PLEASE HELP — GOVERNOR ROMNEY NEEDS YOUR HELP TODAY

January 30th, 2008 Posted in 2008, Change Agent, Florida, John McCain, MSM, Media, Media Bias, Mitt Romney

Flag Waving

THANK YOU VERY MUCH to all of you who have contributed to contribute to Governor Romney’s presidential campaign. He needs to build the war chest for next Tuesday.   We are still short about $5,000 in the committed bucket (see commitment to Gov. Romney below).

Governor Romney is running against three HUGE opponents in these primaries:

1The Mainstream Media. Clearly, in the Republican Primary in Florida and beyond, John McCain is the MSM darling. Many political experts outside Governor Romney’s camp have even stated as much. They are all pulling for McDarling.

2Washington, D.C. Establishment. People like Lindsay Graham (senator from South Carolina) and many others are directly threatened by Mitt Romney if he is able to follow through on his promises of turning Washington, D.C. inside-out to completely reform it.

3John McCain. In the last several days, the driver of the “Straight Talk Express” has been blatantly lying about Governor Romney’s statements. We now know he is able, and more than willing, to do or say whatever he thinks he needs to in order to gain supreme power in Washington, D.C.

4 Religious Bigotry.

Below is a reader’s comment left at this blog about seven days ago. I decided to post it, front and center, to make a point. Many, many of you have sacrificed greatly to assist Governor Romney in this cause to fundamentally alter the course of America for good. Many thousands of grassroots hours of work have been given by many of you in placing the get-out-the-vote calls. So many of you have been contacting neighbors, friends, and associates to influence. I have spoken to many of you who have done these things. THANK YOU!

I made a commitment over a week ago to raise a significant amount of money toward the February 5th primary states to get Governor Romney’s message out properly. I intend to keep that commitment to the campaign, but I will need a lot of help — FROM YOU. You can imagine that for Governor Romney to campaign against all three of the above opponents in Florida, he has had to spend a considerable amount.

In the last few days, I have contacted people who told me months ago they would one day contribute to Governor Romney’s campaign when it looked like he was really viable. Well guess what? He has always been viable, but now is their time to step up. I have called them on it and they will contribute. There are always early trail blazers — those have already blazed the trails for Governor Romney. We now need those who have been waiting and watching.

Please make a contribution today. Click below to do so (in the “Source Code” box, please type in ECA064):

*********************************************************

OFFICIAL ROMNEY ONLINE CONTRIBUTION FORM — PLEASE DONATE NOW

*********************************************************

Using the above online form sends the needed funds directly to the campaign chest immediately. People always ask me how much they should donate. Frankly, that is a private matter — this I will say: No contribution is too small. If all you can afford today is $25, then [click Continue Reading below]

please contribute. If you can afford $250, please contribute. If you can afford $1,000, please contribute. If you have not maxed out yet, and can, please do so now. If you have the means to give the maximum allowable by law and would like to do that, the most you can contribute is $4,600 per couple ($2,300 each) for the Primary Election and $4,600 per couple for the General Election. Governor Romney is now accepting contributions for the General election, should he be the Republican nominee.

By using that source code above, you are contributing directly into the commitment I made to the campaign — the event “bucket” if you will. If you are able to be in Orange County, California this Thursday, the 31st, and contribute $1,000 per person, you are invited to a luncheon with Governor Romney (reply in comments if you would like details and I will email them to you).

Comment [emphasis is mine]:
This is one of the very best articles about Gov. Romney to date. I have emailed Rod Davies(Ann’s brother) with whom we have been working closely here in Orlando, FL - hoping they have the staff in place to get this out to the conservative talk shows and any other place it can have exposure, immediately. I feel sure those of us who have supported Gov Romney from the beginning have all felt this way and fume with frustration each day when we see the injustices of the MSM and the foolishness of the other candidates. Mitt Romney is the ONLY adult in this race and we must fight hard to be sure he is our next President. My husband and I have NEVER been political out of the voting booth but this time we have so far contributed more than [maxed out --- Primary & General] and volunteered with the local campaign . . . because of our concerns for the future. We asked ourselves if we could afford it - the answer was that we could not afford not to afford it. I hope everyone reading this comment looks deeply into their hearts and makes that decision for our country and our families and our businesses. We have a small business but have big concerns that not electing the right person will jeopardize all of the many years of hard work and sacrifice. Thank goodness Gov Romney and his family agreed to subject themselves to this “campaign hell” (sorry). It is unbelievable that anyone who is good for the country would subject themselves to the rigors of a campaign. Please, please keep working hard for Mitt Romney - we must put other things on hold until this election is finished. We are truly fighting against all odds to send a message that we need Mitt Romney as our President. We did it with immigration - we can do it NOW. Remember the very profound statement - “United We Stand, Divided We Fall.”

