Meeting with a member of the Bush administration, religious and community leaders, and his wife, Gov. Mitt Romney announced Tuesday his office is ramping up efforts to capture federal grants for faith-based charities.
The Romney administration has been working to secure funds for faith-based as well as secular charities for about a year and half, but hasn’t captured as much as is possible, Romney said during a Beacon Hill roundtable discussion with group leaders. Forty-four religious groups from across the state received $21 million last year in federal funding from a total of $2 billion granted by Washington, said James Towey, White House director of faith-based initiatives.
