Mitt Romney/Jeb Bush ln 2008?

October 30th, 2006 Posted in 2008, Analysis, Commentary, and Editorials

The Boston Herald is running an article on a Romney/Bush ticket for 2008. Feel free to leave your comments on a Romney/Bush ticket. I think that a Romney/Bush ticket would be a good idea. What do you think?

  1. Eichendorff Says:

I think the Romney should pick a different running mate (I’m not sure whom) and then, assuming he’s elected president, appoint Jeb Bush to head FEMA. He did very well as governor when all those hurricanes hit Florida.

  2. shiggz Says:

I think theres a fair sized group up of the country has Bush-Clinton fatigue.

Ive often heard Jeb is the better manager of the 2 maybe we should have had him first

  3. Nate G. Says:

Though I’d like to say that a Romney/Bush ticket sounds appealing, the readers of the article should realize that the article is purely speculation and I believe the Boston Herald is playing on our ponderous minds. I don’t believe for an instant that in their discussions they are already forming an alliance this early in the game. It would be foolish for both parties to do so.
Someone posted a comment under the name mar K at redstate.com saying something I readily agree with: “The 2008 Presidential election is still more than two years away. The primaries are still more than twelve months away. The VP slot is one of the biggest cards a Presidential candidate holds. Only a fool would play it so soon. And only a bigger fool would think it a serious offer. Romney is no fool. Neither is Jeb Bush. Therefore it is safe to conclude that the quoted anonymous GOP “insiders” are just shooting off their mouths, or they aren’t as “inside” as they like to think.”

Jeb Bush seems to be alligning with Romney. It’s not so far as an official endorsement, but if it does become that it would be huge for Romney.

Again, I would highly approve of Romney/Bush package, but my absolute top pick for the VP slot would be Condaleeza Rice. I think those two could go far. Best combo ever!

  4. JOEL CANTU Says:

If the idea is to win the presidency, I can certify that the worse election for the GOV Romney as his companion of formulates is Jeb Bush - TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH an ELECTORAL DELINQUENT AND PART OF an OMINOUS FAMILY WHO NOT ONLY DAMAGE TO the USA, TO the ENTIRE WORLD. DEFINITIVELY NO!

  5. Nate G. Says:

In spite of Joel’s remarks I heartily endorse the Bush’s. I believe George W. to be a great president, but his lack of communication skills hurts him. The only problem that I have with Jeb for VP is that the country may be burned-out on the Bushes and that could potentially hurt Romney’s chances. Though I don’t believe it should be so. But what can you do? The public can be very fickle.

  6. polistra Says:

NO!!!! No more Bushes, no more Clintons!

  7. Ryan Says:

I think the Bush fatigue exists and the very fact we are debating whether it exists shows that some must feel this way.

Romney is positioning himself as an outsider and picking a Bush for anything would hurt this idea. He should pick someone literally out of nowhere like another Governor or high constitutional officer at the state level.

  8. Joseph Walch Says:

Mitt needs a fresh face for a running mate. I think the Bushs are good people, and make great executives, but the media have been somewhat successful in tearing down George Bush. I also don’t think Mitt would like to be perceived as perpetuating a privilaged dynasty (and the media will sure paint Jeb as yet another in a line of power-hungry Bushs). I think it would also be more effective in terms of foreign policy to have a non-Bush to bring in a new era in American politics.

  9. Andrew Jeb Bolton Says:

I agree with those who speak of Bush fatigue. I actually like Jeb Bush–heck “Jeb” is my own middle name. But there is simply no way that voters will want another Bush on the ticket no matter how ideal he may appear (and yes, I do love Bush’s politics). As for Joel, get a life and stop reading propaganda (I’m getting tired of this “Bush is the source of all evil in the world”)

  10. Adam Says:

Right On!! Let’s get this thing going! This IS a WINNING combination!!!

  11. Nate G. Says:

Anyone wanna second a Romney/Rice ticket?

  12. Steven Says:

Nope. If Romney even makes it out of the GOP field, he will most likely have to have McCain on to prevent him from running as an independent and handing Hillary the White House.

  13. shiggz Says:

remember from history class back in the day when the 2nd place finisher would be VP even though he was from the other party.

personally id like to see a Romney/Steele or Obama ticket.

    I’m from Illinois.
I have baby-boomer fatigue in politics.

Both Steele and Obama have proven they are ready to move past the 60’s. I know the media would paint it as the token black but anyone who’s met Steele cant call him a token black. Id really really like to see the Christian vote consolidated into one party instead of this divide and conquer thing thats been happening thanks to republicans of the past.

  14. Jim F. Says:

I like Mitt with Minnesota’s Coleman or Pawlenty. Combine that with Mitt’s standing in Michigan and you could turn the swing states in the Midwest to republican red.

  15. Phil S. Says:

While I like Jeb Bush (he should have run instead of George), I think the country is tired of Bushes (and Clintons for that matter). If Romney gets the nod, he should find a fresh face for his running mate

  16. Mary McCurry Says:

I spotted Jeb Bush years ago before I even heard of Mitt and thought he would do well as President. BUT, as Mitt himself said a few months back when asked about a good VP ‘if his name weren’t Bush….” I don’t think having on the ticket would provide sufficient balance to take on the Democrats. HOWEVER, a Romney/Rice ticket would be near perfect and Mitt can pull Jeb Bush into his cabinet. Sounds great to me!! Mitt Romney+Condoleeza Rice ‘08. That will be a brilliant combo bring class and balance all the way around.

  17. Vic Lundquist Says:

Mary: I like the Rice call. However, I think she brings too much baggage that could be attacked easily. She has already been attacked effectively by the MSM and Dems.