Again, THANK YOU to all of you who are working so hard for Governor Romney! You are making it happen. Together, we will see him all the way to inauguration.

You need to pick up the article from townhall about Brian Williams blatantly biased question concerning religion at the Republican debate on Thurs night. Excellent!

  2. Kay Berg Says:

You need to pick up the article from Townhall this morning about Brian Williams blantantly bigoted religious question asked of Romney at the debate Thursday night. Excellent! Romney still remained dignified in his answer much to his credit.

  3. Ryan S. Says:

The Crist endorsement officially hurt. Romney went from a 6 point lead to a dead tie overnight according to Rassmussen.

Gosh freakin heck I hate John McAmnesty the liar, Gobernador Crist, and “I am so holy, worship me” Huckabee.

  8. Ryan S. Says:

Well I hate to say it, but it looks like McCain’s got the edge going into the election tomorrow. Crist’s endorsement probably did it. But it’s only a slight edge. Just a few points. With that slim of a margin, it’ll come down to turnout. Hopefully Romney’s organization pays off.

  9. Ray Hatton (Libertarian for Romney) Says:

We may want to report that Mitt is going to attend the funeral of Gordon B Hinckey.

    http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2008/01/romney_to_atten.html

While talking about it, we ,ight be tempted to pump up Gordon’s national achievements cause it sort of turns Romney’s “negative” (his religion) into a positive by mentioning Gordon’s credentials as good man who has been honored by his nation.

    http://www.corecharacter.com/uploads/GordonHinckley_GeorgeBush-thumb.jpg

LDS Church President Gordon B. Hinckley received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian award from President Bush.

“Millions of Americans reserve a special respect for Gordon B. Hinckley, who still works every day as president of the Mormon Church” Bush told those assembled.

“Mr. Hinckley is the grandson of Mormon pioneers and has given devoted service to his church since 1935. He’s always shown the heart of a servant and the gifts of a leader.

“Through his discipline and faithfulness, he has proven a worthy successor to the many fine leaders before him. His church has given him its highest position of trust, and today this wise and patriotic man receives his country’s highest civil honor.”

  10. Marybeth Says:

My friend just called me - she got a Robocall from Crist saying he’s voting for McCain.

She said that just told her who she shouldn’t vote for!

    She’s voting Romney.

One example of that endorsement backfiring . . . hopefully it’s doing the same for others.

  11. Marybeth Says:

Oh, and some other good news!

Romney up by 7 in Florida . . . may be an outlier, but interesting!

    http://politicalwire.com/archives/2008/01/28/ppp_poll_romney_leads_in_florida.html

  12. Marybeth Says:

Another poll Rush just talked about had Romney up by 10. That could also be an outlier, but could it be that undecideds are breaking Romney’s way?

  13. braddahmike Says:

Ray…what is sad about your post is not the passing of the LDS leader, but that if Romney were President…he’d get taken out to the woodshed by our media for bestowing the honor on someone who is of the same faith.

  14. ASLguy Says:

Do you have link where I can see PPP polled Iowa, NH, MI and others?

  15. Marybeth Says:

Here is that poll that Rush talked about:

    http://www.datamar.net/pdf/floridarepublicanPP28jan08.pdf

It’s getting more and more interesting~

  16. Ray Hatton (Libertarian for Romney) Says:

braddahmikeon, thats why we should mention it, it was Bush who gave it to him, and I feel we should bring that up as an unbiased Republican president who recognized and Romney’s attendance at the funeral shouldn’t just be merely the loss of his religious leader, but a nationally honored man.

  17. Mike Says:

Wow, She is one hot governor. Mitt, please pick her on your ticket.

    http://ultimitt.org/index.php?option=com_fireboard&func=view&id=9710&catid=15#9710

  18. Mit 10 Says:

Mike- Romney can select her and they can run as the Ken and Barbie ticket.

