Why the Dishonest McCain Attacks?…Must be Internal Polling
Charles Mitchell over at EFM writes about the dishonest attacks that are now coming from John McCain just a few days out from the primary. Interesting…why did McCain wait until now? If he was comfortable with his internal polling then there is no way that he would risk going dishonest and negative right before the primary. McCain knows it is risky, but he has no other choice. He sees that things are trending Romney’s way and slipping away from him. Check out the numbers for the last three days of Insider Advantage daily tracking polls.
Insider Advantage Floriday Daily Tracking Poll
Date Romney McCain
(1/25) 26 / 24
(1/24) 23 / 23
(1/23) 22 / 23
The only option is to attack, even if he has to do it dishonestly. Mark my words…the supposed “straight talk express” will take a even greater detour before Tuesday!

When the dishonest polls come out from whomever, showing McCain either leading or losing within 2-3 points, don’t believe it. This caucus is not in New Hampshire or South Carolina where independents and or democrats can vote. Republicans don’t like John McCain, and this will prove out big time in Florida. Remember Nevada showed McCain winning over Mitt, and look what Mitt did in the actual voting. The Florida “McCain Defeat” will be even worse than Michigan.

John McCain is a joke. Now that he is behind Romney he is going negative and making things up. He is just an angry old man. Give it up John, Republicans don’t want you!
January 26th, 2008 at 7:43 pm
For some reason Insider Advantage uses Dems & Indies in this poll even though Florida is closed; Mitt’s advantage is a little higher taking those numbers out. Some pollsters count “moderates” and “liberals” but still mean registered Republicans … but Insider Advantage appears to actually be using registered Democrats and Independents. I can’t quite believe McCain is saying Romney wants to pull out of Iraq; that’s preposterous. He certainly must be feeling desperate!
January 26th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
It would be nice if we could get the media to expose some of McCain’s non-conservative deviations. Most of the exposure is in the radio talk shows and vehicles like this one. The audience isn’t big enough.
Too many people have no way to recognize a lie …. or two …. or three ……
January 26th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
now i hear the florida gov. is endorsing john mccain!!!!!!!!! where are all the conservatives???
January 26th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
McCain surges in Florida. Intrade futures have McCain at 59, Romney at 38.
Romney is in serious trouble.

NY for Mitt
McCain and Romney tied in actual early Florida votes–you can help
You would expect McCain to be well ahead in absentee balloting since he has had the lead for most of the time since South Carolina. However, according to SurveyUSA poll, McCain and Romney are tied leading the early votes with 30% each.
Each candidate has some advantages going into the last three days, and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top. I honestly believe that since Giuliani is not likely to win Florida, whoever wins there will pretty much have the spot locked up.
McCain has the advantage of a laughably biased press. And as much as I find it amusing to watch MSNBC work their “plausible deniability” magic of being biased without sounding TOO biased, it’s a shame to acknowledge that the vast majority of people accept things they are told by the press at face value.
Romney has the advantage of winning the debate. There are several people in the press who had kisses and cuddles for McCain in regard to the debate, but most realize that everyone who saw it knows Romney won.
McCain has the advantage of Ron Paul supporters. Yes, you heard me right. They have nothing better to do than propel whatever idiotic scandal they can conjure up into online prominence, and they are doing it right now with silly accusations that Romney was cued during the debate. Let me tell you, Romney doesn’t need someone to whisper “taxes” to him to realize taxes are relevant in a discussion of social security and fiscal policy. How stupid to these people think Romney is? And there’s no way Romney could wax as articulate and eloquent as he did during the debate if his attention was split by listening to the voices in his head. It’s ludicrous on so many levels, but good ol’ Ron Paul’s supporters love a conspiracy theory, and they’re happy to ignore that the wannabe scandal plays to McCain’s favor, not Ron Paul’s. Memo to Paul supporters: who did Paul attack at the debate, McCain or Romney? So do your candidate a favor and direct your collective venom at McCain!
Romney has the advantage of being underestimated in the national media’s characterization of the polls. Despite reports that he and McCain are neck in neck, Romney leads by a wide margin among Republicans, and Florida’s primary is a closed one.
McCain has the advantage of having a couple late-breaking endorsements.
Romney has the advantage of Thompson dropping out and leaving Romney as the only conservative choice.
What will tip the balance? Well, I’m finally going to take some time to make some phone calls. If there’s a balance to be tipped, it’s going to be done by supporters like you and me. You’ll be amazed at how short and easy it is to do this service to Romney (and service to your country, in my opinion!).

