunteers when I got there but quite a few were calling by the time I left. We had The Rev. Lou Sheldon drop by during lunch to speak to everyone and give the volunteers a pep talk and answer any questions. I only spoke with one man who was voting with McCain. He let me talk about Mitt and even talk about the reasons why I thought he was better than McCain…but it came down for one issue..he was a POW. That trumps all other issues. But he was nice and I was grateful he at least let me say my peace and wish him well. I had probably 6 or 7 undecided and 14 or 15 that were for Mitt. Very good news. One caller said he was listening to the talk radio show “Jon and Ken” last night and convinced him. For those that don’t know what that radio show is, it’s a SoCal AM radio show that discusses California issues/Politics and their pretty sarcastic and hardnosed guys. The interviewed Mitt and were gushing about supporting him afterwords.

I am glad I went. I met a few of the volunteers that were there who were Evangelicals and who are sick to death about McCain and even the Huckster. Good group of people. California could be huge…if Mitt wins…it could at least send a message. Texas looks good and who knows, you never know.

  24. Robert D. Porter Says:

The expectations game the the MSM is playing for McCain in November is very similar to the football gag in Peanuts. Lucy (MSM) tells Charlie Brown (Republican conservatives) to kick the ball (vote for McCain to win in November). Of course, we all know that Lucy (the MSM) will pull the ball away before Charlie Brown (Republicans) can kick the ball for the win.

John McCain is a horrible candidate and the day he wins the Republican nomination is the day the MSM/ liberals will tear into the man. They will play his scary statement from Florida promising more wars. They will repeat his statement that he knows nothing about economics ad nauseum. They will amplify any concern about McCain’s age from any anonymous source. They will ask why McCain has never developed a credible health care plan during all of his time in Washington. They will ask why McCain did not stop Bush from initiating the war in Iraq (especially if Obama is the candidate). They will ask why McCain did not insist on better armor for the troops at the beginning of conflict. They will question why McCain will want to make the tax cuts permanent when he is on record opposing them. (On the tax question, McCain will be attacked for busting the budget and favoring the rich.) They will get around to McCain’s deception, made worse by his hypocritical ’straight talk’ mantra. They will point out the countless lobbyists at McCain’s elbow, made worse by the hypocracy of McCain’s crusade aqainst influence in politics. They will point out his short temper and intemperate remarks. They will point out how badly McCain fares in debate. The MSM has their own ‘time table’ for withdrawal from the McCain love fest. And that time will be the day that McCain secures the nomination.

  25. Robert D. Porter Says:

There has n-e-v-e-r been a US senator who has won the presidency when his party has controlled the White House. Benjamin Harrison, Warren G. Harding and John F. Kennedy are the only senators to win the presidency, but in each case the opposition party controlled the White House. Furthermore, Harrison and Kennedy won by razor thin margins. It is ironic that practically every senator believes he could and/ or should be president, but only three have captured the prize.

I am a history teacher and I see an interesting parallel between the 1920 election and the 2008 election. The only senator in US history to win the presidency by a comfortable margin was Warren G. Harding. Harding was an affable man who spoke in platitudes. (He very much resembles Barack Obama in that respect.) America in 1920 was at a crossroads with repect to foreign policy (similar to 2008) and had serious doubts about the incumbent president. The American economy in 1920 was also reeling from bad policy and post-war disruptions. It was a perfect year for the party out of power and Harding was the beneficiary.

This year, the only way for the Republicans to win is with an outsider like Mitt Romney. Romney is the only viable candidate in the race who is a governor. He is the only one who can go after Washington politicians. He is the only candidate with the private sector and executive experience to turn things around in Washington. He goes into every debate with a natural advantage. He is the liberals worst nightmare and that is why they are trying to secure the nomination for McCain.

    Saturday, Feb 02, 2008
    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
    CONTACT: Kevin Madden (857) 288-6390
Boston, MA – Throughout the state of Maine, people have gathered at their local caucus site over the last two days and cast their vote for conservative change in Washington. With only a few caucus sites left to report tomorrow, Governor Romney issued the following statement concerning his victory in Maine:

‘Today, the people of Maine joined those from across the nation in casting their vote for conservative change in Washington. All across the state, men and women gathered to help chart the future course of our country. Tonight, they have made their voice known and have endorsed our conservative vision for a stronger America. Like many Americans, the people of Maine are tired of Washington promises made but broken.

‘The need for change in Washington is even more apparent today. With our economy facing uncertain times, we need a leader who actually understands how the economy works and how jobs are created. We also need a leader from outside of Washington who is ready to meet the long-term challenges facing our country. With a career spent working in the economy, creating jobs, turning around faltering institutions and imposing fiscal discipline, I am ready to bring conservative change to Washington. In this campaign, I am proud to have the support of the people of Maine.’”