He will select someone who is really sharp and who can contribute to help fix Washington. He might consider someone from the south to help with the southern vote but I feel confident whom ever he chooses will be sharp.

  19. Nivek Says:

Unless you expext Rush, Hanity and Levin to sit idly by and watch McCain and Huckabee prevail, they have only one guy left to support now that Guliani is out, andthat man is Mitt.

Yesterday may actually prove to be a tipping point where the conservative movers and shakers realize that unless they heed the call to arms and rally around Romney, they are going to lose to McCain/Huckabee?Hillary/Obama.

WHo else is left for them to rally around?

BTW, every station on TV this morning is talking about how McCain lied about Romney. The most vocal is Joe Scarborough. I hope that the Florida win as a result of Lying wakes people up to the fact that with Guiliani gone, Mitt is the only other game left. Abandon him and conservatism in the White House in Jan 09 is a lost cause.

Yesterday’s evenst may turn out to be a “net-net” gain for Mitt if it wakes the powerful among us up who now need to vocally endorse (listening Rush?) or get ready for McCain/ Huckabee as the GOP (losing) ticket.

Mitt is the only one left standing these guys will accept, so the question is whether they will get vocal about support for him now.

  20. sam Says:

McCain is an admitted aulterer. It may have happened to 30 years ago but I think it is relevant. Perhaps not for a public debate but for personal consideration. It is also alleged he has a child from an affair while married to Cindy. Maybe this is why she is (was?)addicted to pain killers.

Do we really want to have a GOP candidate with so much baggage? It will be on display shortly as the media who has carefully built him up is about to tear him down.

A vote for McCain is a vote for the Dems.

  21. Stephen Says:

Watching Morning Joe on MSNBC this morning Joe held up USA Today. On the front page was a picture of John McCain. Joe mentioned and Mika agreed that the picture of McCain is worth 50 million dollars of publicity. McCain’s picture will appear on many publications without a negative byline such as his religion, for example. How much worth does that translate into? Remember when Romney appeared on the covers of magazines? The picture was accompanied by a question reguarding his religion.

This is why money is crucial and vital to winning, especially if you do have a household name. Romney is not well known even though he is by far the most qualified and accomplished candidate simply isn’t well known enough. McCain has had years of MSM coverage. He will have positive coverage this week as well.

Romney lost Florida for some of these reasons:

    1. Mel Martinez (immigration - cuban vote - he is for amnesty)
    2. Gov. Crist (70% approval rating)
    3. Huckabee (splits the social conservative vote -abortion / religion)
    4. Free MSM coverage (remember free positive coverage is worth tens of millions)
    5. The false charges that Mitt is for timetables (people do not know, it makes them uncertain about Mitt)
    6. TIME (another week or two and Mitt would have exposed McCain - he ran out of time
    7. Veterans
    8. Pro War crowd
    9. They know John - people are more comfortable with something or someone they know. True change is rare, unknown and difficult for many people to embrace. People will talk about change, in politics talk is the operative word.

  22. Abe Says:

There were certain situations in my life that had the appearance of ‘big trouble’. In one of these it seemed like my time on earth was over. All of these situations had one thing in common. I prayed and was hoping for god´s help.
Usually it wouldn´t come right away. I had to endure and develop patience. And finally things would turn out right.
That is something I have learned. To endure in discouraging situations, to do everything I´m able to do and then to trust that god would help me out.
Gov. Romney is surely doing all he can and so are many, many of his supporters. He is a good man and everybody can see that. God doesn´t sleep and if there is a way to help the best man and bless a people then THIS WILL HAPPEN no matter what.
But if the majority of the american people prefer a liar and a hypocrite before a good man (no matter what the reasons are) then this people is left to be taught a divine lesson. GMR has oftentimes invoked the thought that the american people are special. But how special can those be who turn to liars and hypocrites and hang on their lips????

  23. Nivek Says:

The conservative powerful whose endorements would carry massive weight, who happen to loate McCain/Huckabee now have a simple choice:

    1. Remian quiet and do not lend vocal support to another specific GOP candidiate, and watch McCain/Huckabee get the nomination.

    2. Get behind Ron Paul. ( Never gonna happen)

    3. Get behind Mitt Romney.

#2 is a non factor because it will never happen. But if they dont get behind option #3, #1 will happen by default.

