Florida conservatives: let’s show them who’s really a Republican
January 29th, 2008 Posted in Mitt Romney
See this link from CNN today. Their political correspondent says:
“A McCain victory in Florida will be particularly significant because only registered Republicans can vote in the Republican primary. It will be a way for McCain to prove his bona fides with the base…if Mitt Romney wins Florida, it will be a clear signal that the base is not happy with McCain. The Arizona senator could be facing a conservative revolt.”
So get out there and be part of the revolution!

John Kerry: McCain Approached Me About Joining Dem Ticket in 2004
On Monday afternoon I had the chance to speak with Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts, the Democratic Party’s nominee for President in 2004. During the interview, which covers a range of topics and which I will be posting later this afternoon, an item of particular interest jumped out at me: According to Sen. Kerry, it was John McCain’s staff who approached his campaign about potentially filling the Vice President slot on the Democratic ticket in 2004.
Take a listen to and a look at the interchange…
Go to http://mydd.com/story/2007/4/3/11936/97033 to hear John Kerry giving this interview.
Jonathan Singer: There’s a story in The Hill, I think on Tuesday, by Bob Cusack on the front page of the paper talking about how John McCain’s people — John Weaver — had approached Tom Daschle and a New York Congressman, I don’t remember his name, about switching parties. And I was wondering if you could talk a little bit about what your discussions were with him in 2004, how far it went, who approached whom… if there was any “there” there.
John Kerry: I don’t know all the details of it. I know that Tom, from a conversation with him, was in conversation with a number of Republicans back then. It doesn’t surprise me completely because his people similarly approached me to engage in a discussion about his potentially being on the ticket as Vice President. So his people were active — let’s put it that way.
Singer: Okay. And just to confirm, you said it, but this is something they approached you rather than…
Kerry: Absolutely correct. John Weaver of his shop… [JK aswers phone]
As you might know from reading my posts in the past, I don’t usually addend my own thoughts to my interviews. I like to think they speak for themselves. But in light of the fact that I have written about a closely-related subject and I think this item is particularly newsworthy, if you’ll oblige me I’d like to write a few words here.
For many Republicans, it has been bad enough that John McCain has voted and worked with Democrats against the majority of Republican Senators on a number of occasions in recent years. For Republicans, I would imagine that reports that he approached the Democrats about leaving the Senate GOP caucus in 2001 represent a borderline unpardonable offense. But it seems that reaching out to the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee to talk about running on that party’s ticket would be tantamount to the highest form of political treason to Republicans.
Certainly, I would assume that McCain’s campaign will deny Kerry’s account of their interactions. In fact I would be surprised if they didn’t push back on this story, as they did to the story in The Hill last week. (A call for comment to the McCain campaign was not returned before the time this story was published.) That said, at least from my vantage this story could hardly come at a worse time for McCain.

Hi everyone,
Has anyone heard about a few precincts in FL that are allowing independents to vote for republicans!? Apparantly, Rush Linbaugh witnessed this happening this morning! Gee, I wonder who’s behind THAT (sense my sarcasm?)!? If this is true, it is really disappointing that “McNasty” has stooped not only to all the lying, but now it appears he is actually cheating to win FL. Irresponsible and dishonorable! I hope Mitt blows this guy out of the water!!! GO MITT!

Amanda, “independents”, quite simply CANNOT vote in the primaries UNLESS they were either a registered republican or democrat by 31 Dec 07. Ergo, if someone did vote, and was actually a registered independent, it is a violation of Florida election laws. Simple as that…

I live in Palm Beach County and people are calling radio stations telling of how Independents are being allowed to vote. Election headquarters have been contacted. Come on Florida, we no have yet another hurdle to get over. Get everyone you can and vote Romney. It is up to all of us now.

Don’t vote for McCain.
If you vote for McCain, then it is the same as voting for George W. Bush.
McCain and Bush both want the war to continue in Iraq, and the cost of that war is almost five hundred billion dollars.
This war should be on terror, and not in Iraq.
Part of the reason your life is not as good today, is because the money that would have helped you, is going to Arabs in Iraq and other places.
This is what Bush and McCain have done with your money!
I am,

We need a HUGE TURNOUT. Floridians, please try to bring at least one more conservative voter with you to the polls.
As Hugh Hewitt said in his book title: “IF IT’S NOT CLOSE, THEY CAN’T CHEAT”

McCain is worse than Bush. He is lying to America about wanting to close the borders and he will promote amnesty if he is elected. He is claiming he is the conservative who can unite the Republican party. That is yet another lie to come from his mouth. He will not unite the party and he will never be president. He doesn’t understand that there are too many people who hate him, do not trust him and will NEVER vote for him.

I saw this on another blog.
I was a volunteer for the Romney campaign in Jacksonville, Florida this week. What you probably didn’t hear about from the MSM were the robo-calls from the McCain camp saying that Mitt Romney wanted to “take God out of America”. These attacks were focused on areas like Bay county in the panhandle where evangelicals are prevalent. These were also tag-teamed by the Huckabee campaign, who we confirmed was using our call list to “spam” potential voters with messages from Mitt Romney. They set up their robo-dialers to call the same household four to five times with back to back calls playing one of our messages. The aim was to anger the many undecided voters and turn them to other candidates. We talked to several angry voters who reported upwards of 20 calls the same day from Romney. Many of them in turn went to vote for McCain as a result of their frustration. We asked what number they saw on the caller ID for these calls, and we repeatedly traced them back to Huckabee. With the obvious back-alley dealings that are going on between the McCain/Huckabee/Rudy camps, it is no wonder that Romney lost Florida. PLEASE read this to your audience. It is only fair that we report the truth.
