Romney on Fox & Friends…

October 31st, 2006 | No Comments | Posted in Media Appearances

The Governor will appear on Fox News’ “Fox and Friends” tomorrow (Wednesday) at 8:10am EST to comment on Senator John Kerry’s regrettable remarks to students in California yesterday that if they don’t do well in school, “they could get stuck in Iraq”.

That Veep thing, again

This one comes from the Austin American-Statesman.

Perry has been mentioned as a potential Veep candidate (mostly by supporters and a few staffers), but no public interest has so far surfaced. The latest rumor: He might pair up with Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

This is the 2nd time (that i’m aware of) that they have ran an article about a Mitt Romney/Rick Perry ticket.

Let’s list a few of the people that could be Mitt Romney’s VP:
1)Mitt Romney/Jeb Bush
2)Mitt Romney/Rudolph Giuliani
3)Mitt Romney/Matt Blunt
4)Mitt Romney/Condoleeza Rice
5)Mitt Romney/John McCain
6)Mitt Romney/Bill Frist
7)Mitt Romney/George Allen
And the list goes on…

Who do you want (and why) to be Mitt Romney’s VP?

Mitt Romney “John Kerry Should Apologize”

October 31st, 2006 | 6 Comments | Posted in Analysis, Commentary, and Editorials

Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, a Republican who is considering a presidential run, said Kerry should apologize, particularly to the many soldiers from his own state serving in Iraq. Romney also said members of the Massachusetts National Guard are “more diverse, educated and prepared to do their job than at anytime in our countrys history.”

“No matter where you went to school, or how many degrees you have, most people understand the strength of our nation comes from every corner of America,” he said.

I have met members of the military that are more intelligent than John Kerry. His (John Kerry’s) comment was out of line.

Addendum:

This comes from Hugh Hewitt

Governor Romney’s statement on Kerry’s slander:

“Senator Kerry owes an apology to the thousands of men and women serving in Iraq, particularly the many patriotic soldiers from Massachusetts who come from all backgrounds to defend our freedoms. As Governor, I represent thousands of Massachusetts National Guardsmen. They are more diverse, educated and prepared to do their job than at anytime in our country’s history. No matter where you went to school, or how many degrees you have, most people understand the strength of our nation comes from every corner of America.”

Mass. governor could make presidential bid

There are many potential candidates looking to 2008, Romney said, stating with confidence that he expects Hillary Clinton to emerge as the leading Democrat.

“I may be one of those,” he added. “Time will tell.”

I would be suprised if Mitt Romney is not a candidate in 2008.

Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney Meets with Kim Wolfe in Charleston

October 31st, 2006 | 1 Comment | Posted in 2008 Election, Campaign Appearances, West Virginia

From the Huntington News…

From U.S. Rep. Candidate Kim Wolfe Campaign Headquarters

Charleston, WV (HNN) – Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, a leading Republican on the national scene and possible 2008 Presidential candidate, met privately with West Virginia 3rd District Congressional Candidate Kim Wolfe and his wife, Deborah, at The Charleston Marriott Monday morning, Oct. 30, 2006 following a health care symposium.

Romney was stumping for Wolfe because, as he said, “Sheriff Wolfe is an outstanding public servant with a reputation of integrity, a strong background and position on Homeland Security, Strengthening our Borders, and other fundamental issues of concern to Americans, he is a man of integrity with a great family, he is a working man, and can best represent the hard working people of southern West Virginia.”

Romney went on to mention Wolfe’s involvement as a member of the United States

Anti-Terrorist Advisory Council and the Advisory Committee to The National Task Force on Community Preparedness and Response.

As Governor Romney and Sheriff Wolfe shared a telephone press conference, Romney kept bringing the conversation back around to Sheriff Wolfe’s congressional campaign, reinforcing Wolfe’s reputation for integrity and leadership, and the need for America to have true public servants who sacrifice to represent the people they serve, not special interests, political parties or their own selfish interests.

Wolfe definitely fits that description, as he purposely did not receive any financial support from any political party, PACs (political action committees), unions or other special interests, which leaves him, as Wolfe states, “free to just do what is right for southern West Virginians. When I do get elected, I will be obligated only to the voters, which is how it should be.”

Wolfe went on to say: “The framers of this great Nation did not intend for the Congress to be made up of professional politicians, but to be exactly as it was named: A House of Representatives: representatives of the people:

teachers, farmers, laborers, businessmen, and so on. My opponent is a multi-millionaire who has never had a “real job,” never had to struggle to pay the bills, educate his children, access good health care. I’m just like the people I seek to represent: I work hard every day, struggle to make ends meet, and have had an opportunity to work and gradually pursue education and expertise in areas that now allow me to be well-prepared to represent all of us in Washington, and especially, to continue to protect and serve. There is no more important issue facing America today than Homeland Security, and Mr. Rahall’s record is especially frightening in that area. He’s consistently voted against Homeland Security, against our military, against strengthening our borders and immigration reform, and against Israel. He is an endangerment to our fundamental safety and security.”

Governor Romney followed up his meeting with Wolfe with an appearance on Hoppy Kercheval’s West Virginia Talk Net radio show, during which he said: “I think you will see Sheriff Wolfe get elected because he’s focused on national safety, personal safety, homeland security and the fundamental issues Americans and southern West Virginians are concerned about. Regarding the war in Iraq, Romney said, I don’t think the American people want to see us ‘cut and run,’ and see the terrorists show up on our shores, they don’t want them on our doorstep.”

“The key decision is what the people of West Virginia want to do: If they think that homeland security is a high priority, they’re going to send Sheriff Wolfe to Washington.”

Asking about his consideration of a presidential bid and the public scrutiny and negativity that sometimes goes with it, radio host Kercheval asked, “Do you really want to go through that?”