  24. amie Says:

    According to Drudge
Another Liberal is gonna endorse McCain… Arnold
    Edwards is dropping out also

  25. amie Says:

If Ron Paul runs third party, I will throw my vote to him. I can not vote for McCain. I will vote against him, even if it means dems get the office. The media keeps saying McCain will get the support of all the conservatives once the general election comes. I disagree. He also has to have them energized to vote for him. That will not happen.

  26. amie Says:

I am looking forward to seeing that nasty smirk wiped off McCains face when he loses the general election to the dems.

  27. ABE Says:

And I saw two beasts rising out of the truthless pit.
And there names were written on their foreheads. And the name of the first one was HUCKABEAST.
And lo the first beast was a servant and also a part of the second beast and the name of the second beast was MUCKILLO and the second was greater and even more terrible to behold than the first.
And I beheld - MUCKILLO devoured all the host of the Huckabeans and their moaning was great before the Lord and the last thing they understood was that they fed the beast until it grew fat upon the land to devour them.
And lo MUCKILLO raged upon the face of the earth … (sicr)

  28. Linda Says:

Comments above really interesting. Well, if the conservatives don’t come out full force for Romney today, I guess it’s curtains for Mitt. There’s no way he can counter the millions upon millions of dollars of free publicity McCain is getting now.

  29. Abe Says:

    John Edwards is out

  30. Peter Combes Says:

Parents teach their children that lying is bad. Those who lie are punished, not rewarded. Much of our social fabric is dependent on that premis.

A man we are supposed to respect has just broken that rule and been aided by the media and a rule he helped craft.

Mormons in good standing are bound by a requirement to be “honest with their dealings with their fellow man”. Obviously McCain does not live by a similar requirement. It gives him a significant advantage. (I can’t explain Harry Reed).

I did some reading on slander. It seems that it’s ok if the person doesn’t know that his is lying. That means that either McCain is guilty of lying (and should not be a presidential nominee) or he is incapable of understanding that he was lying (and should not be a presidential nominee). In either case, it appears that he has gotten away with it.

Oh Florida, we depended so much on you.

Back to work. If the cause is just it is not over until it is over. - P

  31. Abe Says:

The events of the last day were very exciting!
A lot of stress for an old heart … hmm

  33. John Says:

I saw this on another blog.

I was a volunteer for the Romney campaign in Jacksonville, Florida this week. What you probably didn’t hear about from the MSM were the robo-calls from the McCain camp saying that Mitt Romney wanted to “take God out of America”. These attacks were focused on areas like Bay county in the panhandle where evangelicals are prevalent. These were also tag-teamed by the Huckabee campaign, who we confirmed was using our call list to “spam” potential voters with messages from Mitt Romney. They set up their robo-dialers to call the same household four to five times with back to back calls playing one of our messages. The aim was to anger the many undecided voters and turn them to other candidates. We talked to several angry voters who reported upwards of 20 calls the same day from Romney. Many of them in turn went to vote for McCain as a result of their frustration. We asked what number they saw on the caller ID for these calls, and we repeatedly traced them back to Huckabee. With the obvious back-alley dealings that are going on between the McCain/Huckabee/Rudy camps, it is no wonder that Romney lost Florida. PLEASE read this to your audience. It is only fair that we report the truth.

  34. John S. Maine Says:

I am on hold with the glenn beck radio show as we speak, and i just made a 100.00 donation to mitt!

  35. John S. Maine Says:

I am still on hold , Michelle Malkin is currently speaking!

  36. sam Says:

I will be making a donation today. Rudy Gulianni is so proud of running a positive campaign and referenced negative ads ect. I am assuming because he is supporting John McCain, Rudy is inferring that it is Mitt Romney that has been the negative one.

This is absolutely frustrating when McCain and Huckabee can stoop so low and come up roses. This is what is wrong in Washington. Romney has a bullseye on his forhead for the time he changed his position on abortion and his rivals have used that to their advantage but had this not been the case I think bigotry is the ultimate reason he has not been able to pull ahead. Romney is still the best man in the race and would fight hard for us.

I will donate to his campaign and I am going in to the call center to help call for super Tuesday.

  37. Vic Lundquist Says:

THANK YOU for the donations to Governor Romney’s campaign.

Please continue to contribute. Don’t forget the Source Code.

    THANK YOU!

