This made me laugh…Robert Bluey on Romney’s Post Debate Spin

From Bluey Blog —–>Romney Press Shop Unmatched in Debate Spin

Mitt’s guys clogged up my in-box with so many urgent releases in the hours after last night’s debate that it’s seriously impacting my ability to order generic Viagra and e-mail my bank details to Nigerian dictators’ wives.

I was categorically wrong…and for that I’m sorry!

As a sponsor of the Save The Debate Coalition, I strongly pushed for a Republican CNN/YouTube Debate. I truly thought that it was a great idea to have Average American Citizens ask questions of the Presidential candidates through the new medium of YouTube. I also had too much faith in CNN. Having grown up desiring either a career in journalism or politics, and having friends in the MSM I just thought that CNN would do a better job at choosing the questions than they did. In the end Governor Romney’s reservations were absolutely right on the money. CNN turned the entire thing into a farce. I have lost almost all respect for their organization, and look upon them a lot more skeptical than I did coming into the debate.

To end this, I want to apologize to Governor Romney and his staff for pushing this so hard. Hindsight is always 20/20, but I really wish that I would have looked deeper at the ramifications of this from your perspective. I just got caught up in it, and for that I am sorry. As the slogan says on my “Women for Romney” site says, “I’m a woman who believes that Mitt Romney is the kind of man who can lead the next generation”, and I’m more than thrilled to support Governor Romney as the 44th President of the United States.

Most Apologetically,

Mike Huckabee: THE REAL DEAL - “Clinton-Like”

Filed under Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee

PRESS RELEASE:

For those of you who are working the HUCK BLOGS and the Iowa blogs, please help get this information out to all the Iowa Huckabee fans who are wearing blinders. And while you are there, kindly invite them to the Romney camp!

Check this quote from below:

‘He was pro-life and pro-gun, but otherwise a liberal,’ she says. ‘Just like Bill Clinton he will charm you, but don’t be surprised if he takes a completely different turn in office.’

… DISCUSS GOV. HUCKABEE’S

TAX-AND-SPEND RECORD

FACT: Arkansas Conservatives Have Widely Criticized Gov. Huckabee:

Betsy Hagan, Arkansas Director Of The Eagle Forum: “He Was Pro-Life And Pro-Gun, But Otherwise A Liberal” “Nor am I alone. Betsy Hagan, Arkansas director of the conservative Eagle Forum and a key backer of his early runs for office, was once ‘his No. 1 fan.’ She was bitterly disappointed with his record. ‘He was pro-life and pro-gun, but otherwise a liberal,’ she says. ‘Just like Bill Clinton he will charm you, but don’t be surprised if he takes a completely different turn in office.’” (John Fund, “Another Man From Hope,” The Wall Street Journal, 10/26/07)

Former Republican State Rep. Randy Minton Said That Gov. Huckabee’s Record Will Turn Away Economic Conservatives. “Also that year, the state grappled with an economic downturn and a resulting budget shortfall. ‘Republicans that believe in limited government and lower taxes and fees, they’ll look at his record, and they won’t be satisfied with it,’ said former Republican state Rep. Randy Minton of Ward.” (Daniel Nasaw, “Home Turf Not Rock Solid For Huckabee,” Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 10/4/07)

- Huckabee Has Been Called “A Treacherous Liberal On Taxes, Social Welfare Spending And Illegal Immigration.” “Mr. Minton voices the concerns of many conservatives that while Mr. Huckabee governed as a social conservative in opposing abortion and same-sex ‘marriage,’ he was a treacherous liberal on taxes, social welfare spending and illegal immigration.” (Ralph Z. Hallow, “Huckabee Stirs Up Third Party Fear,” The Washington Times, 10/29/07)

Phyllis Schlafly Said That Huckabee “Destroyed The Conservative Movement In Arkansas.” “Mrs. Schlafly, one of the most respected leaders in the social-conservative movement, has accused Mr. Huckabee of ‘destroying’ the conservative movement in Arkansas and leaving the GOP ‘in shambles.’ She says many of the evangelical Christians who ’sold’ social conservative voters on President Bush in 2000 are now ‘trying to sell us on Mike Huckabee.’” (Ralph Z. Hallow, “Huckabee Stirs Up Third Party Fear,” The Washington Times, 10/29/07)

FACT: Newspapers In Arkansas Have Lambasted Gov. Huckabee And His Liberal Fiscal Record:

