Mitt Romney Targeted by Sensationalists — A Matter of Integrity

Blogger Soren Dayton (email: soren.dayton@gmail.com) this week seemed to have little else to write about than the Western Wats (WW) story on his politics site. The problem is he is so obsessed and consumed with the notion that somehow Governor Romney’s camp is involved that he has refused to correct false information on his site; information that he has known is false for at least two days now. For if he were to correct all the false statements, he would have no story, he could no longer follow the sensationalized line of blogging, and apparently would have nothing else to write about.

Mr. Dayton and I have exchanged at least five emails regarding his false and completely misleading statements.   In each response, he basically told me there is nothing to correct and refuses to publish any retractions or to edit the false posts. Here are the false statements still showing on his blog and which he refuses to take down:

False Statement #1:

First, Western Wats, an Orem, UT based phone vendor made the phone calls. They have refused to deny these claims. The Lindorf family — Ron Lindorf is the Chairman and Founder of Western Wats — refuses to answer questions about why they are placing anti-Mormon phone calls. Note that that the Lindorf family is Mormon. This suggests that, at least, Ron Lindorf, a Mormon, is complicit in anti-Mormon phone calls.

Yesterday I posted here to show how Dayton’s assertions of Gov. Romney being friends of the Lindorf family are false. Dayton replied in one email that he would post a statement as to why he made the leap to this conclusion and he did not do that. In fact, the post he published to lead his visitors to the erroneous conclusion is still on the site and based on our email exchanges, he has no intention of removing it.

As to the false statement above: It has been widely and correctly reported that the founder of WW, Ron Lindorf, sold the company a couple of years ago and has no affiliation with the company at all. Justin Hart over at MyManMitt , and others have correctly reported that the Lindorf family has no affiliation at all with WW.

False Statement #2:

In other words, the NH AG is investigating a possible crime. It is unclear to me who exactly committed that crime, but Western Wats — and the Lindorf family — probably know, but refuse to answer, claiming protection under “confidentiality.” Of course, those confidentiality rules disappear under discovery.   A number of Romney political allies also use this firm.

Dayton probably has not figured out that the Lindorf family may not be responding to requests because they have no idea what the heck is going on as they are not affiliated with the company.   But one thing is clear:   Dayton knows they are not.

Third False Statement +:

All through Dayton’s blog he makes references to Mormons as if there is some grand conspiracy linked to Gov. Romney. Again, reported widely now for two days, the ownership of WW is on the East coast, the owner is a firm, and the top brass of WW are not Mormon. Justin Hart of MyManMitt has had outstanding coverage of this matter, information that Dayton has intentionally decided to ignore to perpetuate his sensationalism.

Statements Impugning Justin Hart’s Integrity:

Click just above to see the entire post. Here, Dayton states this:

Justin Hart, blogger at MyManMitt and Race42008, is the only person who seems to be in contact with people inside Western Wats.

Dayton implies here that Justin Hart is lying about his WW contact when he uses the word “seems.” And he further makes the leap that because Justin serves in the Romney campaign as a volunteer, that this exclusive WW contact is somehow based on some desire of WW to only speak through Romney’s campaign. Come on! What a stretch! I spoke to Justin who said that he made like 10+ phone calls to the company trying each time to use the answering directory to dial through to an employee. He successfully contacted a knowledgeable employee who was willing to discuss the issue with him. He has continued to contact that person for information.  Justin used old fashioned, reporter stick-to-it determination and will-power to make the contact.   Frankly, I think Dayton is just jealous of Justin Hart; pure and simple.

But what I think is completely wrong of Dayton are all the implications he makes with no factual substantiation of any kind. He has no shred of evidence. What he does have is a wild imagination combined with a desire to write sensationalism. To me, it is despicable for him to imply that Justin Hart “seems” to have an exclusive contact based on the fact he is affiliated with the official campaign as a volunteer. I have followed Justin Hart’s contributions at MyManMitt all year and unlike Dayton, he has never published any false information and never would he write sensationalized material.    Justin Hart’s character and reputation are above reproach.

The irony of Soren Dayton’s blog posts is that he uses the word “sleazy” in his blog as he freely implies conspiracies and connections to Governor Romney.   What word should be used to describe Soren Dayton’s free and easy language to spread false and misleading statements?

Rather than leave comments here, send Soren Dayton an email (see top of this post) and let him know your thoughts.  Wouldn’t it be fascinating to know which candidate Mr. Dayton supports and then see how that candidate is doing today?

Soren Dayton (and Liz Mair) are some of the most flamboyant anti-Romney hacks out there. Dayton is nowhere close to being objective when he discusses Romney, he puts a negative spin on EVERYTHING, it’s actually quite funny. I lend his piss-poor site, “eyeon08″ almost zero credibility. If you hate Romney, I guess you might find it enjoyable.

Soren is a long time pro-McCain guy and has been in lock step with the McCain campaign’s anti-Romney messaging (going back over a year to when McCain was first faltering in Iowa). I’m not sure if he’s on the payroll, but Jason Bonham from MyManMitt would know more about it.