  38. Mike Says:

Thanks for getting that posted John. I’ve passed that on to family and friends. It’s so discouraging to see the underhanded tactics that Huckabee and McCain are using against Mitt.
There is no way McCain will win the general election. I for one (and I know there are many others) would never vote for him. If McCain gets the nomination it’s a democrat in the white house. I guess even if he WON the general election we would STILL have a democrat in the white house!

  39. John S. Maine Says:

    I am still on hold!

  40. John S. Maine Says:

Well I made it on even though it was only for a few seconds! I stated “I am fired up” “The Guy is incredible” referring to Mitt Romney.

  41. Debra Says:

I was distressed as were many at Florida’s outcome. Mc Cain is a fighter, and his back was against the wall, being out of money. It would have been his dimise if he had come in 2nd. He played it hard, and smart (if dirty), and probably gave a vice-presidential promise to get a powerful endorsement, but he can’t do all that on Super Tuesday in all the states. I still have great hope for the Romney campaign and here’s why.
    1) True conservitive pundents, politians, and power brokers will openly line up behind Romney. They have supported up to now, but now is the time they will make their influence known. They had hoped Romney could do it on his own, and he has done marvelously, but he can’t fight the media and Huckabee who is splitting the social conservatives without some more help. Plus they know McCain can’t unite the party. The strongest indicator of that is that though the media has played the McCain as the front runner for weeks he still doesn’t have the money. When people believe they contribute.
    2) Without a single state for the national media to focus on ( they will focus on New York and California) McCain will not have the media doing his heavy work in a single state as he has in the past. Remember the states the national media didn’t value, McCain lost in. Romney won with his organization on the ground and who he is and his message.
    3) McCain has too many negitives going for him. He doesn’t have the “presidentialness ” about him. Romney has that in spades.
    4) Though voter turnout will be high, it will not be through the roof as it has been, and republican regulars will dominate more. They like Romney better and feel he ultimately is more electable. He has been building bonds here and his 50 state, year long strategy will start to pay off.
    5) Guliani’s endorsement will not help that much. Romney should get much of what was left of his support. Remember, republican regulars are not the uneducated poor.
    6) McCain is going to have to go negitive as he did in Florida. If Romney stays positive he has it all going for him; the values, family, decorum, intelligence, experience, and message.
It is the second half of the 4th quarter, our team is close behind on the scoreboard but we have the most talented motivated quarterback, he will rally the team and come from behind and win. Now there is THE comeback story.
I am going to the Romney site and make my first contribution. (Sorry it has taken me so long). Anyone care to join me?

  42. Mike Says:

    @John
So you weren’t able to get the point in about the robocalls that Huckabee did in Romney’s name?

  43. Mike Says:

With Arnold endorsement, Mitt is done in CA but still have chances in some states. NY,NJ, Conn will get behind Mac. Some southern states will get behind Huck. Endorsements are very important and Mitt doesn’t have one big endorsement yet. He needs it badly. For sure, Mac will not win this fall due to his age, soft on Hillary or can’t match Obama’s attraction agenda.

  44. Debra Says:

To Mike about California and Arnold

“On the Republican side, California may be Mitt Romney’s best hope to employ what will likely be his latest approach: that he is the true reliable Reagan conservative.

This may seem odd, given the presence of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, a pro-choice, pro-gay rights, environmentally-progressive, post-partisan governor. But Schwarzenegger is not emblematic of the California GOP. The rank and file out there — especially those in the interior, in the Central Valley and in the fast-growing counties of Riverside and San Bernardino — are conservative, given to choosing more conservative candidates, even if they are less electable in a general election. (Ah-nold, remember, never ran in a contested Republican primary; he got the statehouse in 2003 in a recall election).

So if Romney can manage to convince conservatives in California than John McCain is an anti-tax-cutting, campaign finance-reforming, immigrant-coddling politician, he may have a chance to win that most populous state and keep his hopes alive for the tests down the road.”
CBS News: Keeping Score on Super Tuesday

  45. sam Says:

I think McCain going negative in Florida really hurt Romney. Being positive might cause him more votes.

  46. sam Says:

I am so tired. I had sleepless night. So the above posr makes no sense.

Being positive might cost him more votes.

  47. amie Says:

I still think the MSM is what has held Mitt back. He would have won florida if the media was fair to him.
