Huckabee is not the candidate Fred Thompson is and Thompson being the "law and order" candidate (ironically in this age of terrorism, we need a law and order president) can legitimately choose where he deploys resources as oppose to Huckabee who is wedded to Iowa. Thompson wants a one on one match up with either Giuliani or Romney. He wins in either scenario, if he proves himself viable. He could eliminate Romney if he wins Iowa or he can eliminate Giuliani if he wins Florida. The decision for Thompson is who is he most likely able to eliminate. Romney's large lead in Iowa, may cause Thompson to focus on eliminating Giuliani. However Michigan moving up its primary changes the dynamics, because it introduces a big state earlier in the process than Florida and impacts Giuliani's big state strategy. Therefore if Thompson wants to eliminate Giuliani, he has to win Michigan. Unfortunately for Thompson, Romney is strong in Michigan and a win for Romney there, threatens Fred Thompson in Florida and even South Carolina. The good news for Thompson is that Wyoming goes early as well. So look for Thompson and Giuliani to deploy massively in one of the early states (Giuliani in NH and Thompson in IA), though I am still keen to Thompson playing in Iowa, simply for the fact that Giuliani and McCain cannot find traction there and can easily have a top two finish. As far as I am concerned with Thompson's entry and Michigan's move, its curtains for McCain and Huckabee.

Steven, no, Fred cannot contest with Mitt, until he has contested with Huckabee, who seems to be drawing most of his support in Iowa. He needs to gain some of his support back, enough to move himself upward into the reach of Mitt, then he can contest with Mitt.

Great poll numbers, but the question is whether these numbers are high enough to deter Fred Thompson from devoting resources in Iowa. If Thompson believes he can compete in Iowa and then goes on to win Iowa, its curtains for Romney. However with Romney's great win in the Ames Straw Poll, which is now validated by all these polls in the aftermath, despite the MSM deadpan reaction to that win, Romney makes that decision on the part of Thompson one that has to be weighed very, very carefully.

The only problem with these numbers if that if Romney holds on to such a large lead, a win in Iowa would be a non-story. The press will be too busy oodling over HRC/Obama to report on the Mitt's expected win.

23% lead in any poll is great. We just need Mitt to keep the foot on the gas, and go try to pick up strong leads in NH, Michigan, SC, and Nevada.

ROMNEY TOO STUPID TO USE GOOGLE MAPS!

Newberry County Sheriff's Maj. Todd Johnson said that deputy's escort was unplanned. Romney's motorcade became lost and requested help finding the campaign stop, he said. "They didn't know exactly where they were going," Johnson said.