In An Editorial, The [Arkansas] Leader Called Huckabee “One Of The Most Liberal Governor’s In Arkansas History.” “His record has been both Huckabee?s strength and his Achilles? heel, as we have had occasion to observe. He is one of the most liberal governors in Arkansas history, having accounted for more tax increases than any other and having enlarged state government more than any other. He has exorbitantly inflated his record as a tax-cutter on the stump and now that will catch up with him. But we continue to believe that if he will shoot straight with the Republican constituencies, his record and his moderate views on such things as immigration and government health assistance could make him the party?s best opponent to Sen. Hillary Clinton, the expected Democratic nominee. That is not the conventional wisdom, but it will be his best pitch.” (Editorial, “Huck Keeps Moving Up,” The [Arkansas] Leader, 10/31/07)

Huckabee’s Tax Increases Were Mockingly Called The “Tax Me More Fund.” “What a banana-splitting riot Gov. Mike Huckabee has conjured with his ‘Tax Me More Fund’ campaign. Those of us who don’t feel we are being adequately peeled by government now are free to send our tax-deductible contributions to the state.” (Mike Masterson, Op-Ed, “Bananas And Taxes,” Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 12/6/01)

- “I don’t know about you, but I could hardly wait to get my additional tax dollar in the mail this week. It’s becoming increasingly obvious to me, in light of Huckabee’s enlightened leadership, that we should acknowledge how we are not being taxed enough in Arkansas today. Why, just this week I found myself complaining to an underpaid Quickie Mart attendant that I didn’t feel the 33 cents or so a gallon I am paying for highway construction and maintenance is nearly enough. It certainly wasn’t enough to keep us from enjoying the two worst interstates in America, so I left an extra quarter on the counter.” (Mike Masterson, Op-Ed, “Bananas And Taxes,” Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 12/6/01)

Arkansas Democrat-Gazette: Huckabee Is “Economically Illiterate” And Needs A “Refresher Course In Basic Economics.” “The time to investigate the wisdom of this tax was before the Guv signed it into law. A refresher course in basic economics might have helped, too. Only the economically illiterate believe that businesses can be taxed without their passing the costs on to those who buy their goods and services–in this case, nursing home patients. To pretend otherwise is to ignore not just economics but human nature.” (Editorial, “In Shock,” Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 6/20/01)

Huckabee Was Widely Criticized For His Record Budgets. “Beware of rosy budgets submitted by governors addicted to easy money. We’re not just talking tacos and pantyhose anymore. We’re talking about the biggest state budget ever proposed. We’re talking billions, three of them and change. And that’s just general revenue; it doesn’t count those other hundreds of millions Gov. Mike Huckabee apparently wants to raise by going in debt for highways based on federal money to come.” (John Brummett, Op-Ed, “Huckabee’s Easy-Money Budget,” Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 11/17/98)

- “For perspective: Huckabee’s budget is more like one submitted by Bill Clinton than Jim Guy Tucker. Clinton sometimes overbudgeted, which meant that when tax collections lagged he was required by the Revenue Stabilization Act to order across-the-board reductions in spending levels to keep the budget balanced. Tucker, who governed during periods of growth, was notorious for stingy budgeting that produced end-of-year windfalls. ” (John Brummett, Op-Ed, “Huckabee’s Easy-Money Budget,” Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 11/17/98)

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Said Huckabee’s Grocery Tax Allowed The State “To Grind The Faces Of The Poor.” “Yes, There have been failures, too. Mike Huckabee has shown a growing weakness for the easy, politically savvy solution rather than real reform. Instead of eliminating the tax on groceries, he fiddled and compromised and finally caved in to the Legislature. And so the state continues to grind the faces of the poor, and the working poor, and just those on a tight budget, every time they buy their bread and milk.” (Editorial, “For Mike Huckabee,” Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 10/29/98)

Big Immigration Group Hammers Huckabee

Click here to read the entire article online:
.
.
IMMIGRATION GROUP: HUCKABEE A ‘DISASTER’ — The Washington Times — by Stephen Dinan

Groups that support a crackdown on illegal aliens haven’t settled on their champion in the race for the White House, but there’s little doubt which Republican scares them most — former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

“He was an absolute disaster on immigration as governor,” said Roy Beck, president of NumbersUSA, a group that played a major role in rallying the phone calls that helped defeat this year’s Senate immigration bill. “Every time there was any enforcement in his state, he took the side of the illegal aliens.”

“Huckabee is the guy who scares the heck out of me,” said Peter Gadiel, president of 9-11 Families for a Secure America, a group instrumental in fighting for the REAL ID Act that sets federal standards for driver’s licenses.

Some leaders said Mr. Huckabee reminds them of President Bush, who pushed for legalization of illegal aliens and a new supply of foreign guest workers, despite his base calling for better border security and enforcement.

“I would say that Huckabee comes from the same perspective on the issue that George W. Bush came from — that out of a strong sense of compassion, he tries to identify with someone who comes to the United States, even if they came illegally,” said Steven A. Camarota, research director for the Center for Immigration Studies.

Mr. Huckabee yesterday defended his record, but he said if voters are looking for the toughest guy, he’s not their man.

