Governor & Ann Romney — Service, Duty, Sacrifice

Following is a note I received from a friend of Governor and Ann Romney today. I ask that you read it carefully and consider his request:
As you know, I have sent out many appeals for financial support for Mitt’s Presidential Campaign, and many have been kind and gracious in their support — Thank you. We are at a very critical juncture in the campaign, having made great strides. You can go to Political Scene 2008 which offers further insight to the Republican Race.
Most recently, Lauren and I were in New Hampshire and Boston with the Campaign. We were talking with Mitt and Ann and sharing some of our feelings about this effort. Ann mentioned how she and Mitt are committing all that they have to this effort, be it financial resource and/or personal sacrifice. From our personal perspective, the sacrifice the Romney’s are making in this pursuit is beyond measure. They have given up all privacy and luxury for the sake of serving our nation. Both Mitt and Ann are engaged in this effort, surely not for personal self interest, but out of a sincere sense of duty and service. It is their commitment to duty and service that has driven Lauren and me in our support. We know Mitt and Ann, their heartfelt sense of duty and service, as well as Mitt’s depth of experience and competency that can make a significant difference in all of our futures. I have often said that this will be an economic election, and given the flatness of the world, we need someone of Mitt’s capacity to lead our nation.
While holding our granddaughter the other night, it became poignantly clear, that the times that we face in our country are critical. I thought to myself, what kind of world will our grandkids grow up in under the leadership of those running for office. I am more committed know that ever to Mitt’s effort.
Hopefully, you will join with us again, or for the first time if you haven’t made a contribution to this cause. Although we would ask for whatever you are able to give toward this effort, recognizing for many it is a sacrifice, we ask knowing of the sacrifice of Mitt and Ann, and Lauren and me. It is times such as this that sacrifices become necessary. Please consider the seriousness of this request, and the benefits that will be ours in this nation under Mitt’s leadership. If each who receives this email were to contribute $100, we would raise $30,000 for the campaign. Enough money to purchase significant media spots in key primary markets. If some were able to give more, even to the maximum of $2,300, the impact would be even greater.
Click here to make a contribution to Governor Romney —–> OFFICIAL CONTRIBUTION FORM (no contribution is too small — please contribute what you can)
Thank you for your kind consideration and support, and your willingness to listen and give again or for the first time.
Thank you so much,
David L. Parker, Co-Chairman — National Finance Committee │Romney For President
In the note I received from David, he attached a form for those who live in California who would like to attend a luncheon with Governor Romney on January 31st (Thursday) in Orange County. The luncheon is a campaign fundraiser at $1,000 per person and for those who wish to contribute the maximum of $2,300 will have a photograph taken by the campaign with Governor Romney. If you are interested in attending the luncheon with Governor Romney, please send me an email at vic.lundquist@gmail.com and place “LUNCHEON” in the subject line.
NOTE: If you have already maxed out at $2,300 in the primary season, you can now contribute the maximum for the general election. If for any reason Governor Romney does not win the nomination, you will receive any general election contributions back.

I like Mitt more and more as I am getting to know him better. I know he is going to do great job as being president of USA.

How can we get Mitt to Northern California? I am in Placer county, very conservative place, and I think there will be significant support for him in Northern Cal.

