It’s not just about judges…

October 14th, 2007 Posted in 2008 Election, Abortion, Rudy Giuliani

The Pro-Lifers who are supporting or considering supporting Rudy say that the entire issue is about judges. Ain’t so. Here is an example of legislation in Georgia that has saved thousands of lives, and it had nothing to do with judges or the Supreme Court.

It’s not just about judges. Who we nominate for President matters. Vote Mitt.

The Measurable, Quantifiable Impact of Voting Pro-Life

It took a long time for pro-life Republicans to wrest control of the Georgia legislature from pro-choice Southern Democrats. Once they had done so, they set about pushing legislation ratifying promises made to the pro-life community.

In May of 2005, Georgia’s “Woman’s Right to Know Act” went into effect. As Senate President Pro Tempore Eric Johnson explains, “The law required that doctors explain to women the medical risks of abortion and the status of life in their womb. They then had to wait 24 hours before proceeding with this critical decision.”

Two years have now passed since the Act went into effect. Again, from Senator Johnson

According to the Senate Majority Leader, Tommie Williams, we have already seen significant results in passing this critical pro-life legislation. Since it went into effect in May of 2005, the DHR reports that between 32,500 and 40,500 women have talked to their doctors about an abortion. After that conversation and the information provided to them by this law, approximately 10,000 chose to carry their babies to term. In addition, 2,300 minors considered terminating their pregnancy and only 500 did so. So we saved about 11,800 babies so far. Pretty neat, huh?

This past year, the Georgia General Assembly passed a sonogram bill that gives women the chance to see the children in their wombs before having an abortion. Hopefully, this will save more lives.

These measures would not have passed without pro-life legislators being elected. The lives saved through these measures are quantifiable, measurable metrics by which to gauge the necessity of electing men and woman who, as a central tenet of their disposition, are pro-life.

Even if it were all about judges, Rudy’s too comfortable with stare decisis on plainly bad decisions.
I hold little hope for real change from a nomination from him.

  2. David Kim Says:

That’s right. Why would a President Giuliani give the values coalition the time of day? He would be well within his rights to tell values voters to get lost afterall, he’s been very clear about being pro-abortion and pro-gay marriage. He could say that he won without our help, and that we didn’t support him, so take a hike. In fact, that’s what I would expect from a President Giuliani. If pro-values coalitions don’t get with the program, they will be spending a long time in the wilderness and setting back our issues by at least a generation.

  3. John Cronin Says:

I agree completely. The solution is in either changing the minds and hearts of those in positions of power in the legislative, executive AND judicial branches of government, or, if that fails, changing the people in those branches of government.

This is where I am so sick of the social conservatives chatting “Rudy, Rudy, Rudy” — how they have been saying that it is enough that he would appoint the constructionalist judges. I then pointed out to them if they are aware of how Speaker-Joker Peleios had tried to get the bill to remove the Partial Ban Law through the committee. I asked them if this bill gets to the desk with Rudy behind it, can they say which way he will sign it? They cannot. Really, at any day, with the Democratic Representatives being in control of their own house, there are tens of bills that expand the access to abortion. And besides, his remark on Roe being a good law, and it could go either way under the constructionalist judges really speaks volumn on how he “construct” (define) a constructionalist judge!

  5. Ryan S. Says:

The dilemma of a Rudy presidency will be as a refiners fire for the pro-life movement, scorching away the lip-service flakes and leaving in their place only those who are truly willing to stand in the defense of life.

Judges 7:5 “and the Lord said unto Gideon, Every one that lappeth of the water with his tongue, as a dog lappeth, him shalt thou set by himself; likewise every one that boweth down upon his knees to drink.”

6 “And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, were three hundred men: but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water.”

7 “And the Lord said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you . . . and let all the other people go every man unto his place.”

9,700 men departed. For those who would claim to be pro-life and support Rudy, that is fine, I would tell you to go unto your place. We have work to do, and we will be the stronger for it.

We HAVE To Have Rudy . . . Because?

Jack Kennedy must be spinning in his grave. Now, I have to ask for some forbearance from my Catholic friends. This is not directed at Catholicism.

We hear the whispers, the innuendoes, the insinuations, and the outright inference that Giuliani belongs to the correct religion, McCain is neutral, Romney is the devil incarnate, and the *SEI’s (Southern Evangelical Idiots) are inconsequential. We hear it at Fox News (Catholic - New York). We hear it from the Giuliani clan (Catholic - New York). We hear it from ultra-liberal Chris Matthews (Catholic - New York). And we have heard it more than once from Robert Novak (Catholic - New York).

Giuliani? Oh yeah, he made pretty good speeches AFTER 9-11. He did nothing before 9-11 to fix the communications infra-structure for the NYPD, the FDNY and the Port Authority. Is that not what we elect officials to do? We elect them not to necessarily read a crystal ball and prevent such as 9-11, but to be PREPARED in such an event. Let’s just step back and ask a few questions.

Among Romney, Giuliani and McCain, who has had the fewest wives?
Among Romney, Giuliani and McCain, who is the most family oriented?
Among Romney, Giuliani and McCain, who is pro-life?
Among Romney, Giuliani and McCain, who backs a constitutional marriage amendment?
Among Romney, Giuliani and McCain, who is focusing more not on past events but the future?
Among Romney, Giuliani and McCain, who actually worked on health care in their respective states?

I’m not really big on conspiracy theories, but . . .

*SEI’’s - code word in the North, the Left Coast, and the MSM for “Southern Evangelical Idiots”
