What Questions Would You Liked Asked of Team Mitt?

January 23rd, 2008 Posted in Debates

Hey guys. I mentioned yesterday that I managed to snag press credentials for tomorrow night’s big debate in Florida. Aside from being cool just for being there, I also get to hang out in the Spin Room I can hopefully get some words from some of Gov. Romney’s surrogates.

There is the teensy problem that I’m a blogger, not a journalist and have no intention of becoming one in the next 30 hours. The art of the interview is weak with this one. So I thought I’d reach out to our readers (and bloggers) and ask them what questions THEY want answered.

Have at it in the comments section.

  1. Joe W Says:

Well, much will depend on the debate and what happens during it. I’d like to know what states they plan to focus on for Feb 2?

Also because of the negative press reaction to Mitt and his comparison ads earlier in the campaign; do they feel handicapped and unable to be aggressive in their campaign?

  2. Rody Says:

    Hi,

Romney is amazing, however one area that I would be interested in hearing more about is the environment. I know the main spill about getting off of foreign oil by using alternative energy will help the environment. I would be curious to know if there is any more thoughts for the environment outside of this main push for alternative energy.

  3. Sue B Says:

How can Mitt overcome the negligent, negative media? Most sites I visit either ignore him and tout McCain as the front-runner, or spin negitivity about him. Does he have a plan to bypass that and get his message out?

  4. tk Says:

What was Romney’s reaction to the joke his son played on him?

  5. John Says:

Ask Team Romney, if they are close to getting an endorsement from Jeb Bush or Rush? I wish I could be down there at FAU.
Thanks and have fun. Go Mitt!

  6. Stefany Clark Says:

I’m no journalist either, you’ll probably come up with better ones, but here are a few questions I’d ask:
    1. How does your economic stimulus package differ from others currently being proposed? Or why is yours the best?
    2. How would you specifically help the housing industry ie. devaluation of homes?
    3. What do you think of the fair tax?
    4. Where will you be traveling on February 5th?

  7. Boats Says:

Describe how your proposed investments in research and development in the auto industry equates to jobs being brought back into the state of michigan? How can this approach be applied to other industries and states?(a florida industry)
What other industries could stand an infusion of R & D monetary backing to enable those industries to bring jobs back into the US?
What is your position on building additional refineries in the US? What are the roadblocks to getting them built and how do you overcome them?
Taking a “country wide” view, what industries do you see as distressed presently? What industries in your estimation stand the chance of being distressed in the near future? What one proposal would you put forward to help each industry listed overcome their present or future roadblocks, ultimately resulting in job creation and a healthier economy?

Which occurs first, build a “fence” along the border OR taking invasive actions against employers who utilize illegal aliens, or can they be done simultaneously?
Why must illegal aliens travel back to their country of origin? If so, why?
If illegals must travel back to their country of origin, in what manner will it occur?

  8. John Says:

I just called the Gov. of Florida Charlie Crists office and left a message asking him to support Gov. Romney. The young lady that took the message said that he (Gov. Crist) has not made up his mind yet. Please help spread the word to all Floridians to call or e-mail the Gov. and ask for him to endorse Mitt.

  9. fran Says:

I would like to know his plans on tort reform.

President Bush talked a lot about this in 2000, but I never heard anything come of it.

I think that tort reform would go along way to helping our healthcare system.

  10. w Says:

how will he specifically tackle health care? what if the federalist approach only works for some of the states and others don’t want to participate?
Will he set up commissions to help each state create an insurance for all? Will he give them money directly?
How will it affect medicare, SCHIP, etc.

Since washington is “broken” how would he have handled the SCHIP legislation? Would he have worked with Democrats to get a bill that he supports?

  11. Stephen Says:

OK I am an avid Mitt supporter but there is one part of his economic policy that seems a bit, um, liberal. A carbon tax? Whoever got Mitt to go along with this, unless it is just a throw away line, needs to rethink the position. This is a european approach.

The reality is that all of this talk of alternative energy sources is hype. If energy companies, without government policy (restrictions) could make alternative energy that is profitable you would be experiencing it by driving cars than ran on different fuels. Mandating this type of garbage is why people aren’t buying, en mass, the three legged stool. You can’t have it both ways. Yeah, I for the free market but . . . green initiatives, global warming (a theory based on concensus) . . . reading it today made me wince.

However, the fact Mitt talked about clean buring coal gives me hope that what this is political speak. I can only hope.

So the question to Mitt is - Do you support removing much of the EPA’s influence to restrict the building of new oil refineries is the US?

Will you as President form stronger ties with Canada to secure a safe oil supply since Alberta has the second largest oil reserve in the world, just behind Saudi Arabia?

  12. Sam Says:

I would ask Kevin Madden or any others what Mitt Romney plans to do to overcome the clear bias against the governor and in favor of Senator McCain. Ask what he thinks about how liberal independents comprise all of McCain’s support and how the real Republicans support Romney.

  13. PJ Says:

Why do you always talk in generalities? Why don’t you get personal (in a good way) with that one person that you are talking to?

  14. sharon Z. Says:

Ask him why he talks down to African American voters? What’s with his comment s “Who LET THE DOGS OUT ? and MARTIN LUTHER KING WOULD SAY TO THESE KIDS DON’T HAVE BABIES UNTIL THEY’RE MARRIED” while he was in South Carolina? Why didn’t he make comments like this in Iowa and New Hampshire? These were very racist remarks.

  15. Mke Says:

How does Gov Romney plan to improve the US image in world opinion?

How does Gov Romney propose to keep illegal aliens from streaming across the Canadian border? Should we educate their children at US expense?

Gov Romney, you raised gas taxes in Massachusetts. How high will you raise national gas taxes as President?

Given your record at Bain for canabalizing small business to increase profits for the wealthy at the expense of workers, how do you intend to promote economic opportunity and respond to the current impending recession?

  16. Vic Lundquist Says:

EARTH to Mke: Your last statement shows your ignorance. If you would do a tiny bit of research, you would find that GMR’s work while at Bain had the effect of creating far, far more jobs than were ever lost. That is one reason you do not hear people criticizing him on that errant point. If they try, he is prepared to tell them how many jobs were created by his dozens of business turn-arounds and expansions.

Thomas: GOOD LUCK tomorrow night! One question I have for him and one I have been dying to ask him each time I think I might have the opportunity.

Q: Aside from the reading you have asked your team to prepare as daily briefs, which daily newspapers do you read regularly and prefer, and which periodicals do you read on a regular basis?

  17. BG Says:

    Question to Gov. Mitt Romney:

As a successful executive business leader and former governor, would you consider ending the capital gains tax for U.S. corporations to advance our economic wealth here at home and for our global business partners?

  18. Mildred Homan Says:

Ask him what his campaign is going to do to assure that Thompson’s supporters (his name remains on the ballot in Arkansas) will not lose their vote by voting for Fred and giving the advantage to Mike Huckabee and to the disadvantage of Romney.