WOOHOO!! Mitt won Michigan–now it’s off to Nevada and South Carolina!!
I’ve been a little bit out of the loop lately, it’s been especially busy down at the embryonic stem cell research factory lately. We’re trying to use stem cells to grow a conscience for Republicans who still believe that George Bush is doing a good job in spite of the overwhelming evidence to the contrary; this is proving to be the most intractable problem we’ve ever faced. Every time we try, we come up with a perfect genetic copy of Rush Limbaugh’s ass. Curious indeed, but we’ll keep working on it.
Anyhoo…how about our boy Mitt? He finally won the gold medal all his adoring legions were praying for (when they weren’t busy praying for a plague of angry, rabid locusts to descend upon the McCain and Huckabee camps).
But it’s not just that Mitt won that is most exciting for his supporters, it’s HOW he won. Taking a page from Bush’s playbook, Mitt has chosen to bank on the stupidity of the Republican electorate. Quite simply, he lied—and the people loved it!! Republicans, it seems, have an incredible propensity to ignore what they know in their gut about a person, and choose instead to accept statements they know not to be true, but which are spoken in a confident, reassuring way. A couple of weeks ago Mitt was playing the part of a small government conservative, but in Michigan he morphed into a big government economic liberal, backing a $100 billion bailout for the auto industry…the people of Michigan forgot about the old Mitt, they loved the new one! He denounced the increase of the corporate CAFE standards last week in Michigan, completely at odds with his previous statements, but once again, Michiganders ignored Mitt’s past statements and focused on the new Mitt. Forget his past support in gay rights, the new Mitt says that he despises gays, and Republicans love it! Ignore my past support of abortion rights, says Mitt, focus instead on my new position against those same rights. Republicans dutifully comply! Pay no attention to his past record in Massachusetts where he increased taxes and fees by a total of $700 million, he says that he’s a committed tax cutter, and people simply accept it! He asks that we ignore his history of slashing jobs as a corporate raider at Bain Capital, focus instead on his re-invention as a supporter of job growth…and we do! He’s found the formula for success; simple prevarication. Given that this is at the core of the man, his stock in trade so to speak, he seems at this point to be a shoo-in for the nomination!
It’s has been pointed out repeatedly that Mitt has been on both sides of nearly every major issue. Rational people might see this as a liability, but many Republicans (principally of those who still support Bush, one presumes) don’t see it that way. Rather than focus on his hyper-aggressive flip flopping, they dutifully do what Mitt asks and focus on his latest incarnation. Mitt’s campaign seems predicated on the belief that most Republicans are either stupid enough or have poor powers of recollection (ideally both) to put him over the top. So far it seems to be working. Go Mitt!

Don’t worry Phil. You haven’t been missed.
The fact that you bring up the point that Mitt raised taxes and fees by $700 million shows me your not a disciple of truth but of twisted spin. Makes it pretty easy for me to decide not to read the rest of you have to say.
Talk about poor powers of recollection, it seems you are only able to recall what the media tells you.
Tell me - who are you supporting for the nomination? Have you got nothing better to do than to tear down others rather than support the one you feel is best qualified?

nice read,
How come neither of these articles has been referenced here(maybe i missed it)? They were two of the best I’ve read in weeks/months that helped me get my head around the condition and direction of Mitts campaign.

Dear Mr. Lundquist and Mr. Parker,
I have decided to make another contribution to Gov. Romney’s campaign. Last time I contributed I mailed a check using the printout on http://www.MittRomney.com I was going to do the same today but I really want to contribute now. My question is – If I use a credit card, doesn’t the credit card company get a fee (3-5% or more)? I would rather pay for a first class stamp than pay $$ to Visa. Oh! And do you know of any fund matching opportunities? Thanks.
January 18th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
YAWN! I am done why… I am not going to listen to all hypes and personal attacks because now I know… what people are trying to do… GOOD NEWS! An Anti-Romney tool has been EXPOSED- BIG TIME it has to do with flip-flop thing! It made a whole lot of a difference… Check out this article-
http://www.vanderbilt.edu/news/releases/2008/1/18/vanderbilt-poll-explains-why-romneys-flip-flopper-label-sticks-political-scientist-says-anti-mormon-bias-finds-cover
NOTE: Even if I still hear Well, but… - you all ANTI-ROMNEY whiners/stabbers have been blown out of water anyway… really… better yet come out of hiding… YOU HAVE BEEN EXPOSED!
there is nothing about Mitt that is horrible. He has no skeletons in his closets, he is open to everybody as he always offer “ASK MITT ANYTHING!” to anybody that has questions about this or that. He wants you to know him better. He is reaching out to you… Because of this, he is the better person, he is an eagle- not a turkey! Also… He does not care about personal attacks and will not deal with them, why? Historically speaking, He’s so USED to it… (He will merely laugh… get real! bashings will get you no where…) nothing can weaken his resolve to lead AMERICA and us AMERICANS into better tomorrow! MITT is the man!
GO MITT!

