Of the Highest Values - Experience

Another very good post by Charles Mitchell over at EVANGELICALS FOR MITT. Those who keep thinking the Evangelical Christians won’t support Mitt are simply wrong. Check it out here.

War on Terror - TODAY

Is there a war on terror? Not according to John Edwards. Two terrorist events happened just this week. Maybe these were somehow related to a simple fuel leak? Maybe the Mercedez Benz that was filled with nails and fuel was owned by a handyman with customers located far and wide?

Just today we had a significant terror event:

UK Raises Terror Level Alert to “Critical” (highest possible) due to terror event at Scotland’s Glasgow International, Saturday, June 30th -

Sen. McCain Killed His Own Bill

This is just funny.

In a truly roundabout way, the immigration deal was sunk by John McCain.

The Arizona senator, one of the key dealmakers and supporters of the measure, voted for cloture — cutting off debate to proceed to a vote — of course. But the controversial bill was so delicate that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had to bring the bill up with a controversial “clay pigeon” amendment show. The obscure procedure was leadership’s last best hope to keep the bill from being changed in any way that would make supporters jump ship.

On Wednesday, the Senate considered several amendments under the clay-pigeon setup, beginning with the ones considered relatively easy to defeat. But they included an amendment by Max Baucus (D., Mont.) that would prohibit “Real ID,” contending that digital ID cards represent an unreasonable government intrusion into Americans’ private lives. But when the 15 minutes of voting had passed, the Baucus amendment still had enough votes to avoid being tabled, or killed.

Holding the vote open for 40 minutes, Reid and deal supporters put extraordinary effort into arm-twisting to table Baucus’s amendment, which threatened the delicate balance they thought they had a handle on. Reid and bill backers found themselves one vote short of the 50 needed to dismiss Baucus’s amendment. There were two senators missing: Sen. Tim Johnson of South Dakota, still recovering from brain surgery, and McCain, out of town at a fundraising event.

Had McCain been there, he would have been the 50th vote, the amendment would been killed, and the clay-pigeon process could have continued. With that, perhaps, the bill might have been able to scrape together the 60 votes needed for cloture. Without the 50th vote, Reid released the senators, and Baucus’s amendment survived, 52-45.

As it was, no further amendments could be considered before cloture, as unanimous consent was required to move to another one. Opponents were quick to object.

“Reid’s staff knew at that point, they were toast,” said a GOP Senate aide. “I don’t think Reid knew it. He asked what they could do at that point [on the floor], and somebody on our side yelled, ‘You can’t do anything! See you at cloture!’”

So we can thank Sen. McCain’s doomed run for the presidency and the June 30 quarterly fundraising deadline for engineering the defeat of Amensty. Excuse me while I let loose with a manical laugh.

Tales from the Supreme Court

Yesterday was a particularly great day for the conservative movement. Not only did we manage to get a majority of the Senate to vote down Sen. McCain’s “Grand Bargain”, the Supreme Court also curtailed race-based school districting.

But there’s bad news. Despite all logic, Justice Kennedy again thwarted the Constitution and declared that the 14th Amendment’s Equal Protections Clause still might have a few loopholes depending on his mood.

We are so close to achieving our goal of a judiciary that again respects the law above their own political judgements. This is why we need a man like Gov. Romney picking our next Supreme Court justice. Only one more and liberal court rulings will begin melting away.

UltiMitt.org - Official Launch Date Set

PRESS RELEASE BELOW

By this post, I encourage all those who have yet to register with UltiMitt to do so now. This site is one of the best new websites I have seen in a long time and those who are members of it will have tremendous influence in the presidential elections down the stretch in my opinion. See the official press release below this photograph.

Official Press Release:

Web 2.0 Becomes Political Influence 2.0 with Launch of UltiMitt.org.

LOS ANGELES, June 27, 2007. On July 2, 2007, the evolution of web-based political activism will take a giant leap forward with the official launch of UltiMitt.org. UltiMitt seeks to magnify the influence of the average citizen by pooling resources into one central hub– a well-designed website that gathers numerous tools for effective activism in one place. “UltiMitt brings unorganized, yet enthusiastic supporters together and puts their individual talents to use,” says Phil Kenny, UltiMitt’s Chief Operating Officer and one of its founders. “A graphics designer alone may not be able to make as much impact as he would if he were connected with a web designer, marketing specialist, talented writers and policy researchers.”

UltMitt moves beyond the model of isolated individuals blogging in their basements. According to Anne Marie Curling, UltiMitt’s Marketing Director, the idea was hatched by “a group of successful attorneys and professionals that have attracted similarly driven people to their project. The idea is not just to send weak echoes across the Internet, but to have a wide broadcast presence that brings about action for the cause.”

