Mitt Romney: True, Consistent, Long-Time Conservative

In the last few days, I have been reading most of the comments that many of you been leaving in this blog. First of, I wish to thank all of you who have done so; even those who presently disagree with the authors of this site or with Governor Romney himself. Those of us who strive to bring truth to the surface as we attempt to enlighten, are grateful.
Many of the comments are by new visitors. I have read comments by those who have served Fred Thompson well. Many are from Ron Paul supporters. Others, though they may not state their allegiance, may presently support Governor Huckabee, Mayor Giuliani, or Senator McCain. Many of you are contemplating support of Governor Romney. My concern is that many are stating they are afraid that if he is elected President, he will “revert to his liberal past” or words to that effect.

With complete respect, I offer some information. First, many comments mention that Gov. Romney is a privileged man with a privileged upbringing; the inference being that he is out of touch with the average man and woman. Those who struggle day to day to provide for their families. I will save what I would like to write here for another future post. Suffice to say that Governor Romney has spent thousands of hours in silent service (one-on-one) of children, women, and men with struggles many of us will never know (crying with them; praying with them; helping them). That, as a lay leader in his church over many years. If you want to get a glimpse of the real man, click here —-> MESSED UP HAIR
(keep in mind that Governor Romney has never mentioned this, nor has he ever mentioned personal service rendered to others; unlike Mike Huckabee who has done so many times).
It is simply false that GMR has ever been liberal in any way. Even the label “pro-choice”, to which GMR admitted, is misleading because his actions, his behavior, his decisions have always been on the side of life. Why am I writing this to you at 2:00 in the morning instead of sleeping? Because too many good, strong conservatives have bitten into the hook of the liberal MSM (hook, line, and sinker) to simply accept the flip/flop label altogether without doing any primary research. I must admit I did too in 2006 before I conducted my own primary research. Don’t make a fatal mistake. Conduct your own, personal, primary research on the man and you will find what I did. That he has always been a consistent conservative.

Proof? Look at this simple flyer to contrast GMR’s positions to that of Senator Kennedy as GMR ran against him in the 90s. Click here ——-> THE REAL ROMNEY (remember, this campaign flyer showing Governor Romney’s positions, is from 1994)
But don’t take my word for it or even the content of this flyer that has been around for years. Please conduct your own research. It takes time, but you will discover, as I did, that the truth about the man is altogether different than what the MSM and Governor Romney’s competitors want you to swallow without thinking.
One good place to start is the following site. Click here —–> Encyclopedia Mittanica maintained by our own Mike Laub.
Lastly, for those of you who are just now discovering Governor Romney and wish to get different perspectives from those who have conducted extensive research into the man, the statesman, the husband/father, the volunteer, click here ——> WHY ROMNEY? (be sure to scroll down; there are dozens of entries)

Great post. It’s sad that so many conservatives have been tricked by the media into not knowing the real Mitt. Now I know every candidates’ supporters say that, but just do the research. Mitt is the kind of man I wish I could say I was. He’s the man I want for President of the United States!

I got a call from a buddy of mine that told me of how McCain is on the attack in Florida. He told me, “McCain must be living in fantasy land.” I said, “he has not been living in fantasy land, John McCain has been living in Washington for too long. It is up to us, the voters to make sure he does not come close to the White House.”

this man is a gumby. He showed no empathy for human services and only cared about big business wallet fattening.
he is a true gumby as well when he opens his mouth.
plz feel free to browse my anti-mitt campaign page. I’d love to show you what he did to my home state and how I can never figure out which side of his mouth he is speaking from.

‘the real mitt’— too funny… plz tell me.. would MA. residents know or maybe the Olympic committee..
either way, How can you see the real mitt? he does not show us. He shows snide remarks, slimy backdoor attacks and changing his answers to who he is speaking to.
all I see is that he cares about his hair gel allowance, thats been the only consistant.

This is a great article and reminds me of all the reasons Mitt should be president. Lately in online comment threads I have read a lot about why *not* to vote for McCain, very valid reasons, but not as much about why *to* vote for Mitt. As for “not a mitt fan,” your immature characterizations bear no weight without specifics and only make you appear petty.