To Mark VA
If you have not, then Go to http://www.MittRomney.com you can make a contribution there using your card… it’s very easy to do.
ALL OTHERS
For those of you who contributed in the past, please consider doing it again unless you have maximized your contribution. Still, you can contribute toward his general election fund. Mitt said that if he ends not being the nominee, you will GET YOUR MONEY BACK! What’s the risk… give his TEAM MITT Campaign more bucks to spread Mitt’s word around the nation.
GO MITT!

Nate,
Sorry that you haven’t missed me, I’ve surely missed you! You know, Mitt makes a point about not having raised taxes during his governorship, but he sure as hell raised fees. If you’re the one paying I don’t suppose it makse much difference whether you call it a tax or a fee, it costs you the same. The source for the raised fees if that liberal rag the Boston Globe. I suspect that you’ll discount what they say too.
By the way, Mitt just refined his position on stem cells, he loves them all dearly, except for the gay ones. Do you think that’s putting to fine a point on it?
Good luck this weekend! Keep praying for McCain and Huck to get hit by a bus!

A fee is one time fee for use. Maybe annual, maybe covers several years, maybe covers lifetime, as in the case of some hunting fees, etc.
A tax takes a % of your paycheck (or sale) and grows and grows with every extra dollar you make (or spend).
There is a pretty big difference. I think the rational was fees have not been raised in many years in some areas.
It is much better in the long run for tax payers and those interested in providing LESS money, to pay fees rather than percent based taxes.
Fees pay for use. Taxes pay for government growth.

I’ve made my 4th donation just yesterday and am planning to donate more as the campaign moves on. I apologize for going off topic, but does anyone close to the campaign knows if Mitt will be attending the March for Life next Tuesday in D.C.?
I think by attending and giving his conversion speech to the crowd would help his
appeal to Pro Lifers greatly. Thank you.
January 18th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
Mark and others: I checked with the campaign. They prefer the credit card contributions because they are instant and they are trying to raise as much money fast for Florida. This is very important. Great question. At this original post, mid-way down, you will find the official campaign form for online contributions. Again, THANK YOU.
Phil, if you have not checked lately, GMR has been in first place in the delegate count since New Hampshire. Nobody has eclipsed GMR in the delegate count yet.
As to the fees point. Non-issue. That has been put to rest so many times that when people like you raise it, it makes you look like you are digging and desperate. Look at the percentage of the fees related to the taxes not raised and the surplus at the end of the day. As well, fees go right to the users, not spread over all taxpayers. That is the point. He was saving all taxpayers (except the tiny few who use the specific services) a ton of money overall. Lastly, when you remove the fees that were required from the previous governor’s administration and you remove the loop-holes GMR closed (good thing), the actual percentage of revenue gained by raising taxes is so tiny it is not even worth mentioning (except by you as distraction).
You could do a lot more good by focusing on all the waste and corruption generated in Arkansas by Duckabee.

