Mike Huckabee’s Support Derives ALL from ‘Religious Lemmings’

December 13th, 2007 Posted in Mitt Romney

What is behind the great Huckaboom in Iowa? In two words: “Religious Lemmings” — Pure and simple. That is all. Is that enough for Huckabee to win in Iowa? It could be enough for him to win. That is if all the intelligent Evangelicals decide to vote for a pastor in chief. I happen to believe that the vast majority of Iowa voters are very bright people and would not intentionally throw away their vote.

Why do I say that Huck’s success is all based on religion? Consider these factors that all conservative voters in Iowa would have to ignore, even cast aside to still support the man from Hope:

  • The man is totally squishy on crime. Consider: He commuted the sentences of or pardoned 1,033 convicts, including 12 murderers! That is 1 convict every 4 days! How many did Governor Romney have: ZERO
  • In recent weeks we learned that four parole board members all said Huck exerted tremendous pressure to release his born again buddy DuMond; Huck’s reply? That all four are lying. “In the mouth of two witness . . . “
  • Immigration: His track record is such that he would grant all kinds of bennies for illegal aliens, thinking nothing of who pays for them. Every benefit Huck either supported or promoted as governor came to the desk of Governor Romney in one form or another and he vetoed them all!
  • Spending: In Huck’s tenure, spending was his friend. Spending went from $6.7 billion to $16 billion. That is an enormous increase in spending folks!
  • Taxes: I don’t have all night to list all the taxes he raised. Suffice to say, it does not appear there is a tax Huck dislikes.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Huckabee accepted over $110,000 in gifts from from dozens of sources with no thought at all of impropriety. His reply? “I did not break one law in accepting those gifts!” Well, whoooopteedoooo! It is a really good thing that the U.S. government passed a law that dictates that all gifts to a President are “Gifts to the people of the United States” and therefore cannot be kept by the President and his family! [just in case he somehow made it]

Granted, there might be a bleeding heart conservative or two that would support Mike Huckabee given all the facts that keep streaming out every new day, but by in large, the vast majority of his support is from those who only back him because he is Baptist. Religion is not only the most important thing to these voters, for most of them, it is the ONLY THING that matters to them. It is obvious that for those who support and promote Mike Huckabee because of his religion, really have no other good reason to promote him.

Huck

The voters of Iowa are notoriously independent and take their votes very seriously. I honestly believe that most will take a very intelligent approach to the process and ultimately will not throw away their vote for a weak manager.

In actuality, all voters (except the one or two bleeding heart conservatives) in Iowa who decide to cast their vote for Huck are intentionally placing blinders over their eyes and muffs over their ears and have decided to be lemmings in faith.

Making completely false statements about a candidate reflects poorly on you, your ability to do research using the very medium you choose to write, and also reflects poorly on the candidate you choose to throw your support behind.

A good portion of your blog is covered by three pictures of huckabee.

    Truthinads:

Please correct me. My intent is to be completely factual and I believe that I am. Please show me where we are wrong. And thank you.

    Truthinads:

And if I am wrong, what are all the reasons people are following Huck if not solely for his religion? Under any circumstances, he certainly is not the most conservative nor the toughest on crime or immigration, huge issues in Iowa.

By the way, if I am wrong, it has nothing to do with Governor Romney or his campaign as we are not affiliated at all with him or his campaign. If I am wrong, as you will point out, then I will change the post and I will admit I am wrong.

    Truthinads
Sounds to me like your dad didn’t play catch with you enough when you were a little guy (or gal). That said, was it so necessary for you to bash Vic comments which, by the way, ARE based in fact? Such blatant negative rhetoric is neither constructive nor instructive. A retort usually consists of counterpoints, not throat-cutting.

The tide is comming in Mike Novak, National Review, Governor of Nebraska etc. Key influential people are throwing there support behind Mitt Romney. As much as I love Walker Texas Ranger and Oprah they wont make me sway becuase Mitt has a great record unlike Chuckabee!