Has intrade been accurate thus far? Didn’t the numbers flip in one night?
January 26th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
Intrade must put a lot of stock in Charlie Crist. They had Romney up 15 or so when I checked this morning, now its flipped. I hope Jeb steps up soon.
January 26th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
Yes, Intrade is changing constantly depending on who is buying contracts. No doubt, people have been buying McCain contracts recently because he was just endorsed by Mel Martinez and Charlie Crist, this driving the contract price higher.
Still…..I’m worried.
January 26th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
Other than Jeb who else could Romney bring in to counter Crist? I don’t think you need a politician necessarily. Any thoughts?
January 26th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
Breaking News Governor Charlie Cryst of Florida just endorsed John McCain on live T.V on Fox. He even gave John McCain a big hug and stated that he is the best person to take over!
Charlie you just lost all my respect!
January 26th, 2008 at 9:11 pm
How could Florida’s governor endorse John McCain after his deceptive attacks of Mitt Romney this morning? He must not care about checking facts, staying informed, or being honest in politics!!
January 26th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Did McCain make a deal, or is the establishment aligning behind McCain?
January 26th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Not the end of the world people. This was talked about weeks ago. I don’t think McCain will get to much bounce from this endorsement. You need to remember Mitt is picking up Fred supporters at a rate of 80% plus.
Also remember the Florida primary is Republican vote only. Mitt’s poll numbers are good and in fact better then they show.
McCain is desperate and doing all he can to survive. Let’s all do our part and Mitt will WIN!
January 26th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
I did the “call at home” thing for Romney today.
Results:
Romney 22
McCain 3
Undecided 10
There were zero people voting for Giuliani, Huck, and Paul.
I hope this is indicative of what will happen on Tuesday. Most all the respondents seemed to be elderly.
January 26th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
McCain is now the “Straight Faced Liar”
So much for honor, Juan McCain
January 26th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
So am I hearing this correct - the polls that we are seeing over the last number of days includes independants????? If this is the case then I will feel much more comfortable about Romney’s chances. He solidly has the conservative vote down and McCain is derailing his straight talk express right into the middle of the mud pit that the Clintons have been using for the last number of days. To outright lie like that is not something I would like to see in someone that is running for the position of POTUS. We already know the type of person that will lie to get what they want even if they are in the WH. Bill ring a bell??
I am going to be doing the calling tomorrow and if I can on Monday. Everybody should take some time out to help. Let’s get this steamtrain moving in the right direction with a win on Tuesday……
Let’s go team Mitt!!!!!!!
January 26th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
i can’t believe the lie he is putting out there. they use part of the quote only. mitt then said he would veto any bill with a time table attached to it. but NO the media wont report that. out right lie and mccain is getting away with it. what is going on with this country. are we run by the msm media? its time to fight back and big time. romney has the money now is the time to use it. lets go people i for one have had about enough of the mccain lies and the media constintly backing him up! what does it take for an honest man like romney to get any good press. does this fire anybody else up. It should. We shouldnt sit here and take this crap anymore.
January 26th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
Well, McCain got Martinez (big help that must be…) and Crist (that one really does hurt) to pull the trigger and formally endorse. Romney needs to counter that with Jeb. If by Monday night, Romney can encourage Jeb Bush to endorse, Florida can still be a win.
January 26th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
Governor Crist just payed McCain back for endorsing him a few years ago. Joe Scarborough is just suggesting he did it in anticipation of being a vice presidential candidate. When asked why he endorsed McCain all he could say was that he was a great man, a great patriot, and a good friend….and he just had “a gut feeling.” Wow! Gut feeling??
January 26th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
McCain is desperate and hopefully floridians will see through him. He was weak at the Boca Raton debate and this is his way of spoiling Romney’s success. It is clear that Romney does not believe in a timetable for Iraq I hope it backfires on McCain. Instead of courting conservatives in his old age he should just leave the republican party. I know alot of republicans that will stay home on election day if McCain is the nominee.
January 26th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
I haven’t dug into it, but I’d guess that the IA poll uses a list of registered voters who registered as Republicans. Of course that doesn’t mean that they’re all Republicans, anyone can register as Republican or Democrat.
The latest IA poll shows that nearly 90% say that they’re Republicans. The other 10% could be Dems or Indys, or confused or lying.
January 26th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
I’d be very unhappy if McCain wins in Florida. He’s a great American, but he’s wrong on the issues tat are important to Conservatives.
January 26th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
I no longer have respect for McCain. He is a dishonest man. We have had too many lying presidents!
January 26th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
I would shudder to call him a “great” American at this time. Using the troops as a political weapon is shameless and I’m sorry…he’s NOT a great American. Was would be more appropriate.
January 26th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
I wish I understood why so many of my posts lately have been monitored and not put on. Have I ever done anything here that isn’t in line with what we are all trying to do?
January 27th, 2008 at 12:50 am
To Lucy,
I too know a number of people who will stay home rather then vote for McCain and that includes me. If Romney plays his cards right, McCain will become more frustrated and angry, showing the real McCain. The voters will not like what they see. Romney needs to rise above it all.
January 27th, 2008 at 2:01 am
If Missouri is a bellwether, my neighborhood canvassing and call-at-home work indicates that Republicans are moving away from McCain and transferring loyalties from Thompson to Romney. The other candidates are never mentioned.
I had an interesting conversation with a woman who lived in Massachusetts a few years ago and voted for Mitt for Governor. She thinks Huckabee is an embarrassment and said, “We haven’t had good luck with Governor’s from Hope, Arkansas, have we?”
She will not vote for McCain because of the immigration fiasco and doesn’t consider Rudy a Republican. She likes Romney’s positions and said he “looks and speaks so Presidential.”
I feel the same frustration that others have towards RINO’S like Crist endorsing “Open Borders” McCain and the Senator’s shameful twisting of Romney’s Iraq “timetable” remarks. I can only hope that this angry, spiteful, deceitful little man goes down to a well-deserved electoral defeat in Florida.
January 27th, 2008 at 10:20 am
I can’t stand McCain. I have now lost all respect for him. I used to say he was a good American that just disagreed with me on a lot of issues and let his temper get away from him sometimes. But now I believe he has a very ugly side to him. He has no integrity. This has been shown over and over, from his affair while married to his first wife to his lies while campaigning. He may win the nomination, but I believe he has lost his soul. He has certainly lost my respect. From some of the comments made by a lot of political pundits, I think he has lost some respect there too. They recognize his lies and are calling him on it.
January 27th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
Barb, they only people I know who support McCain are left leaning and will not vote for Hilary or Obama for various reasons. Can we hear more from Floridians? What is happening on the ground?