Yes, I would know Mitt as a resident of Massachusetts. If you stop following the MSM agenda-based distortions you would find a spectacular person and family man. He oozes success and accomplishment.
As for empathy on human services, you might be best looking at a liberal dem candidate. Conservatives believe in removing barriers for personal achievement…not by giving out freebies and government takeover of lives. Yes, we have compassion…but for those willing to help themselves…not for generational slackers.
Is Mitt rather stiff collared? Yes…but just because he is not a comedian or a have affairs does that mean he would not make an great President? When has that become the qualifier? I want someone that shares my policy and vision for the USA and someone who is the best-of-the-best America has to offer as POTUS and the Leader of the Free World. If his policies and vision do not match your idealism, then fine…but personal attacks gain you nothing.
Other than government involvement in Life (ie, abortion) his stances have not changed. When you speak to different target audiences you emphasize points that interest them the most and phrase them accordingly. This is not pandering. As mentioned, abortion is he only policy change and that has been well chronicled on reasons for before and after. All other ‘flipflops’ are just nonsense if you really look at the facts.
Mitt uses the phrase “Listen to my words” alot when dealing with media and others that try to distort his comments. Words have meaning. Well educated people understand this. Biased pundits and editorialist ignore meanings for their own gain and spin. Actions also have Meaning…moreso than words. Look at his record…not the spinmeisters. Mitt was great for Massachusetts in a time of desperation for the state. The 93% democratic legislature tried blocking his every conservative effort. And yet, he got the job done with success. Talk about an uphill battle!
Recent polls show Mitt garnering over 50% of the republican primary vote. The only republicans/conservatives that dislike Mitt from MA are those that are disgruntled that he stuck us with a big liberal Deval Patrick for governor who is already killing the state after only 1 year.
Don’t embarass yourself with ignorance — get your facts right then make a justifiable opinion.

Vic, Don’t forget this story that never made it to the MSM when speaking to Mitt’s commitment to service.

LISARC:
Thanks for the note. However, I did include that very post in the body of my post above. You will find the link in the bold phrase: “MESSED UP HAIR”
Thanks again.

I will humbly submit another resource for people learning about the real Mitt and his record for the first time that began as my personal research notes long ago. It’s the Mitt Romney homepage at FreeRepublic.com. Mike Laub’s excellent Encyclopedia Mittanica mentioned by Vic and many dozens of other sources were used in preparing the dossier of Mitt Romney.
There are many topics addressed, but the sections in the Table of Contents titled “Conservative 1994 Platform,” “Romney’s Wealth,” and “Human Interest Stories.” are most pertinent to Vic’s post.

After I invested sometime and read about what Mitt has done with his life and saw him, time and again, my initial conviction expanded to concede of any of the candidates of either party, Mitt Romney offers something rare for America. I believe that his combination of experience combined with a genuine goodness is what is need for these times. The seminal moment for me was when he addressed a small group in Houston. His speech on religious liberty and faith for America moved me.
I read several comments throughout the newspapers and other journals. There was some opposition, as there always is, but overall people connected with the message and how the message was delivered by Mitt. I have spent the time rereading the speech and have watched it a few times by myself and with others. It has had a profound effect on the people who have watched it with me.
I believe as people come to see unfiltered Mitt Romney they will begin to understand what many on this site have come to know. That Romney offers some of the things that have been missing from America for a time. That is not to say the other leaders who have served this nation were not equal to the task for their time. Each President has brought with him certain skills and benefits.
Romney brings to the table, in these days, the critical skills needed to navigate through the emerging military, economic, and social challenges. I for one am grateful that such a man with his skills, intellect, and talents has chosen to make the sacrifice and run for President. Mitt Romney is truly, in every sense, an inspiring leader.

If Mitt is “cough” consistent and “cough, hack” conservative, can someone please tell me why he wrote the Republican Log Cabin Club (gay Republicans) promising them to “make equality for gays and lesbians a mainstream concern?” This is a direct quote from his letter.
And if he is “cough” a real conserative, why does he call President Clinton’s don’t ask, don’t tell policy “a step in the right direction?”
If he is “cough” principled, why didn’t he disband the Governor’s Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth until a year before he decided to run for president. And then only after it had been replaced by another Commission created by the Legislature?
The Gay and Lesbian Commission on Youth is basically an organization spending tax dollars to promote Gay and Lesbian Pride activities among youth. Hmmmm… I thought soliciting minors was illegal, but evidently if you call it Gay Pride and do it, you can get tax dollars to do it with.
So, maybe I agree that Governor Romney is “sigh” consistent. He’s consistently seemed to not oppose the homosexual movement enough in MA.
Check out his letter to the Log Cabin Republicans at