Even before the group’s official launch, there is evidence that the approach is working. In the three weeks leading up to the July 2 launch date, the site has had thousands of visitors and signed up hundreds of users, each joining different teams and coalitions, and volunteering for specialized duties based on their ability and interest. Numerous teams like “Values Voters for Mitt” and “Women for Romney” have spontaneously formed, and users can sign up to receive several newsletters, focusing on different topics in the campaign. The result is not just a website, and not just a social network, but a broad aggregation of focused political activity accelerating into the race with the Internet as its engine.

The UltiMitt team expects to continue to grow and build on its strength—the individual talents each new member brings to the organization. According to Mr. Kenny, new members “are immediately contacted and given direction on how they can help. In the months to come, we see UltiMitt as an organization of thousands of leaders all acting with a singular purpose and effort.”

For additional information regarding UltiMitt, contact Ryan Bell at ryan@ultimitt.org, or visit the site at www.ultimitt.org.

About UltiMitt – UltiMitt is both a website and a political organization that supports the candidacy of Mitt Romney for president. It provides numerous resources to Romney supporters intended to focus their energy and increase their influence on the 2008 presidential election.

Please tell your friends about UltiMitt.

Mitt, Ann, and Guests in Boston

The “America’s Calling” event this week was truly a once-in-a-lifetime event and a privilege to attend. It is likely that Governor Romney will have similar fund raisers in the future. If so and if you are able to break away and attend one, you should. The energy in the air and the constant smiles were contagious. Without exception, everybody there was working very hard. Many people I had seen in the press and knew to be “VIPs” in Camp Romney were working very hard, including Mitt’s senior team leads, his sons and daughters-in-law, Senator Bennett, Meg Whitman, and other dignitaries. I have been to dozens of major events that have been well planned and organized, but I have to say that this one stands out as one of the most impressive I have ever experienced. Every detail seemed to be planned well ahead of time and everything worked flawlessly. It all appeared to be a glimpse of greater things to come.

This was only the second event I have attended at which Mitt and Ann Romney were present. In the five times I have heard them speak publicly, the one thing that always stands out above all (to me) is their sincere gratitude for those who are making sacrifices financially and with their time. Often Mitt and Ann will spend most of their time expressing gratitude with an understanding of how hard it can be at times. They definitely do not take for granted the many hundreds, if not thousands of people who are working so hard to get the right person in the office of President. After Mitt spoke briefly at Fenway Park, my son Mitchell mentioned how impressed he was with his overall humble nature.

Though there was not much time available to shoot, I did take some time at the beginning to capture some moments. Here are four images from this historic event:

Help Romney Remain Top Fundraiser and Become our Next President

Q2 fundraising will come to a close in just a few short days (June 30th).

In light of this, I wanted to revive my previous post about how the MSM spun Romney’s Q1 fundraising success as being “Deep But Narrow.” I also pointed out in a follow-up piece that such characterization of Romney was incorrect and that most other candidates relied on big donors more than Romney did.

Both Giuliani and McCain have more June fundraisers than Romney (50, 30, and 25 respectively). Rudy might be tough to beat in Q2 fundraising. Romney needs more money to run his campaign than nationally recognized Rudy, McCain, and Actor Fred Thompson. It’s looking like Q2 will be a fundraising horserace. The Boston Globe reports:

Mitt Romney, whose surprising $21 million first-quarter fund-raising haul topped Republican rivals in the 2008 White House race, said on Monday he expected a drop in fund-raising cash in the current quarter.
. . .
He said he expected former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani to have raised the most campaign funds in the second quarter among Republican presidential candidates. He expected money raised by Arizona Sen. John McCain “to be up significantly,” he said

This story also notes that Romney is going to personally help fund his campaign in Q2). The stakes are high folks! This is where we come in.

Please take it upon yourselves to donate to Romney’s campaign!! If you haven’t donated yet and money is tight just give $5 or $10. Help increase the total number of donors by making sure your spouse donates as well and any family members who will be 18 by election day 2008. Get your friends, classmates, & co-workers to donate too. Feel free to use my fundraiser ID (225003) when you donate, or use Ann Marie’s, Nate’s, or Vic’s (found at this link). If you donated in Q1, make sure you donate more in Q2! My wife and I have more than doubled our Q1 donations.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, get the courage to send an email or place a call to all of your family and friends about why you have donated to Romney’s campaign and invite them to do the same on or before June 30th!

America needs Mitt in 2008 . . . but right now Mitt needs us!!!