Phil
Mitt never raised TAXES but fees… CLEAR? NO BUTS!
LOOK! Tax and Fee are two different things!
Fee is what you pay for services you use. Of course… Mitt was wise to raise some fees because they were never raised for many years!
AFor example I pay an annual fee to renew my car license tag, I pay an annual fee for my credit card, I pay an annual fee to renew my state counseling certification, I pay an annual fee for my wholesale food store membership, … etc… get it?!
Tax is what you pay for services that other people use.
For example I have to pay taxes for schools, even though I do not send my kid to a public school! CRAZY isn’t it? My money goes to kids who go to public school, it does not benefit my kid at all! CUT TAXES PLEASE! And I know MITT will!
Am I willing pay fees yes sure! if it means better services for me…
Am I willing pay taxes definitely not! NO FAIR! especially when it comes to education!
GO MITT!
January 18th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
Fellas,
Your impassioned defense of Mitt to the contrary, the people of Massachusetts were required to pay $700 million more as a result of Mitt’s revenue raising strategies. You seem to be rationalizing that it is OK for the government to take more money out of the pockets of its citizens is OK as long as you call it a fee and not a tax. Bizarre!
January 18th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
Phil-
First of all, the total amount that Romney is accused of raising taxes is $650, rounded up to $700 million for greater effect. Let’s take a look at that $650 Million:
$260 Million - Passed before Romney took office - took effect while in office. Shouldn’t even be credited to him. Thus the number should actually be $390 Million. All of which Governor Romney has readily owned up to.
$240 Million - Raised fees on per-use services. This is much different than a tax is that the person who receives the service pays for it - not the taxpayers in general. It’s a less big-brother government approach - or I would say more conservative. This is a fair way to fund as long as that fee is not exorbitant. In MA the fee for a marriage license was only $5! The national average was $40. MA’s fee was raised to $40. Increased fees were only raised to a normal amount whereas they were covered with tax money before. I am perfectly fine with that.
$150 Million - Closed corporate loopholes. I am not for taxing corporations more, but I am not for them wiggling their way through tax laws in order to skip paying a fair share of taxes. As anyone against actually closing loopholes? No.
January 18th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
cheap shot Phil:
Rather than take cheap, pot shots at the best candidate in the race, why not divulge yours? You won’t because he does not even hold a candle to GMR. Let’s see how good you are at defending your man.
It is probably Mr. John Amnesty McCain. See post I just put up on McCain. Anybody who knows anything about him would never vote for him, unless a liberal.
So Phil, step up. Man up.
January 18th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
I have already asked him Vic. He seems unwilling to express commitment to anything except trolling.
January 19th, 2008 at 11:40 am
Guys,
Sorry I was unable to reply sooner; unlike the adoring masses worshiping Mitt on this and other blogs, I’m actually involved in the workforce.
Anyhow, a couple of comments. First, I’m not a McCain supporter. I feel that any of the Republican candidates would be better than Mitt who, despite his superior resume and experience, is simply a shameless liar. Of course all the Democrats would be preferable as well.
Secondly, I have to commend you and all the others who are doing the rapid-fire posting on this site. I’m amazed at your ability to type so well given the fact that your lips are permanently affixed to Mitt’s ass. Great work!
January 20th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
Phil, no need to reply. You never offer up any information, unlike all others on this site. You are the shameless commenter. You don’t even have the courage to man-up and tell us who you support as superior to GMR.
Unless you have anything even remotely valuable to contribute to the debate, I invite you to never return to this site. You have no right to be demeaning to any person, let alone all of those seeking truth.
GMR’s reputation and character are above reproach, unlike yours. For you to call GMR a liar is a direct reflection on your character, not his. Please refrain from posting here until and unless you are able to bring facts and reveal who you support. Until then, whoever you support is well behind GMR in the delegate count. That means something.
Phil, if you continue to make baseless and empty statements as you have above, you will be banned from the site.
January 20th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
Phil,
I agree with Vic that you need to leave this site. Your words tell me that you are so biased against him just because he’s a Mormon, period. In addition to this, sorry to say… I believe you are either ignorant or stubborn. Truth is a stubborn fact that will never go away… so pack your baggage and leave this site, please.
Vic,
Please do not let him come here any more… I am sick of people like him. There must be zero-tolerance for those people at this stage.
Regardless of what MSM pundits and other people say, Mitt is doing fine even after his 4th place. We must work hard(er) to do two things… Florida and Arizona… two of several “winner takes it all” states. Make it happen for Mitt! Mitt Grab both…
Why Florida? (Jan 29) People are seeing this state as the new “South Carolina” and that a win in South Carolina really means very little.
Why Arizona? (Feb 5) To show that people is really done with McCain and want a fresh face in Washington.
Finally, whatever may happen… we must stick together to the end! GO MITT!
Interesting note:
Mitt won in Nevada because of a very large number of volunteers spreading the word, talking about him why they want people to consider Mitt… we really cannot sit back and blog back and forth if we do nothing further.
Be bold in talking about Mitt and it will make a difference. McCain seems to have a better luck with only Independents, work on people who are on the fence, you know. Talk with them about security and prosperity, and why Mitt is the best.
GO MITT!
