Huckabee Expects Evangelical Nepotism (Lemmings)

WHAT IF GOVERNOR ROMNEY WERE TO SAY THIS ABOUT MORMONS?

Now, just imagine for a moment what would happen if Romney were to say about Mormons what Huckabee says here about Evangelicals. This is stunning language. Am I the only one blown away by Huckabee’s assertion here? Click this link just below:

What if Romney said, “Every member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints should support LDS members running for public office and if they don’t, there will be “a chilling effect” in this nation (community, county, state…).”

If Governor Romney said anything like this, his political career would be over. Why does Huckabee get a pass?

First of all, you would never hear a member of the LDS church ever say what Huckabee said or anything remotely like it. But just for the fun of it, what do you think the MSM and the rest of the world would do if Governor Romney had made a comment about Mormons as Huckabee did about Evangelicals?

From discussions with people of other faiths, many are surprised to find out that never in an LDS church would a candidate be promoted or would there be comments from the pulpit against any candidate. For many reasons, including the tax exempt status, political discussions are strictly avoided in all LDS churches. In fact, if an LDS candidate were to say anything remotely similar to what Huckabee says in this clip, many LDS members would do the opposite and run from the candidate!

Does Huckabee expect all Evangelicals to not use their minds and simply become lemmings for him?

If this statement by Huckabee is acceptable by Americans of faith, and Romney stating something similar would not be acceptable, is there a double-standard at play here?

If this statement by Huckabee is acceptable, why would it not be acceptable for Romney to say such a thing about Mormons?

And what about all the Evangelical leaders that have endorsed Governor Romney? Are they part of the “chilling effect” to which Huckabee refers?

It is probable that this Huckabee expectation is in part the reason Jimmy Carter was elected President. Carter is now considered one of the least effective and worst presidents this nation has ever had. What does that say about entire religious groups supporting one candidate?

“Who does not see that the same authority which can establish Christianity, in exclusion of all other religions, may establish with the same ease any particular sect of Christians, in exclusion of all other sects?”

Your point is good and it made me think of how our church does not endorse candidates, as Prophet Hinkley has not endorsed Mitt. In fact, the church would lose its tax-exempt status if it did that. That says something very powerful about the neutrality of the LDS church. Unfortunately, it’s a point that I believe may not register with evangelicals. Mitt’s comment about the LDS church also being the church of Democrat Harry Reid was totally lost on the Value Voters, as we all remember. I think it boils down to what prejudice is really all about. Those in the majority have no clue what it’s like to be in the minority. They just accept their mainstream status as the norm, and strive to keep it that way. It’s interesting how in this election we have so many candidates who are from the minority: Obama (black), Clinton (woman), Giuliani (Italian mafia), McCain (senior citizen), etc. Huckabee is really just the status quo, an average Joe. A guy you’d want to have a beer with. This must be the secret to his popularity. But don’t we want something more from a President? Isn’t that the mistake everyone made with Bush II? Hopefully, Romney can somehow stir people with his speech, and make them think twice before pulling the lever for Huckabee.

I think it is a shame that many of the people who are giving Mike Huckabee a pass on his illegal imigration softness were in the crowd that came down hard on John McCain for being wrong on imigration. For some reason it is OK for Mike.

By the way whoever posted first, your comment has me cracking up.

Yes, I agree with you Tim. It is hysterical, isn’t it? John McCain (Senior Citizen)…classic. Thanks Leslie for the laughs :)

    Scribes, Pharisees and Huckabees! Hypocrites!!!

What a bigot is Huckabee! He pretends to now know much about the Mormon faith (probably sponsored his own anti-Mormon cult classes), and then naively questions a doctrine out of context that he knows would be incendiery!

He is alienating the very people whose support he needs if he somehow gets the nomination! That is 6 Million less votes he should have in a general election!