James J. Boulet Jr., executive director of English First, which wants to make English the official language of the government, said Mr. Romney had the best official record on that issue, opposing bilingual education during his term as Massachusetts governor.

Both Mr. Romney and Mr. Thompson have said they wouldn’t create a new pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens, and Mr. Romney also has hinted he wants illegal aliens to go home through attrition.

As for Rudolph W. Giuliani, several leaders said his record as New York mayor was worrisome — he ran a sanctuary city, which means the identity of illegal aliens was kept from authorities in some cases — but they are impressed with his tough border-security position.

Readers of this blog: Just remember that political polls vary by polling entity and that polls are lagging indicators. In my opinion, the polls you are seeing today showing Huckabee as a close second to Governor Romney or pressing him for the number one slot, are based on the soft news Huckabee was getting two to three weeks ago. News like what you just read above will be reflected in polls a week, two weeks, three weeks from now. And remember that the deadline is coming up very soon in Iowa for absentee ballots to be turned in.

Huck-a-”buyin” Signatures in Virginia…while Romney’s done filed.

This comes from the —–> always esteemed Mitt Report…

Mike Huckabee has always been the most vocal about Romney ‘buying’ his support. At Ames, he accused Romney of buying his support, at CPAC, the same thing. Now apparently Huckabee has taken up the practice of buying support himself and he is now trying to hide it.

On Monday the website Too Conservitive had a post by a Vincent Harris, who is officially “coordinating Governor Huckabee’s petition drive in NOVA,” promising to pay those who would work for Huckabee to obtain signatures 50 cents per signature. Just hours later however as the word spread, the language promising to pay money for the signatures was deleted. Luckily, Mitt Report saved a copy of the orginial text. The language earlier in the day looked like this:

“I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.
I am in the state for a couple weeks coordinating Governor Huckabee’s petition drive in NOVA. If anyone wants to help (50 cents a signature!) please shoot me an e-mail to vincent.harris@explorehuckabee.com”

The language now looks like this:

“I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.

I am in the state for a couple weeks coordinating Governor Huckabee’s petition drive in NOVA. If anyone wants to help please shoot me an e-mail to vincent dot harris @explorehuckabee.com”

It appears that Huckabee is buying his signatures and now is trying to cover it up.

Click —–>on over here, as Paul Harvey says for “The Rest of the Story”.

Now onto our guy…

Romney’s already completed the filing process in Virginia per —–>This Romney for President Press Release

Rudy Giuliani Would Be Our Bill Clinton

John Hawkins TOWNHALL.COM

Excellent article that examines the misguided enthusiasm for RG. As the campaign has progressed, I have been mystified as to why Rudy has thus far led the national polls. To my mind, the only reason he has been leading is that the voters have not been paying attention until recently and as they have turned their attention to the upcoming election and started to examine RG’s record, they have begun the process of backing off in their support.

It was very interesting to hear Dr. Frank Lutz say that what the voters in his latest focus group were looking for could be summed up in two words: Ronald Reagan.

For anyone not familiar with Dr. Lutz, he is the pollster who has been analyzing the debates for Fox News. He uses the “dial method” to measure a focus group’s reaction to a candidate’s responses. That is why I thought Mr. Hawkins article was so spot on in his commentary on Giuliani’s standing in the polls.

Since what conservative/moderate voters want is the 2008 version of Ronald Reagan, they should contrast and compare the records of Mitt Romney vs. Rudy Giuliani.

I am confident (as someone who greatly admired President Reagan) that they will conclude that Mitt Romney is the candidate who best exemplifies the values and policies of Ronald Reagan.

Here are a few quotes from this very worthwhile article.

“Perhaps the biggest oddity of the Republican primary season so far has been that GOP voters keep saying that they want another Reagan, the candidates keep comparing themselves to Reagan at every opportunity, and yet the man who is leading in the national polls, Rudy Giuliani, is about as far apart from Reagan as it’s possible to get ideologically while still remaining in the Republican Party. Rudy Giuliani is no Reagan. What he is, and what he would be if he gets the nomination, is our Bill Clinton.

The truth is that Rudy Giuliani is not a conservative. He’s a Rockefeller Republican, a RINO, a tougher, more charismatic version of Arlen Specter — which is why it’s mind boggling that so many conservatives who are furious at George Bush and senators like Lindsey Graham, John Warner, and Trent Lott for not being conservative enough are happily backing Giuliani.

Long story short, conservatives who are backing Rudy should go into it “eyes wide open” and understand exactly what they’re getting. They’re getting a Republican Bill Clinton: an ethically compromised candidate that Republicans will constantly have to apologize for and who is destined to disappoint conservatives either by losing in 2008 or by winning and then opposing us on many of the issues we care about most once he gets into office.”
