Definitely some compelling arguments against McCain. This is just my opinion, but I was thinking you might want to change the name to “John McNasty” instead of its current form. People might construe that as a shot at hispanic people, though I know it isn’t meant to be.

  2. Ross Says:

Under the category of Electability, include the fact that John McCain was one of five U.S. Senators targeted by a Senate Ethics Committee investigation in the Keating Five Scandal. The other four Senators accused were Democrats. Even in alliances of unethical behavior, McCain sides with the Democrats.

  3. Michael Says:

Speaking of unethical behavoir, does anyone know if there was a complaint filed in Florida alleging that there were ~ 300,000 so-called independents who cast votes?

  4. bethtopaz Says:

Michael, I do believe that independents were forced to take an “R” or “D” ballot. This would have led to many voting for McCain — how else could he have won?

It should be investigated because such acts (and the precinct workers were told they were to do this [by whom?]) are illegal and would make the Republican outcome invalid.

  5. Doug Says:

Michael and bethtopaz - please see the following comment I posted that I found regarding the Independent voting in Florida and then a comment posted by Frozone. This information has also been passed on to Michelle Malkin. This information can also be found on this site by going under older posts under the title: Conservative Sean Hannity Endorses Governor Romney

A reader at View from the Right says the following about Florida. I wonder if it’s true that there is an investigation going on that an alleged over 300,000 votes are illegal:

I just got off the phone with the man in my county who is the assistant supervisor for operations re the primary. I told him I was a registered Republican voter here and asked about the CNN website stating 17% of the voters in the Republican primary were Independents. I was quite surprised at the details he went into with the numbers with me, but here goes:

He stated that they received a statewide email Wednesday morning about allegations that over 300,000 votes were made by Independents who were NOT registered as Republicans. The Secretary of State of Florida is aware of this and it is being investigated. The man I spoke with reiterated that this is illegal. He said he thought the counties were in South Florida, and Broward was the one name he remembered. He said the numbers were either 314,000 or 341,000. In Florida, you have to sign in and you have to show ID, so they should be able to check the books about what happened.

This is my own bias, but I wouldn’t be surprised at anything that happened in Southeast Florida.

I asked him about any follow up in the news and he said he would call me if he heard anything else. Again, I was surprised he told me this much on the telephone, as this is going to be a huge scandal if anything comes of it. This is the Secretary of State page if you would like to do any follow up yourself.

About the Florida fiasco, here’s the link to the Director of the Division of Elections feedback form:

    http://election.dos.state.fl.us/contactus/emailForm.shtml

    Here’s my contribution:

To the Director of the Florida Division of Elections,

As many of us watched the returns last Tuesday, we couldn’t help but notice the number of independents that claimed they voted for McCain. Since this is legitimate, as long as they’ve registered party affiliation before Dec 31st, we didn’t think much of it, at first. Then we saw the exit poll interview with the voter that did not switch affiliation, and was encouraged by a poll worker to take and cast vote with a Republican ballot even though he IDENTIFIED himself as an unaffiliated Independent.

This is outrageous! We lived and voted in Florida during the 2000 election, and would have hoped that you would have shown some signs of improvement since then.

We demand that you acknowledge this problem, and give an accounting to the breadth and scale of the fraudulently cast votes. It is unconscionable that you would allow one candidate to claim victory when there is the very real possibly that the outcome is in question (2000 all over again, but at least then you didn’t certify a victor). We will encourage the Republican committee to reserve the awarding of Florida’s delegates until this matter is investigated and resolved, but we expect that you will take this matter seriously and be transparent in your immediate scrutiny of this matter.

We will be expecting a reply.

    Thank you.

I can’t believe this. Kevin is one of my favorite basketball player. He is known as the winner in the game. I used to watch him on old days on Celtics team. He donated to Romney Campaign.

  7. bethtopaz Says:

Doug, thanks so much for your hard work in all this.

It is vital that our voting practices be kept pure, otherwise, how different are we than any other third world country where the voting is rigged to elect the dictator?

By the way, speaking of dictators, look how McCain handles himself in this Arizona townhall meeting:

    http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1073039/dont_ask_mccain/

Spread this video around so people voting for, or thinking of voting for McCain can get a good pre-look at their chosen “Komrad in Chief.”

  8. SGS Says:

Mike, the other thing about McCain not listening to his generals is that as soon as the soliders started to arrive in Kuwait, pre-surge, McCain almost immediately went around claiming the surge to produce results. I mean, those extra soliders have not step a foot in Iraq, but McCain would go on and on about how it will work. For me, this is the same mindset that Bush had for four years, before he finally permitted the generals to change the strategy — the surge — in Iraq.