I rather prefer the name “Duckabee”, the name given him by Laura Ingraham as she played an interview with Huck in which he is ducking and weaving to give his non-answer to an immigration question. The whole time she was playing his answer, you could hear a “voice over” duck quacking in the background.

Talk about priceless! “Duckabee” now replaces my former best: “Huckster”

Still awaiting Truthinads’s reply to correct all my errors.

Anybody catch the reference to “southeast end of San Clemente Island” above?

Here are a couple limmericks I came up with when I was so inspired by Governor Mike Duckabee:

There once was a governor named Huck,
Who ran for president with only a buck.
    He laughed and he joked,
    And when confronted he choked,
And that was the end of that bloke.

    **********************

There once was a governor named Huck,
And the Liberal Dems couldn’t believe their luck!
    They pushed for the nod
    From the GOP bod
So they’d win and Republicans would be stuck — with a loser!

    **********************

My thought on 12-11-7 upon reading of National Review’s endorsement of Mitt Romney for President:

Do you hear that noise - like a distant wind?

It is the sound of a hugh collective sigh from all good and true conservatives everywhere.

    Thank goodness for this endorsement.

The tidal wave of truth is swelling and Huckabee is going to drown in it if he doesn’t know how to swim.

In fact, all those lies and half-truths hanging around Huckabee’s neck will, no doubt, be too heavy, and carry him under the waves.

Thanks Martin (#2). I re-sized the pictures so it fits and doesn’t cover the text. Apparently it only does that in IE, because it looked fine in Firefox.

I hate to say it Vic but I think you are more right than even some Iowans would want to think. Did Huck’s surge really ramp up the week after he spoke to a large group of pastors? If so, are they the ones enabling he ascent despite having little resources? Also, the fact that his surge happened so quickly seems to suggest that it is based on perceptions and not on substance. The major perception seems to be that of religious bias. Romney has avoided time and again any issue that might entangle religion and politics (”my faith doesn’t define my candidacy”) while at the same time Huck’s Iowa numbers have gone up the more he entangles religion and politics (”my faith really defines me”). Huck’s recent statements ands tactics are the very antithesis of Romney’s FIA speech. If he wins on religious intolerance I fear it will come back around (The left already looks down on us largely for religious reasons). Substance takes much more time. Romney has substance I just hope he has the time.

  11. Slick-Willy Says:

Vic: Because of the truthinads bash I searched your article for anything that was not 100% accurate. The only thing I can find is you said, “Huck would send every person with HIV or Aids to the southeast end San Clemente Island to live out the rest of their lives — segregated.” Technically, Duckabee “would have,” but no longer “would.” Pointing out that distinction is pretty weak and pointless… I’m sure that’s why Captain Truth decided to slander you generally rather than point out one insignificant deficiency.

We should not be surprised. As Giuliani has been criticized for relating everything back to 9/11, Duckster & Co. have a predictable approach. Duckster’s Golden Rule: Avoid Substance at All Times! Method: (1) Deny (2) Ad Hominem (3) Claim Ignorance (4) Make an “apology” that fails to apologize, but denies any wrongdoing.

Obviously, only follow this method as far as necessary depending on public outrage.

  12. Vic Lundquist Says:

    Slick:

Thanks. I deleted that section completely. Thanks for the “due diligence.”

  13. Wendy Says:

Huckabee supporters please set aside your religious support for Huckabee for a moment and tell me what you think about Huckabee’s record as stated in the article above. These are the huge concerns I have with Huckabee. You are his supporters and I need to know how you feel about these records. If these issues are not addressed I can’t see how I can vote for him. I am weary of the bashing and I really do want the Republican Party to survive this election year and to win the election next November. We need to have the best, the brightest, and the most qualified candidate. It appears that Mike Huckabee has some fiscal and ethical issues.
