Spanish Language Romney TV Ad Going Up in Florida

January 21st, 2008 Posted in 5 Brothers, Campaign Ads, Craig Romney, Family, Mitt Romney, Spanish

Craig Romney narrates this ad that shows Romney as a proven leader, and family man. When Romney says he approves this message he says it in Spanish. How cool is that? You must check this out!

.

Insert - rough translation by Nate Gunderson:

Craig: The record of Mitt Romney speaks for itself: He was successful as a business man, he saved the Olympics, and as Governor of Massachusetts he lowered taxes and stimulated the economy.

But overall Mitt Romney is a family man - a great father, husband and grandfather. I know because Mitt Romney is my dad. I’m Craig Romney and I invite you to come to know my father better.

Mitt Romney - a leader who loves our nation, he understands our challenges and has the solutions to confront them.

Mitt: I’m Mitt Romney and I approve this message.

From almost any other politician this would anger me. But Mitt has been fighting for tough border stances even in his own state where he pass the wildly unpopular ability for state policeman to arrest illegals immigrants.

That said as Americans we should exercise the right to pick and choose which immigrants we let in based on our national interest and their history of law-abiding and work history.

I still think we should trade one angry white liberal media worker for one Christian Mexican worker. Call it the “American Dream Replacement Program”

That said if we cant get out border under control and start controlling what type of people are immigrating here the rest of the country will have crime explode and social safety net programs implode!

Also in Nevada Romney won the Hispanic vote in spite of or maybe because of his tough immigration policies.

I have no problem with this advert being in Spanish. It is not in conflict to say that you must learn English to become a US Citizen and recognizing that even so, it would be your second language and more difficult to understand by the voter. If you want to get your message out to 1st generation immigrants, doing it in their native tongue serves to get it out quickly without translation distortation….and obviously gets better attention by those voters who watch exclusively El Mundo TV ;-)

    Wow Craig. Nice accent.

This is a great ad. Hispanic voters should warm to Romney because of his family values. Having in-laws who speak Spanish only, I can say, there is no substitute for hearing a message in their own language. It is true that most non-English speakers cannot vote, but they can still be very influential within their circle of influence which normally includes many legal residents and citizens.

This ad should have been done in English in Iowa. Value voters in my opinion respond more to the emotional connection of seeing values in action than campaign rhetoric. This should be done in Florida in English, Spanish, and maybe even in Italian!