Romney responded: Before entering into such a commitment, of course you have to consider the extraordinary cost on an individual and their family. But hopefully, those of us who are sincerely motivated to serve are not looking at it from a perspective of personal gain, but what good we can do.”

The Governor repeatedly drove home the point that if West Virginians are concerned about America’s safety and future,”they will send Sheriff Kim Wolfe to Washington.”

An interesting take on Governor Romney

October 29th, 2006 | No Comments | Posted in 2008 Election, New Media

I found this at RedBlueChristian, and thought it was interesting how the respondant views him as worthy opponent.

MITT ROMNEY FOR PRESIDENT AT GodBlog CONFERENCE
Posted by Andrew Jackson under 2008 Presidential Candidates at 8:58 pm.

At the GodBlog Conference I have been surprised by the push and support verbalized for Mitt Romney by Hugh Hewitt (who is apparently writing a book of Romney) and Dr. John Mark Reynolds the Director of the Torrey Institute at Biola University. At this point, since I believe the global war on terrorism is the primary issue, I will be backing John McCain. However, I will stay open, and see how things unfold.

I can understand how Republicans would support Mitt Romney. He’s a traditional conservative with a solid record of working with his state legislature on a bipartisan basis.

His market-based solution to covering all Massachusetts residents with health insurace is clever, smart and working, and doesn’t entail “welfare”… attributes that should appeal to “compassionate conservatism.”

As a Democrat, he makes me nervous for 2008. :) From a Democratic perspective, I guess I hope Republicans are short-sighted enough to reject him for being a Mormon.

Deborah, from what I am seeing right now, I do not think he will be rejected overall for his Mormon faith. Your nervousness interests me.

Andrew,

He’s an attractive, articulate candidate whose basic conservative philosophy I fundamentally disagree with. And he’s an adult… no childish Karl Rove-style dirty trickster.

He makes me nervous because he’s a respectable, worthy opponent.

More on this site and ads…

October 29th, 2006 | No Comments | Posted in This Site

As you can now tell, I have added several ads to the sidebar of the blog. As stated before I am doing this to help defray costs for this site. I am overwhelmingly grateful to all of you who visit this site day after day and participate. It really makes it a fun place to talk up Romney :) If you have to buy something from Amazon I’d sincerely appreciate it if you would go through one of my links, also I have a few books that might be of interest to you. One of which is for Nancy French’s newly released book. I have added a link for a DVD player/service that can clean up DVD’s (making them family friendly). Additionally, I have placed a paypal donate button on the side bar as well, if you feel compelled to donate I’d sincerely appreciate all the help I can get in keeping this site up and running.

Thanks so much for everything!

Living History: War ended White House bid for Romney, but not Mitt

This one comes out of The Salt Lake Tribune. Take a look!

By Pat Bagley
Article Last Updated:10/29/2006 01:41:20 AM MST

The 1968 presidential primaries featured a breed of elephant that is now all but extinct: the progressive Republican.
There were lots of them. Sen. Mark Hatfield of Oregon, Sen. Charles Percy of New York, New York Gov. Nelson Rockefeller and New York City Mayor John Lindsay.
But one of the early favorites for the GOP nomination was the Mormon governor of Michigan, George Romney, Mitt Romney’s father.
It is surprising to reflect that Romney’s Mormonism wasn’t an issue.
John Kennedy’s candidacy in 1960 had put that religious bugaboo to rest when he assured the country that he wouldn’t be taking orders from the Vatican. People assumed Romney would also be his own man.
And they were right. Romney had enlightened notions on crime, poverty and building a better society. In 1957, he had been brought in to save the fortunes of a sputtering American Motors. He succeeded brilliantly by retiring gas-guzzlers and focusing on economical compacts. AMC’s sales quadrupled in two years.
As governor, he shepherded legislation that instituted Michigan’s first income tax, which went to improving schools and the state infrastructure.
Early in the campaign, Romney was favored to win. His polling was stellar and, in The Making of the President 1968, Theodore White wrote, “Above all, he looked like a President.”
There was a time when a politician could say something stupid and it wouldn’t be repeated ad nauseam. TV changed that.
We’re all aware of the effect of Howard Dean’s “scream” on his candidacy, but Romney’s may be the first to have the life sucked out of it by The Tube.
Romney had been to Vietnam to see the situation firsthand. He was closely shepherded by his military hosts and given a sanitized and redacted version of how things were progressing in-country. He reported back to the public that progress was being made.
When the truth broke that Vietnam was a horrific, wasteful fiasco, Romney realized he had been duped. In a refreshing bit of candor, he said as much, that Lyndon Johnson’s military had “brainwashed” him.
The storm swept Romney’s candidacy down the tube.
Some thought twice about electing a man to the White House who was prone to be fooled. Others had darker thoughts, more along the lines of “The Manchurian Candidate.” In any case, when Nelson Rockefeller announced his candidacy, Romney realized his base of support was slipping and dropped out.
The current governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney, was quoted in a recent Boston Globe article as saying his father was “the real Gov. Romney.” But it’s no secret that the younger Romney has White House dreams.
He will be negotiating some of the same territory his father did - an unpopular and divisive war. And some that his father didn’t - a religiosity in the Republican base that is suspicious of his Mormon beliefs.
James Dobson, friend to President Bush and founder of the politically powerful Focus on the Family, has called Mormonism a “cult.” Just this month he said, “I don’t believe that conservative Christians in large numbers will vote for a Mormon.”
Given time, evangelicals may come to see that a living, breathing Mormon in the White House wouldn’t be the end of the world. But it’s always been true of American presidents that it is their character, and not their creed, which stamps some with greatness.