  10. bigmo Says:

Good work Doug! The squeaky wheel gets the grease, we have to make sure something gets done about this. Imagine the news if Florida had to be overturned! Oh and ASLGuy, thanks for the heads up on Kevin McHale. My dad was so excited to hear. We live in California but he’s always been a big Celtics fan, especially in those days.

  11. Helen Says:

    Mike,
You should add the Ethic /corruption issue on McCain’s character list:
    • McCain was the only Republican Senator who had involved in the Savings and Loans scandal in 1989, which was the famous Washington corruption scandal in Capital Hill called the “Keating Five”. The rest of the “Keating five” were all Democrat Senators. He should be ashamed of himself.
    • As a contrast, Governor Romney took no pay for his 4 years services as the Governor of MA. The governor’s salary in MA was $89,000/ year by then, he took only $1.00/year.
By the way, I am wondering that his campaign team had never put these good things out to the public, and people, especially those fellow republicans still don’t know about Governor Romney. I feel bad about this…..

  12. Michael Says:

    Doug & Frozone,

Thanks so much for your help. I’ve been busy on other fronts. I don’t know why, but I had a feeling that something wasn’t right the night we say the Florida results coming in. Did anyone else feel the same way? I mean, all the polls were very tight and I felt we were getting some movement towards Mitt to push us over the top. Then we see a 5 point victory?–something just didn’t sit right with me. I base this on MCcain’s antics over that weekend regarding the timetable issue. I bet they had internal polling showing the state slipping and they resorted to distortion, now maybe illegal voting??

I’m will be sending this information to news outlets and demand they give it some attention. This is no small matter and we must demand that our voices be heard!

  13. Helen Says:

Rush complained this in his talk show that one of his friend told him that there was an independent voted for McCain in Dade county, but no one knew the magnitude. Voting fraud is a crime, am I right? If this is proved, then McCain should be stripped out his candidacy from the primary and to be prosecuted. He should be kicked out from the Republican Party anyway. Too many scandals and this will be a big damage to the Republicans. Who knows how many people involved? What about Rudy, Martinez and Chris, Was a conspiracy? We need to get this message out ASAP before the Super Tuesday… oh my god; they tried to hijack the Republican Party…

  14. Ash Says:

McCain has more skeletons in his closet, the Dems are pushing for him to be the nominee cause they know they have a strong stratagies against him

  15. jeff Says:

Regarding the second one on your list…there is no way that McCain is highly electable. Does any one really think that the media will give him a pass on the plethora of items that the media is currently giving him a pass on come a general election match up with a Democrat? Of course not.

  16. Frozone Says:

Here’s an update on the 300,000 indy’s in Florida’s closed election, for those that haven’t heard. I did get a reply from a lawyer in the Division of Elections. Here it is:

We believe the interview to which you reference occurred in Broward County . When the newscast aired, the incident was investigated by the Broward County Supervisor of Elections and it was determined that what the voter indicated occurred had not occurred. Apparently, some people like to make up issues when there are none. While no one can vouch for the actions of every individual volunteer poll worker, we are confident that poll workers were properly trained that only Republicans and Democrats could vote for presidential candidates in the presidential preference primary.

Indeed, here’s the link to the article:

    http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sfl-129electionday,0,6968764,print.story

I’ll note that the Broward County Supervisor of Elections is a democrat, so unfortunately, they have put the matter to rest, and I don’t expect them to do anything further about this. We’ll have to lick our wounds and move on.

It does occur to me that we should encourage the state parties to change their rules and conduct closed primaries/caucuses in the future. With “open borders” like that, how do we hope to stem the tide of meddling independents and even democrats. As a great war hero would say: “That, my friends, is straight talk”, and that my friends, is how our party is being hijacked (with a little help from a third candidate that is playing the role of spoiler, but that’s another blog post ;) ).

On the brighter side. I did some phone banking up here in the frozen tundra of Minnesota today, and I talked with a lot of undecided voters that caught the California debate, and are now leaning away from McCain. I even talked one voter out of caucusing for Hillary (to derail Obama) by pointing out that Romney more closely aligned with his values, and that he should instead cast his vote FOR a candidate, instead of against another. He was concerned that Obama would be unbeatable in the general election. After talking with him about the candidate’s resumes, and Romney’s impeccable credentials, I assured him that he would have no trouble dealing with Hillary (washington insider) or Obama (great speaker, but absolutely no experience or past successes to point to).

And yes, our man Mitt stopped by tonight for a quick rally, and the crowd was bursting at the seems and completely energized. I got to shake his hand, and my wife chatted with him for a minute. His son was with him too, so I thanked him for all their hard work, and he was very gracious. This man and his family are the most decent, classiest act in the republican primary. It’s a great team.