“Never give in — never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”

    – Winston Churchill, 29 October 1941

Our enemy right now is the Liberal MSM and the Liberal wing of the Republican Party.

We cannot let them shove “their candidate for the GOP nominee” down our collective throats.

We must work hard to get Mitt the nomination!

Oh, one more thing, McCain said that he’d like to see the interest rate be 0%.

0%? Uh, Senator McCain, would you like to tell all your senior citizen supporters that? Would you like to tell them that you would like to see the income from their 401k’s become almost nothing?

The Arizona Senator clearly has no clue when it comes to the economy.

Rush said a few days ago that if McCain got the GOP Nomination, you would start hearing from the MSM things like: “Gee, I hate to say this, McCain is a war hero and all, but he is pretty old, and he’s been sick, and haven’t you noticed that he’s had considerable trouble remembering things that he said as recently as a few weeks ago - maybe he’s getting senile.”

There will be other damning things, of course, but they will turn and attack him so fast, he will not know what hit him.

Personally, I think he’s in the initial stages of Altzheimers. Either that or he is lying.

Why? He said he didn’t know much about the economy. When confronted with that statement at the debate, he said he never made that statement and didn’t know where it came from!!!!

    Say again, Senator?

Anyway, there is much reason to have HOPE for Mitt!!!!

    Go Mitt!

I’ll be calling from home tomorrow and Monday night from a GOTV site in Davis!

    It’s McCain or Romney…
We need Huckabee supporters. I’ve been putting something like this on Huckabee sites not to try and annoy but to persuade. Feel free to add links, edit the content etc and get it out there to Huckabee supporters. They need to know that the true conservative voices are speaking and they are speaking for Romney!

    Rally for Romney—Please Read!
Huckabee supporters this is not an attack of any kind. I don’t mean to be negative against your candidate of choice nor be an agitator on your sites. If you are a Huckabee supporter you are most likely a believer of conservative values. The time has come that you choose between conservatism and liberalism. Many of the voices of this movement are loud in clear in saying that a vote for Huckabee is a vote for McCain. (Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, Levin, Hugh Hewitt, Santorum, Ingraham etc) Let’s put all differences aside, especially if they be Romney’s religion, and move forward conservatively. McCain will not help us do that and this country needs conservatism!!!
With your support the conservative vote would be largely behind Romney instead of being split. It is most definitely not been for McCain and will never be if all of you stand with Romney. The only person that benefits from us conservatives splitting our voting power is John McCain. We all know what John McCain stands for, liberalism.
If your hesitation or out and out defiance for voting for Romney is his religion, please try to overcome it. Romney will not be controlled by the LDS Church. You don’t have to accept the various beliefs Mormonism, talk with the Mormon Missionaries, or even accept them as Christian. But for the sake of conservatism Romney needs your vote. We all know what will happen if McCain is our nominee against the Dems, either way we get a liberal POTUS for the next 8 years! United we stand, divided we fall. The choice is yours: Huckabee=McCain or Romney.

    (”Sean Hannity Radio Show,” 1/31/08)
There are plenty more conservative leaders out there saying that it is Romney or McCain.

  30. LeEric Says:

    Yes!

Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska has joined Lt Governor Parnell on being on board with Mitt Romney!

  31. Linda Says:

Look, we all know McCain is too old. He’s falling apart before our eyes. In these debates and televised events they put so much make-up on him, and light him just so, so that people won’t realize how battered up he really is. I think he’s also crippled up pretty bad and has skin cancer to boot. I read somewhere that he can’t even dress himself in the morning. He’s the embodiment of the saying: “Old soldiers never die, they just fade away.” The bottom line is, if republicans are just too dumb to nominate Mitt, they deserve what they get in November.

  33. Kelton Larsen Says:

Lars Larson has also come and endorsed Mitt Romney. I have been with Rush since the start. Rush needs to come out monday and endorse Romney. Although we know he will vote for Romeny he needs to come out and say it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also think McCain is a little mental. I don’t think he is all there. My brother lives in Arizona and wonders the same thing. I know he is old but I wonder if he is a little wack-o. America needs a miracle on tuesday. I believe in miracles do you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  34. Mit 10 Says:

    Attention Kelton Larson,

Do you know why more people in Arizona are not turning away from McCain? I heard the people there were frustrated with illegal immigration and I thought they would not want to support McCain. I was surprised when I learned that Mitt Romney did not have a chance in Arizona.
