Mitt Romney vs Hillary Clinton

WASHINGTON — Democrats have an overwhelming favorable view of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, but she would be soundly beaten if she ran for president against Sen. John McCain, a new Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll has found.
Underscoring the New York lawmaker’s potential vulnerability, the poll also found that Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, a Republican little known to most voters, would give Clinton a run for her money.
And that’s coming from the liberal media via the Los Angeles Times.
Also of interest:
Romney’s religion — Mormonism — and McCain’s age could be more problematic. Fourteen percent of registered voters said they could not vote for a Mormon. The same number said they could not vote for someone who is 72 years old, which will be McCain’s age on election day in 2008.

Interesting. One problem I starting to worry about is that Rudy support does not drop even when his views are know on social issues. That makes him the strong favorite in NY, NJ, RI, Conn, and Maybe Penn if he runs to have an almost NE firewall in the primany.

Also:
“The poll of 1,489 adults, including 1,342 registered voters, was supervised by Times polling Director Susan Pinkus. It was conducted Friday through Monday and had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points. The sample included 473 registered Republicans, who were asked about potential GOP presidential candidates, and 585 registered Democrats, who were asked about their party’s hopefuls. The margin of error was plus or minus 5 percentage points for Republicans and 4 points for Democrats.”
Interesting . . . only 31% of those polled were registered Republicans (compared to nearly 40% being registered Democrats). Not bad results for those skewed number.

Considering there is such a difference in party affliation in the poll, it is clear that Romney has a good chance against Clinton.
I am also glad to see the anti-Mormon thing is only 14% in this specific poll. Ironically, McCain’s age might do him in before Romney’s faith.

I live in NY and support Mitt 100%!! They did a poll last month, Clinton smoked both Guliani and McCain here. (Mitt wasn’t included in the vote). Clinton insiders say the only candidate they are not sure they can beat is, guess who — yup, Mitt. I’m not too concerned about the Mormon thing, between 60% and 70% of those who say they couldn’t/wouldn’t vote for a Mormon (aside from being ignorant bigots) change their minds on that issue when they are presented with actual FACTS about Mormons. Just get Mitt in front of the voters and watch what happens. There’s no question that some combination of Mitt, McCain and Guliani as Pres/VP will keep the White House away from the Clintons. Just keep pounding the pavement and getting the word out about Mitt, and we’ll be fine come election time.
