Primary Results and Schedule Updated Jan 15.

January 16th, 2008 Posted in 2008, Michigan, Primaries & Caucuses

Update: I was able to verify the delegate counts for Michigan. It required adding 10 for Romney, reducing McCains by 4, and adding 1 to Huckabee. The new totals are reflected in the tables below.

Noteworthy: Romney has received more than half of all delegates awarded at this time.

The information above was taken from Wikipedia (schedule) and CNN.com (results). There are several different tallies out there on what the current delegate count is. I used CNN.com’s tally not because it showed Romney with the largest lead, but that it had the most detailed info including ALL delegates that have been awarded so far, and I was able to verify most of the info from the individual state GOP websites.

Question: In tabulating Delegates, what does the ‘Other’ category mean under GOP primary results?

Answer: (From commenter SGS) Not all delegates are allocated to the candidates based on the states’ primaries. There are about 400 delegates (out of about 2000s) that are reserved to the Republican “insiders”, like state and national RNC leaders. They normally do not declare who they are in favor of until the party convention. But they can do so at any time.

Lots of great articles today. Quick read the new york times before they find out there are NO democrat narratives in it! A few good paragraphs about how Romney has worked harder then anyone else to put he Humpty Dumpty Reagan coalition back together. The article was informative accurate and objective… must be some new guy at the NYT he’ll be gone soon!

Thank you for the charts! Why is it so difficult to find this information anywhere in the MSM? I appreciate your efforts to get us the numbers. Go Mitt!

    Nate,

I just saw on CNN online that they have the delegate count for Michigan @ 22 for Mitt 5 for McCain and 1 for Huckabee.

For updating purposes. I have been adjusting the spreadsheet that I have concocted according to the win and the forecast for future states.

Does anybody else think that Thompson will drop out before Super Tues. if he doesn’t at least get 2nd in South Carolina?

Does anybody know how delegates of people that drop out are allocated? Does it go to the next person in line?

If Guliani gets 3rd or worse in Florida does he stay in until after Super Tues?

He has 1 delegate to date and is currently showing in a 4 way “tie” in FL. That would be the boost that he would need and if he doesn’t get it it would seem best for him to drop at that point.

Just some outside persective on all of this. I don’t like the way the pundits try to spin it and make Mitt look like he is “holding on” at every turn.

  4. SGS Says:

Nate!!!! Mitt has 22 delegates from Michigan now, not 12!!!! McCain, 5 instead of 9!!! Huckabee receives 1.

The figures from last night was projected, but the numbers now are for sure! There is still 2 more yet to be given, for a total of 30.

  5. Nate Gunderson Says:

It’s changed now. Other reports were showing those totals last night. I didn’t use those yet because I have been using CNN’s count all along. It would have seemed that I was picking only sites that had the best count for Romney. I did put a note on it to say that I would update it when it could be verified. Just got it done a few minutes ago.

  6. SGS Says:

Nate, oh yes, we know. CNN did show the number, 12 for Mitt and 9 for McCain, last night. We are just (very excitedly) letting you know CNN has updated their delegate chart. Thank you.

  7. David D Says:

Why are the news shows such as Fox and CNN reporting only the Dems to be in Nevada on 1/19? Aren’t the Republicans there also?

  8. SGS Says:

David, yes, Republicans too will have their caucus in Nevada this Saturday (19th). I do not know why Fox and CNN are not saying it. But then, the MSM has been reporting like, 10 times, more about Democratic race than they do with Republican race.

  9. Jake Says:

According to Reuters 1,200 people participated in the Wyoming caucuses. That means Mitt got about 800 votes there. Not sure if you want to add that though since it’s not official.

  10. ChuckP Says:

It would be nice if you added one additonal detail to your table; which of the upcoming states are winner take all.

  11. Nate Gunderson Says:

    ChuckP

Will do, in a couple of hours.
