March 31st, 2006 Posted in News Articles

It’s nice to see Mr. Romney get more national exposure, and this article on msnbc.com does a fine job indeed.

Fine article. My only concern is with Romney’s solution for the illegal immigration issue. Is he aligned with McCain and Ted Kennedy?

From what I read, I think he’s down the middle on this issue. From his words, he doesn’t support “amnesty” but also doesn’t support “rounding up millions at gunpoint”.

I see his postion as wanting more legal and/or highly skilled immigrants. He would probably expand options for foreigners to study then work (instead of having to leave immediately). Current illegal would have the chance to naturalize if they meet certain criteria (ie non-crimial, working, not on government support). Send back the bad ones and keep the ones that just want to work.

That’s my take on what limited info I could find.

I really enjoyed the article…nice to see Gov. Romney in South Carolina last week, but would someone please tell him to lay off the Mormon jokes down here…If you don’t know the joke C-SPAN has video of Gov. Romney’s speech at a Lexington County fundraiser, and lets just say the audience didn’t really go for the joke…My dad’s side of the family is Mormon and I have been around Mormons my entire life, so I’m comfortable with them and really enjoy most Mormons, but Southerners, especially Southern Baptists don’t have the same feelings toward Mormons as I do; so if Gov. Romney is truly serious about running in 2008 he needs to stay away from the stereotypical jokes of Mormons and win over Southerners by appealing to their sense of God and Country…thanks

I didn’t see the video you’re referring to, but sure, the old jokes probably don’t work as well down south. I’ve heard, though, all of his visits there end with a standing ovation. I’m sure he’s more than aware when something doesn’t go the way he intended.
