Mitt’s Mich. Campaign Warns of Trickery
This just in, more dirty tricks from Romney opponents desperate to stop the leader in delegate count and the candidate at the top of the national polls.

From Romney’s Michigan state Director Jason McBride in an e-mail to state supporters:
Dear Michigan Voter,
The focus of this election has now turned to Michigan. In the coming days, each Republican campaign will be engaged in an intense effort to make contact with each potential voter. Yet, while some will engage in an effort to turn out their vote, third party groups will be engaged in a campaign to discourage the supporters of their opponents. Based upon reports from Iowa and New Hampshire, you should expect:
Anonymous E-Mails Or Fake E-Mails: In both Iowa and New Hampshire, voters received emails that appeared to be coming from Romney for President but were actually meant to suppress support for Gov. Romney. In both states, voters received email messages from “Team Romney” touting the endorsement of the Log Cabin Republicans. The truth is that the Log Cabin Republicans have launched attack ads against Gov. Romney. They do not support the governor and oppose his strong defense of traditional marriage in America.
Nuisance Calls: In New Hampshire, Romney supporters received calls from California numbers late at night. The callers claim to be Romney staffers. These “staffers” will call back time and again late at night. These calls are intended to reflect poorly upon Gov. Romney and his campaign. We are committed to nothing but professionalism.
Push Polling: In both Iowa and New Hampshire, voters received out-of-state calls from supporters of Gov. Mike Huckabee claiming to run an impartial survey. However, once a voter identified themselves as a Romney supporter, they were subjected to negative information about the governor. The information received is patently false.

Gee fellas, you guys are backpedaling almost as furiously as the Mittster himself, trying to lower expectations about the dreaded results in Michigan while at the same time looking for somebody, anybody, to blame it on. Trickery…push polling…lemmings (?!)…liberals…whispering…meddling…unions…What will be the next advance excuse on which to blame Mitt’s expected poor performance? Hillary’s alien baby perhaps?
C’mon guys, face facts. Mitt’s performance has nothing to do with any of those silly reasons you suggest. People simply don’t like or trust the guy. And Mitt can’t seem to help himself. In the SC debate he contends that the lost jobs in Michigan will actually return, nobody on earth (including Mitt) actually believes that, but he thinks that by saying it that he will be viewed as a can-do optimist. Instead people just roll their eyes and think “there he goes again, saying something that everybody (including himself) knows is not true” in an attempt to pander to the lowest common denominator republicans. It’s sad, and sadly for you guys, it ain’t working.
But anyhow, good luck defending yourself against the lemmings, squirrels, chipmunks, woodchucks and other rodents who are apparently targeting the Romney campaign. Being such a successful and regular hunter, I’m sure that Mitt can handle them.
Have a nice day

All Romney supporters, let’s make a push for donations on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, the day after the Michigan primaries. The media and the other Republican candidates are trying to push MITT out because they know he is strong.
I will be a first time donor. If you haven’t donated, donate on that day. If you already donated, do it again on that day, even if it’s just $10.
Now the hard part, commit to finding five more people who will donate on that day. We have to get up off our duffs and do something or a good man may go down, and we will wonder why. Also, try to get your five donors to commit to finding five more donors.
I may only get a little tree here in New Mexico, but if everybody else gets a small tree, we may just create a forest.
COMMIT TO MITT.
DONATE ON JANUARY 16, 2008.

Thanks for the (mistaken) insight, Phil,
No other candidate has created more jobs in our economy than Governor Romney. He’s simply the only one with a credential here.

Phil does make a good point, but here’s the real problem:
1. People aren’t paying enough attention
2. They are relying on the media (and their Sunday pulpit) to inform themselves in a cursory fashion
3. The information they receive from these channels is often incomplete, filtered, spun by those with an agenda, and sometimes ridiculously false
4. This leads to many false and undeserved impressions
Governor Romney is just too above board to employ the questionable tactics of other candidates, their campaigns, and their unscrupulous supporters.
Oh, and the funny thing about can do optimists, some of them are actually successful. They just have to ignore the naysayers. Governor Romney certainly has an excellent track record in that regard. So blather on if you must, his record of achievement stands for itself and certainly counters the negativism with which many see the world. If you aren’t going to help, at least have the decency to get out of the way so those of us with a positive vision of the future can get to work.

Mitt will have his turn to speak to the Economic Club on Monday in Michigan I believe. Look for it to be a strong contrast to the Huckster appearance. Oh and Phil…Mitt actually has a history of going into dire situations and turning around companies and organizations, when no one thought it possible. Can you say the same about your candidates?
